IAEA safeguards agreement.
by Prabhakar kommaravolu on Jul 10, 2008 10:38 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Kindly read the draft agreement in detail. There is nothing there that is harmful to India's context. In fact there are many clauses in language which provide for exit routes to India. No doubt there is furore from Non-Proliferation Lobby in USA about these clauses that explicitly benefit India.

These left donkeys and BJP asses it seems do not understand plain english. Prakash Karat and his brothern donkeys and useless politicians are one whole bunch of pure refined useless buggers who are nothing but REFINED CHINESE STOOGES.

to all those who oppose approaching IAEA for safeguards (for which DONKEY PRAKASH KARAT WITHDREW SUPPORT), READ THE DRAFT AGREEMENT and i sincerely hope you understand very plain simple english there. MIND YOU THERE IS NOTHING IN THERE AGAINST INDIA. IT IS INDIA SPECIFIC AND INDIA BENEFICIAL.

Don't be so sure and jump the gun Prabhakar. THough you may be righht in condemning the leftist asses, I am not so sure about the BJP asses. In fact the Congress seems to be more full of self serving, boot licking asses. Even though there is a section in the US opposed to the vagueness of some clauses which they fear India might use to iyts advantage, please don't forget that the US with all its might is ten times more likely to impose its interpretation on India. This is the truth that the current administration knows and hence their overeagerness for the deal. Though the deal by and large seems to be OK, there is no harm in getting even a better one through hard bargaining like the BJP is trying to do.

I support BJP and hence I support the Nuclear Deal because BJP has initiated the Deal. I do not support BJP in not supporting the Deal because I will have to support the Deal if BJP comes back in power and supports the Deal. So better I support the Deal now itself and continue with my stand. Long Live BJP..

Legal Issues and Interpretation Disputes
by Kris iyer on Jul 10, 2008 10:28 AM  Permalink

This Rediff. report by Aziz confirms my doubts.
I have been saying that this Deal is "good in principle" but may NOT be good "in detail". The DEVIL lies in the details.
At least two or three major areas of "contention" have been left rather vague by both sides. The matter of interrupted or inadequate fuel supplies, what freedom of action India has in such eventualities? "Testing" to "upgrade" nuclear weapons India already has - estimated to be between 200 and 300. "Testing" underground may become necessary as India wishes to employ indigenous technologies. Further the use of Thorium as a fuel may also require testing as a source of "weapon" fuel - although it would be several years before India can reach that stage with thorium. But then this "Deal" is supposed to be in perpetuity.

I'm not an admirer of Congress and its pseudo-prime ministership of MMS and his ideologies. But his actions for the nuclear agreement (a milestone for India to step forward with the developed nations) was really good. I hope Congress wins this v-o-confidence motion and gets this agreement done. Left and BJP were very opportunistic in this regard. Atleast BJP's job was to do that being an opposition party! But Left's intentions and their recent past in WB is not going to help them in forthcoming elections.

Nuclear Deal (US-India) issue should be taken into Supreme Court urgently
by USamanta on Jul 10, 2008 09:30 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Nuclear Deal issue should be taken into Supreme Court urgently.
Because Congress Party in the name of National Security keeps all secret issues hidden and never
took the approval in the Parliament House.
Since the matter (N-deal) is not passed in the parliament, it can not be a law.
Therefore somebody should file a petition in Supreme Court in urgently to challenge the legality of the deal
which strictly hampering the national interest and sovereignty of the nation, Congress does not respect the mandate of people's opinion and also does not respect the Parliament.
Let Congress Party give the details of the N-deal agreement to the Supreme court and legality of the deal in
terms of national security and sovereignty be scrutinized in Supreme Court.
Let somebody file the petition in the Supreme Court.

Bit of a shame; since in one country in the two party agreement, it was debated in the parliament thread bare and all their interests were safeguarded with ammendmends, while the second party (country) in the agreement the MPs are not even made known of the contents, let alone a debate or vote.

Who decides man... The sell-off of the country happned in case of Kashmir, Siachen, Chinese peace treaty etc. This is a treaty where people like u dont understand basic argument
1. We are going for nuclear fuel - tech is secondary
2. All these countries will impose sanctions anyways if we conduct the test
3. Weapons development is always underground. IAEA or NSG can't stop India in any way.

4.Why people say its a sell-off when u will only get something in return than sending anything from ur country. Worst come to the worst say all critical developemtal scientific labs as for military purpose( in which case they dont go under IAEA observation)
5. Use existing Uranium for military and imported for civilian use!

Article relating to N-Deal by Rediff reporter in Washington
by Krishnan Venkataraman on Jul 10, 2008 09:28 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This article is very poorly written. It contains grammar and constuction mistakes. Is there no editor in Rediff?

See a sample mistake...

"As expected, the non-proliferation lobby in the United States -- "which has been vehemently opposed to the deal" and has sought to torpedo it, lobbying feverishly on Capitol Hill with Congressman Howard Berman, California Democrat, and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee as its key ally and the one who introduced killer amendments during the House debate and vote on the enabling legislation -- lost no time in poking holes in the India-IAEA safeguards agreement."

Either you say "which has venhemently opposed the deal" or which has been vehemently opposing the deal"

I am just highliting one only. There are more and the style of writing is also substandard.

I am sorry to be critical of this article. The idea is to remind rediff of it is high standard. It is frustrating to read such English.
