Communists do not understand the psyche of Indian people. As long as India is there, China wll only be treated as Invador, even we assume that there were some wrong doings on our part. People of India are not ready for an open friendship with China and this is a psycholgical problem even though it is better to have genuine friendship with China.

Same is the case with Pakistan. They are advocating Gas Pipe Line through Pakistan. India's relations with Pakistan has not matured to that level of trust and not only that Pakistan as a state is in a vulnerable condition. The terrorists can at any time gain upper hand.

The third country is Iran. Western world is bent upon isolating Iran and they are sure to succeed also because of the present political climate in the world. Iran itself is not governed by a progressive government

Our communist friends are advocating better relations with these countries which we can not do in the present political context.

Communists should try to understand the common people more instead concentrating only on salaried Government Employees. Their track record in Kerala is dismal. They have virtually made Kerala's economy into a post office economy. No activity inside the state but consumerism based on remittance from outside.

Cost of new nuclear plants coming up in Europe

--

The Government has vastly underestimated the cost of building a new generation of nuclear power plants, according to the head of the world's largest power company.

Wulf Bernotat, chairman and chief executive of E.ON, the German energy giant that owns Powergen, has told The Times that the cost per plant could be as high as €6 billion (£4.8 billion) - nearly double the Government's latest £2.8 billion estimate.

His figures indicate that the cost of replacing Britain's ten nuclear power stations could reach £48 billion, excluding the cost of decommissioning ageing reactors or dealing with nuclear waste. “We are talking easily about €5 billion to €6 billion [each],” Dr Bernotat said.

BTW,

One euro is close to 70 rupees.

So one power plant would cost mind boggling 42,000 crores.

So in essence, India can have one nuclear plant, bankrupt the country and all Indians will be begging with katora in hand.

And the other thing to remember is a kg of tomatos which costs Rs20 in India costs 3.00(Rs250) in UK, a satelite made by ISRO costs less than 1/5th than what it costs in European countries, so don't just go by the cost they incur in their countries, the Indian market has it's own price and the cost of buiding a nuclear plan will be accordingly less expensive than what it costs in there.

tomatoes/satelites you are talking about are made/produced in the country. Imagine the cost of tomatoes if they were to be imported from UK.

LN,

Tomato is different. In fact anything mechanical like computers, cars, cameras, machnery is cheaper in the west than India because they produce it and India imports them. So will be the case with nuclear plants. Labor cost is the only thing which is cheap in India and that would make only a small fraction of total cost.
Your argument does not hold any water.

Like all religion, Christianity is also mumbo jumbo of fear, hate, loathing, unproven facts, susperstition, blind beliefs.

You will find that most learned people are more spiritual than religious. Religion is to control the serfs.

Well said sameer. All these westerners come and preach others about how great their religion is.That is why in west christianity is waning. People are fed up with abonoxious preists who use people. But unfortunately they are turning to Islam which is more dangerous.

What is the intention here?. To tarnish Christ?. Why waste time?. People tried it more than 2000 years in vain. But still he rules as the Savior of the world. No one else can take that place. And when God restores all things every knee will bow before him and he will rule with an iron scepture. Fear him lest he be angry.

With due regard to Christ, I think even he did not claim himself as god. He calimed he is the son of the god. Lord Krishna has proclaimed that he is the god. Even if you don't agree that Krishna is the lord, you cannot call Jesus as the supreme as he himself did not so proclaim.

So Left will fight both SP and Congress next elections only to.......

support them both again from the outside when it suddenly faces the prospect of BJP making a Govt. Isn't it so simple. Aren't we Indians fools that we let UPA come to power with outside Left support even after Congress gave outside support to Third Front-Left twice to both Devegowda and Gujral and twice pulled them down forcing on us 3 elections between 1995-1998?

We Indians are the greates fools to keep electing such corrupt bastiches and assortment of criminals and jokers to power again and again. I can understand their false brand of secularism [divide and rule] policy fooling gullible reserved Muslims again and again with their bogey of Hindu majority, but how is it that even us Hindus get fooled again and again?

GA, There is a difference... Bush is not dangerous to Amar Singh becos he can't kick him by sitting in Washington, whereas Advani can Kick him out at the butt whenever situation warrants. So Amar has to be afraid of the dangerous Advani. ha ha ha !!!

you are cent percent correct. Remedy 1. Patronise only Hindu business except where it is not otherwise available
Remedy 2. Do not offer any form of cash in the temples which are controlled by the government and ultimately spent on P-Secular activities such as Haj subsidy/ sachar report / reservation to minorities etc.

Nculear Power plant cost and the cost of electricty
by Eldho Kuruvilla on Jul 06, 2008 05:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Regarding bare plant costs, some recent figures apparently for overnight capital cost (or Engineering, Procurement and Construction - EPC - cost) quoted from reputable sources but not necessarily comparable are:

EdF Flamanville EPR: EUR 3.3 billion/$4.8 billion, so EUR 2000/kW or $2900/kW
Bruce Power Alberta 2x1100 MWe ACR, $6.2 billion, so $2800/kW
CGNPC Hongyanhe 4x1080 CPR-1000 $6.6 billion, so $1530/kW
AEO Novovronezh 6&7 2136 MWe net for $5 billion, so $2340/kW
KHNP Shin Kori 3&4 1350 MWe APR-1400 for $5 billion, so $1850/kW

FPL Turkey Point 2 x 1100 MWe AP1000 $2444 to $3582/kW

NEK Belene 2x1000 MWe AES-92 EUR 3.9 billion (no first core), so EUR 1950 or $3050/kW
UK composite projection $2400/kW
NRG South Texas 2 x 1350 MWe ABWR $8 billion, so $2900/kW

On the assumption that overall costs to the utility are twice the overnight capital cost of the actual plants, then the figures quoted above give:
SCEG Summer 2 x 1100 MWe AP1000 $2200/kW

There are several possible sources of variation which preclude confident comparison of overnight/EPC capital costs - eg whether initial core load of fuel is included. Much more obvious is whether the price is for the nuclear island alone (Nuclear Steam Supply System) or the whole plant including turbines and generators - all the above figures include these. Further differences relate to site works such as cooling towers as well as land and permitting - usually they are all owner's costs. Financing costs are addi

In June 2008, Moody's estimated the cost of installing new nuclear capacity in the US to potentially exceed $7,000/kWe.
The range is 2900 to 7000 MW.
---

In has to remember that there are many parts of the plant which are manufactured only by one or two manufactures which can choke any plant. We are not even talking about security of the plant, disposal of waste etc.
