One of the important reason india growth rate for 2008 has been reduced is due to the inflation which in turn is due to raise in price of crude oil by 100% from the same time last year. We need cheap energy in order to maintain growth rate, India already has the power deflicit of 30000MW and producing power by burning the fossil fuel is no more feasible due to the rising fuel costs and dwindling natural resources. The renualble energy sources like solar is not feasible as the power produced by it is not cheap. India is in process of installing 10000 MW of hydroelectricity and 20000 MW of thermal power in this five year plan but by the end of this five year plan the requirement of power would have gone much more. The only cheap and alternate solution is to produce electricity thorugh nuclear power. India can capability to build nuclear power stations of capacity 200MW, but the deal with US will provide access to much more advanced technology by which we can install a nuclear plant capable of producing upto 2000MW which uses cheap nutron moderators like sea water. This deal also provides access to uranium from international markets. India's three state thorium enrichment process is not efficient as of now and it requires uranium as seed which India don't have.
The only problem the left find in Dr. MMS was he is pursing on a project which wont fetch political mileage to the left and unlike people like arjun singh he thinks about long term.

Alas, MMS cannot convince his party, which was once led by the Mahatma, that they have to think big for a great country like ours. He should have worked to change the hearts and minds of his partymen rather than stake the survival of the government on the single issue of the nuclear deal. The government will scrape through somehow, but that will involve a lot of give and take of the kind that we can ill-afford, lot of compromises that will exact a price from the country by encourging unfettered selfishness instead of the unlimited selflessness that was encouraged by Mahatma Gandhi among the congressmen. He was never concerned about his own survival as are MMS, Arjun, Mukherji sonia and rahul. and the whole lot. We have a group of midgets ruling us, they would do better in a circus.

Which of the recent PMs had the presence in all parts of India? The PMs since Mrs Indira Gandhi have been chosen for being the least controversial, not for their ability to appeal to people from all the parts of the country. The least offensive people are chosen and put on pedestal so that the rest of the politicians can get on with feathering their nests without any inconvenient questions being asked. We have come to a stage where ministers taking advantage of their positions of power asking "What is wrong in taking the advantage of my position?" Minister's wife being appointed as lawyer to a government body is defended by her husband minister expressing ignorance that there was anything wrong in the appointment. This shows what sort of advantage comes from having debilitated PMs and congresswalas have become past masters at this immoral game. look at the PMSwe have had, PV Narasimha Rao, Sitaram Kesari, et al. How do they measure up against Nehru, Shastri and Mrs IG? Congress party needs not a face lift, nor a rejuvination, it needs a change of heart and mind.

Vishal,I agree with you.Dr.MMS is no doubt a very honest person and a renowned ecconomist but his image is shattered by the crooked politicians.As he is an accademician,he understands less of political nastiness.His image has been used.He,being a head of the Cabinet has to face the music.Everybody will hold him for the misdeeds of his supporters in the Govt.Being a reformer we expected him to act firmly against all oposition instead he succumbed to pressure particularly by the LF for saving the Govt.Where the LF is disliked by more than 90% of people.

Congress is a minority appeasement party. Not punishing the islamic terrorists. This is more dangerous to the country than the benifits from nuclear deal. Nuclear deal may be signed even afterwards. So The congress must go first.
BJP and RSS great leader's dream to become the PM of India will not come true because he is not showing the statemanship. he is a cheap politicians. I do not know when he will become a matured politician.Advaniji should learn at least something from our great leader Atalji. Yediyurappa is far better than Advaniji for the PM post.

it a been a very sorry affair reading all the articles below.DR MMS has been one of the honest PM ever in the INDIAN history having not a single back mark on his carrer. A when reformer and a very good admistrater.When some time we have seen him weak but that is only because on coalition parties.BUT NOW HE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO GO WITH THE DEAL EVEN AT THE COST OF THE GOVERMENT. in yhe pervious 3.5 years he had done everthing for the betternment of the country n its people.all the oppsition parties were targeting him claming him to be a weak PM but he continue to do his a job in a good way. INFLIATION has been aglobal issue(china being all time high 22 )with all the developing countries. You are begging vote for a spineless PM who wasted and put country's fortune on stake for 4 yrs. He kneeled to Sonia, to commies and now to USA. He is neither honest nor capable to rule. He screwed economy which was already growing above 8 % and with below 4% inflation about 4 yrs ago. He made our border porous, hundreds of people died in the heart of India and not a single terrorist got arrested. Arrested terrorists enjoy special treatment and are saved from the harsh punishment. For what you ask votes for MMS? He is showing fake residence proof for getting elected in Rajyasabha so dont talk about honesty. If he was so concerned about national interest, he could have shut leftist from the day one of their coalition govt. He did not sacrifice the govt on the hundreds of national issues where left twisted the arms of govt and only N-deal is the largest national issue for his govt, why so? So far his govt has failed to put forward the economical benefits to our country will get from the deal, if any. Govt has not called even a special session of loksabha on the deal while USA has discussed the deal in their senate to death.

I am totally agree with Vishalraj. For me Dr MMS is the best PM we have ever had, he is well quialified for the post. As far as economy fall and inflation is concerned, we should not forget that Dr. MMS itself is a big economist and already had the post of Finance minister of India and Dr Chidambaram the same. So I am quite sure that the economy and the country is in the safe hands.

I fully agree with you vishal. We need people who can bring in reforms. Just see how India was before MMS brought in reforms. There used to be more No Vacancy sign borads than bill boards. Remember One one used to have Televisions sets at home. Cars were beyond imaginations. Getting a telephone connection used to be a life time achievement. Many more..... Now lot of things have changed. People who talk bad about the reforms he brought should also remember this.
Today we are becoming a super power and we will become No.1 But only with more reforms, with a vision for the country.
Vishal I beleive MMS is honest and he loves the country. he wants his country men to prosper and HE DONT PLAY POLITICS FOR THE SAKE FOR POLITICS.

Who stopped COngress from bringing reforms? IT was due to Gandhi family who maintained conservative policies so that no one can dominate them in this country. To ensure that everyone is under their control they just nurtured such a policy. When Gandhi family took a break then the orphaned congressis wanted funds and they invited all industrialist including multinationals to invest in the country so that they can make some hay.Though true architect was PVN & not the "g huzoor" pupet.
