We aren't supposed to use thorium in this deal!!!!!
by Vijay B on Jul 12, 2008 08:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I just heard that we can't do anymore research on thorium, and are not supposed to produce our own uranium for power generation, but we are only allowed to buy it from outside, as a consequence of this deal!

IS THIS TRUE??!!!! Can anyone confirm this?

You heard " heard that we can't do anymore research on thorium, and are not supposed to produce our own uranium for power generation, but we are only allowed to buy it from outside, as a consequence of this deal!"

Correct. You have been a victim of a coordinated floor campaign of the Commies and Knickerwallahs who jointly oppose the deal.

No where in the text of the deal there are such restrictions. So read the text or due to your ignorance you ended up like all illiterate people to be exploited politically.

You are brightly right.Left and BJP are misleading the people.Very sad. You should see the faces of some of politicians who get confused when some one asks them for their opinion on Nuke Deal !!I think most of them have n't an iota of idea what is does to the country. It reminds of those illeterate bums who used to laught at Rajivji when he brough in computers and other restricted gatdgets into the contry with freeflow. The very same situation is prevailing now. Some people are bent upon creating confusing the public. They have failed.Time will tell.Very strongly.

cool down in another 3-4 months as predicted by many analysts and if UPA remains in power by then, BJP will not have a chance to get credit for reducing inflation lol, no wonder they are so desperate to pull down the government now. Once in power our idiotic middle class thinks that they will force Arabs to reduce price of OIL lol.

Political slander of nuclear deal
by SS Kumar on Jul 12, 2008 08:15 AM  Permalink

Political claims are being made about the Indo-US nuclear deal having an anti-Muslim tinge to it, esp by BSP supremo, Mayawati. Nothing could be farther away from truth. During peak summer, most cities, including Delhi, have to grapple with power cuts for over 6-8 hours per day now. If this deal could provide for uninterrupted power as claimed, what is bad about it ? Does this easy availability of uninterrupted power discriminate between Hindus and Muslims ? The whole logic is laughable.

Pathetic
by Guest on Jul 12, 2008 05:49 AM  Permalink

Indian politicians never had any spine so how can they show it. Some violence and they gave away Pakistan,BDesh accepted Tibet as part of China. Some violence and its as if Amarnath temple won't need any land in a land which didn't have any mosque till 15th century. This is all disgusting and shameful. The nuclear deal which they are talking about for last 4 years leaving all other work aside , like no electricity,no water no roads as usual. Just to ask if anybody is ready I can bet India won't hav good basic nessecities 25 years fron now. The nuclear is not even getting passing reference on all US TV channels or newspapers. We don't have friends in International political scenario. Its so pathetic anybody can come and keep cheating Indian masses and try to gain mileage of issues which shouldn't be big issues.

Don't get wrong, BJP didn't get this opportunity
by G S on Jul 12, 2008 05:38 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

BJP did lot of good thing and we can not blame them (unlike Communist). Brought india closer to US, the world's only superpower and to real politics of globe.
But this deal is a steal for UPA as they seiged the opportunity.
BJP willd efinitely come up with some better deals for India when they roar back into power ..which is most likely.
regarding jindabad of Italian (who has settled all it's relatives in lavish houses on 10 janpaths and got quatrocci scot free ), is not good. She is not Indra gandhi. So wake up and see reality. This deal happened due to US necessity of coming close to India and Indian necessity to get out of bullying from China.
See how Pakistan and China are now seeking friendship with india. So friendship with strong always matters.
Forget about commies(CPM) they have no basis and they are winning election by utilizing terror tactis of their cadre only. They supported China in 1962 war and they oppose this deal at behest of China (china itself has signed 123 with USA, because USA is tech leader of world.).
BJP is pragmatic and opposing this deal is a political strategy, but once they are in power they are very much nationalistic. ONly thing that pinches about BJP is that their minority leaders have not been able to convince minorities, and they need to work hard and give more tickets to minorities so that their policies have acceptance from muslims and other religion people. I think they know that and they should better start looking at minorities to

Simple - what else can be expected from a bunch of hooligans and rogue traders. Did you expect anything better from an opportunistic Sindhi called LK Advani ?

If Sonia is an Italian born waitress and cannot be the PM, I wonder how a Pakistani born would be assassin ( yes, this Advani was arrested for trying to kill Jinnah and later sang praises about Jinnah) can become the PM of India. At 75 the loser is trying all sorts of dirty rtricks and personal attacks on individuals and hoping to be the PM.

Go to USA or europe there are many waitresses who are grandmother or mother or widowed. They will keep you slave (they usually look at brown people as lower stds.), and u can say jindabad.

This deal is due to global political reality and alignment and not due to sonia gandhi or even manmohan singh. But you people will not learn.

Check out how sonia's relatives (and from her village ) in Itali are getting red carpet treatment in india. You know quatrocci..CBI let him free ..didn't reach on time in Argentina Coutrs..Can u imagine..courtesy some other Italian sitting at right place . Go and do jindabaad to foreigners to rule you..not to all Indians.

Nuclear or conventional power plants ???
by Reporter on Jul 12, 2008 04:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Nuclear waste is DEADLY WASTE, more serious than CO2 and other emissions.

If a disaster occur in a normal power plant, we can do something to make the locality habitable.

But a nuclear disaster can make that area uninhabitable until the radio active nuclear waste is inactive and it can take may be hundreds of years.

Take the exmple of Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. The city is still mostly uninhabited due to radioactivity.

In order to meet the rising demand for energy, invite private companies to build power plants based on conventional fuels and new renewable sources ....

If well designed power plants in the capacity of reliance refinery in jamnagar comes up in south north east and west of India, we can solve the demand, may be in 5 years time . Anybody there to bet ???

If u go for nuclear plants, it is 100000 % sure that private parties will not be involved, investemnt to be made by the govt. Where is the money for it ??? ( They cant even subsidise oil or fertilizers ) So it will be on loan from world bank or IMF ...... how many years for construction and commissioning ??? Safe storage of nuclear waste generated ( high level and low level wastes) and finally disposal of the same safely for hundreds of years

So which option is better ???

If a desalination plant is also set up with power plants, it can meet the water requirements of millions with a little additional cost ....

That is why you need the support of powerful nuclear powers like the US, Russia, France, UK and Germany...

That is why the deal is important.

That we can, with their help, learn to avoid mistakes like Chernobyl and 3-Mile. Lets think about it that way as well...

Perhaps you still disagree... and that is fine... thanks for bringing up some good points.
