Keep off from horse trading
by Gopal on Jul 19, 2008 10:48 PM  Permalink

All these kala-bulee is for the sake of just 10% max of total energy at a total cost of 3 lakh crores of rupees scheduled to be spent in 20 years crippling the financial system of India. The waste disposal and safety against radiation hazard is the biggest problem -technically and financially. Twenty years from now Uranium will be a rare material!! The congress is in for any kind of back-door deal to gain support from anybody in the parliament.

I hope there are some congress men still there who can influence the leadership to change the attitude.
It is unpardonable to divide society vertically for the sake of a N-deal -'sign-off' of our sovereignty and freedom. All the good works done by congress will be made opaque by this single act. Let the present congress leaders emulate the old generations of congress leaders who lead freedom movement. At the moment I can only pray to God to give them sense and allow them to think without prejudice and biases.

Why this 'undue haste'?

Let a VIDURA be born in congress to guide them.

Prestige of an individual is nothing when we talk of NATIONAL INTEREST.

Avoid number game. Uphold values in public life.

Keep away from HORSE TRADING!!

n-deal....
by Rakesh Sharma on Jul 18, 2008 01:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

FIRST OF ALL THE RELEVANT QUESTION IS, IS NUCLEAR ENERGY (AT THE COST OF NATIONAL SECURITY!) THE ONLY SOLUTION TO OUR ENERGY WOES?

WHAT HAS CONGRESS BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST FIFTY YEARS ON ENERGY FRONT? WHY THIS SUDDEN SPREAD OF CANARD THAT N-DEAL IS THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR OUR ENERGY WOES?

N-ENERGY WHICH IS ABOUT 2.5% MAY INCREASE TO ABOUT 5% (AS REPORTED BY US SCIENTISTS AND CAN BE VERIFIED AT THEIR WEBSITES) EVEN AFTER THIS MUCH PUBLICISED N-DEAL.

DO THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY KNOW WHAT FORM OF ENERGY USA PROPOSES TO HAVE FOR ITS FUTURE? ..NON CONVENTIONAL ENERGY LIKE SOLAR AND WIND.

WHICH ARE THE COUNTRIES THAT HAVE MAXIMUM POTENTIAL IN SOLAR AND WIND? ...COUNTRIES IN AFRICAN AND INDIAN SUBCONTINENTS..

OF COURSE NUCLEAR ENEREGY IS GOOD FOR INDIA. BUT NOT WHEN THE N-DEAL IS DRAFTED IN ITS PRESENT FORM WHICH IS A THREAT TO OUR SECURITY.

THE CONGRESS HAVING FAILED IN ADMINISTRATION, HAVING FAILED TO STOP FARMERS SUICIDES, HAVING FAILED TO CONTROL THE PRICES AND HAVING FAILED TO CHECK THE RISE OF BJP, IS BANKING ON JUST ONE THING NOW. IT WANTS TO JUST DEFAME THE BJP AND ITS OPPOSERS AS ANTI-NATIONAL. BUT THE TRUTH THAT THE BJP HAS LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THIS DEAL. EVEN IF THE CONGRESS ENTERS THE N-DEAL, THE BJP WILL GET ITS SHARE OF CREDIT. BUT THE CONCERN REGARDING THE COUNTRY'S SECURITY REMAIN. CONGRESS HAS FAILED TO RESPOND AND CLARIFY THE DOUBTS OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY. THEY HAVE TURNED THIS DEAL INTO A POLITICAL WEAPON....

Left parties - preparing for elections
by kanti on Jul 13, 2008 06:02 PM  Permalink

Rightly said Left parties have with drawn support to the Central government only for the sake of votes,as Nuclear deal is not a big issue when compared to price hike of daily commodities.

Nuclear plants or conventional power plants ???
by Reporter on Jul 12, 2008 03:22 PM  Permalink

Nuclear waste is DEADLY WASTE, more serious than CO2 and other emissions.

If a disaster occur in a normal power plant, we can do something to make the locality habitable.

But a nuclear disaster can make that area uninhabitable until the radio active nuclear waste is inactive and it can take may be hundreds of years.

Take the exmple of Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. The city is still mostly uninhabited due to radioactivity.

In order to meet the rising demand for energy, invite private companies to build power plants based on conventional fuels and new renewable sources ....

If well designed power plants in the capacity of reliance refinery in jamnagar comes up in south north east and west of India, we can solve the demand, may be in 5 years time . Anybody there to bet ???

If u go for nuclear plants, it is 100000 % sure that private parties will not be involved, investemnt to be made by the govt. Where is the money for it ??? ( They cant even subsidise oil or fertilizers ) So it will be on loan from world bank or IMF ...... how many years for construction and commissioning ??? Safe storage of nuclear waste generated ( high level and low level wastes) and finally disposal of the same safely for hundreds of years

So which option is better ???

If a desalination plant is also set up with power plants, it can meet the water requirements of millions with a little additional cost ....

'Deal or no deal, the Left would have withdrawn'
by ravishankar singh on Jul 12, 2008 02:59 PM  Permalink

my friends,
it is true that to functionalise thorium based reacters uranium is needed but in very small quantity and that much is avialable in india or india will be able to get it.
what i feel that US is eyeing over our vast thorium resevoirs as it has done in Arab over petrolium by providing technical know how US has become masters of the Arabs fuel reservoirs . similarly US is eying over our vast reserves of thorium by traping indian government through its Hyde Act and indian sovereignty is going to hide befor Hyde!
why should we not wait for some time and engage our scientists to exclarate thorium based reacters rather falling into trap of US as it has done in Arab countries for fuel?

'Deal or no deal, the Left would have withdrawn'
by ravishankar singh on Jul 12, 2008 02:58 PM  Permalink

dear friends,
i have not been able to understand the projection of 2030 or 2020 because india's energy need is more than 100 times larger than what is being projected through n-deal i.e. 2052 mw.
the uranium reserves are limited, we can't expect our needs to be fullfilled through uranium energy plants even 10%.
even if the n-deal gets operationalised, the first energy we will get from it not earlier than 2020. than why this is so much hue and cry?
moreover indian scientists are working to build reacter to get energy through thorium, and thorium reserves are so ample in india that it is sufficient for world need for more than 1000 years.
china recently has developed a small prototype of reacter based on thorium.
when our scientists are working on such thorium based reactres why we should not provide them more and more adequate fascilities because through thorium to get energy it will also take as much same time as it is projected through uranim.
once thorium based reactres get operationalise fully it will solve the world energy crisis.
than why we are running to US for uranium based deal on US terms which is not going to fullfill our 2% energy need by 2030 as being projected?
