Fallout of present fiasco

Even a four year old child will say that nuclear deal is good for India as a country. Mr. Jaswant Singh and Mr. Yeshwant Sinha think that it is not good for India because it does not allow them to conduct nuclear tests. They know that they can not get such a deal for 100 years. Their grand children even will not get such a deal. The rule is that if you can not accomplish a task do not become a stumbling block in sombody's efforts. It was expected from left the opposition but not from BJP. Although I do not like Congress but more annoyed at BJP

don't be silly. there is no such thing as one time deal. u.s. govt and congress establishment have concluded it is in their best interest to have a nuke deal with india. hyde act messed the deal up and india is thus not obligated to this deal amended by hyde act. hyde act did it despite u.s. govt's best efforts to stop the hyde act, and also indian govt's objections. in other words, the hyde act knoocked the agreement down. right upon signing the hyde act into a law the helpless pres bush even said to the effect that it did not bind india against nuke testing. but bush is bush : he thinks the u.s. president is above congress if not the law. however, hyde act will prevent usa from holding its end of the bargain that both parties worked out. thus, this deal is no deal at all.

quite frankly, it is not gandhi-party's cup of tea to navigate out of this mess. if india wants to get its nuke energy in order, it has no choice but to elect a bjp govt. let's all be frank: it was bjp that started the nuke deal negotiations with usa in the first place. if india had given the bjp govt a 2nd term, which it richly deserved, india would alreay be producing nuke energy by now with the americna help. nincompoop congressi govt could not stop hyde act, the bjp govt would have lobbied effectively against hyde act.

What is the content of the actual deal ? Can you explain it.

Presently there are five declared countries who can have nuclear weapons. These are five permanent security council members. The general rule for all non nuclear countries is that for them to have nuclear material and equipment for peaceful purposes they have to sign nuclear non poliferation treaty. There is another treaty which is called comprehensive test ban treaty which does not allow a country to test nuclear weaponns. India does not want to sign both treaties. The main point of Nuclear Deal is it allows India to aquire nuclear material and equipment even though it does not want to sign the two treties. Bush administration has made exception for India for India's good record in many areas. The deal separates India's nuclear military and civil program. There will not be inspections on India's military program. The civilian program for which India will import nuclear material and equipment will be inspected and verified. There is a Hyde Act in which there are many items that India has to follow for its civilian nuclear program. India can ignore foreign policy related items because countries differ in mutual issues. U.S. signed nuclear deal with China with many conditions and China has not adhered to it.

What is wrong with this?
by sakshi on Jul 05, 2008 05:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hating parties and persons without proper reasoning has become a fashion for all. When UPA is heading the government with outside support of CPM/CPI/RSP etc. it is very clear that they should not take decisions without full support of their supports. It is a major decision - not only a question of more power only.

Their outside supports have clearly told congress in clear terms that they will oppose it and vote against it. Congress should have not gone to SP when they opposed them and exchanged ' all possible words' in the past. To gain power, both are playing game, blaming BJP or communists is not right.

Opinions should come in order.

When leftists and BJP are opposing something that I believe is in national interest, I have full right to blame them. Here, both commies and BJP are playing divisive vote politics. Commies do not want the nuclear deal done and BJP wants to take advantage of the rift to bring down the govt.

At this time it is natural for UPA to seek other sources of support in national interest.

CPI and BJP are acting anti national.

BJP found support from Hindus by causing riots ... In 1984 when Hindus voted for congress and gave 400 plus seats to congress, BJP learned a valuable lesson. They then began to woo Hindus on the Ram Mandir issue and Hindus fell for it. Then, came Gujarat riots ... again a repeat of 1984 .... Hindus votes Modi back to power and even today consider him to be a great leader.

Other than these things BJP has had no real agenda and no plan to run the country. They failed in kargil. They were soft on terrorism and now they are complainign about inflation which is global.

Abdul Kalam - The most respected person in india Supports Nuke deal.

Abdul Kalam has a great vision for india and he knows what india wants and what is not good for india.

First time after indian independance Congress is doing great job to the country.

Mahatma Ghandhi if alive will sallute Manmohan singh. Manmohan singh and Abdul Kalam will be in indian histor for ever.

This deal exposed many anti-patriotic politicians from Communists, BJP and UNPA.

Congress did a wrong thing by not electing Abdul Kalaam as president. By signing this deal congress has got blessings of Abdul Kalaam.
