The Project for the New American Century website states the following "fundamental propositions": "that American leadership is good both for America and for the world; and that such leadership requires military strength, diplomatic energy and commitment to moral principle."[2] As the 20th century draws to a close, the United States stands as the world's pre-eminent power. Having led the West to victory in the Cold War, America faces an opportunity and a challenge: Does the United States have the vision to build upon the achievements of past decades? Does the United States have the resolve to shape a new century favorable to American principles and interests?[21]
In response to these questions, the PNAC states its aim to "remind America" of "lessons" learned from American history, drawing the following "four consequences" for America in 1997:
• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future; • we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values; • we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad; [and] • we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_for_the_New_American_Century
RE:RE:What there to support this deal?
by All Right on Jul 12, 2008 12:35 AM Permalink
Who says we sacrificed our nuclear independence.
India has presently 22 reactors. The deal permits India to separate our military and civilian reactors and place the later under an inspection regime of the IAEA. India has accordingly identified 14 reactors to be under the deal. The other 8 reactors, outside the deal, permits India's military nuclear program to continue unfettered.
The capacity utilization of our reactors are falling every year. We have invested huge amount of money in these reactors and not getting full value from this investment. Soon after the deal, we may get uranium and spare parts for these reactors to increase their capacity utilization
We need energy, as simple as that, we can not afford patrol at Rs.55, and we can not afford any more import of the fossil fuel. we must have nuke energy. coming days will see diesel shortage. China is killing us with their Laljibhai supporting them. screw laljibhai, and screw BJP. the deal is must for India. I support Manmohansinghji whole heartedly for the deal. even Shiv Sena supports him for the deal. come the D-Day, he will win hands down.

he Tarapur Atomic Power Station [TAPS] provides electric power, reprocesses spent fuel from Tarapur reactors and immobilizes the associated wastes. The Tarapur Station, a turnkey project set up in India by the General Electric Co. of USA, became operational in 1969. TAPS transformed the small sleepy town of Tarapur into a satellite industrial center of India's financial capital, Mumbai (formerly Bombay). TAPS has two units of 160 MWe each (present capacity) and provided Indian scientists and engineers experience in operating a nuclear power plant in local grid conditions. The US-built Tarapur facility, which played no role in India's 1974 underground explosion, was initially under international safeguards. Following the passage of the 1978 Nuclear Nonproliferation Act (NNPA) the United States terminated nuclear cooperation with India in 1980. The NNPA required countries receiving US nuclear technology or materials to accept full scope safeguards, placing all of their facilities under international inspection. This action included termination of sales of fuel and spare parts for Tarapur. In order to gain India's commitment to maintain safeguards on the Tarapur reactors and spent fuel, the Reagan Administration concluded a tripartite agreement with India and France in 1983 under which France agreed to supply needed fuel and spare parts. globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/india/tarapur.htm

Thanks for the infor Suraj. I find atleast one person who comments keeping some facts in mind.
I can understand Laljibhais are opposing the deal, but why BJP? Advani and BJP are fools, and if they vote against the deal they would loose their entire base. Advani will be responsible for the coming debacle. Advani hatao, BJP bachao. the deal must go through, and BJP should abstain when govt. seeks trust vote.

Yesterday former National security adviser Mr. Brajesh Mishra of NDA govt gave his full support to N-deal during an interview with Karan Thapper .
The only reason BJP is opposing the deal because its a congress Govt not BJP one who signed the deal with US and now taking it forward.
US is not considering India as a Nuclear State. The Deal clearly states India as a non Nuclear state. If we do any test in future, they will impose ban and stop the supply and there is no provision stated for India, and we will be like Iran in few years. Congress doing this for few votes, nothing else.

it's not that simple to do nuclear tests just like testing a piece of software or any other thing. the only reason why india would be forced to test would be when it's provoked by the other countries. in that case, the agreement has loop holes to carry out the tests.

I suppose you have read the 123 Agreement or the IAEA safeguard Agreement text.
The preamble acknowledges that India is an advanced nuclear power. By applying safeguards to only 14 reactors (future reactors are out of the deal unless India wants hem under safeguard), and ignoring our militrary reactors, de facto the US and internationally we are recognized as a nuclear power state. This is unlike Iran, Iraq, N Korea etc where all reactors, existing or future, comes under IAEA inspection regime

its not strange !!! The deal is a civilian nuclear deal.

It has strategic military implications and that is the bone of contention: allowing India to carry out futher nuclear tests.

- Army normally does not speak out on civilian matter in democracies.
Why are people taking these guys' word? They are scientists. What they know about geo-political warfare and long-trem militray srategy? No Army guy has spoken if you have noticed.

mr he he what do you understand about the depth of this deal.it is like this - they will give you bed and a girl but you will be monitered under their cameras. you will have enemies and villans surrounding your house , and you will have to dial usa if any one knocked at your door. no cap on future tests please.we live with fragile border issues.
To all the people blaming crude price hike for jump in inflation .Inflation has gone up from 4percent to 9 percent before the fuel hike. even during last two week its up by half percent. main reason for jump of inflation is speculative jump in food prices even after our great finance minister announced record food grains collection for this year. IT easy to blame everything for crude prices when in india we are paying for only $80 per barrel.inflation in rest of the world is because of high crude prices where the government are passing every dollar rise in oil prices to people
