Hinduism is still steeped in superstition .
by V Singh on Jul 07, 2008 12:25 AM  Permalink

That to me is the fundamental problem with this religion.

we also need to work for progress.
by manoj kumar on Jul 06, 2008 12:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

People of Udissa have so much time and energy to role the rath. but no time to build good road, infrastructure so that pvt company can go there and create jobs for poor. Education can improve if these people make beautiful school and inspire kids. Hospital could be build with so much energy and passion to remove the suffering and pain of human being.
Is these things not true dharma ? but i guess people r only interested in having party and fun with in temple, thats all they want. God bless india ! bharat bhagya vidhaata.

well this can be achived... but
1)bringing religion and politics never good
2) people of india don't give a damn to politics, though its not God but politics, that defines the way of life
3) we are ruled by psudeo-secular bigots, who are interested in money, and lust... so they can sell indian womens in arabic sex slavery, making india top ranking country for human trafficing... but can't serve the peoples
4) our nationalist parties had turned socialist.... they hardly speak now the language of nation....
5) what matters is 20% muslims votebank, and not the 80% population..
6) war is comming, with epicenter in india... so why invest in infrastructure, which has to fall anyways....
7) we are upside down screwed up for being india

Got it...

Muslim goodwill.
by Purav Shah on Jul 05, 2008 07:53 PM  Permalink

Upto now mostly we witnessed the criticism by muslims of hindu tradition especially in Gujarat. Hindus doing likewise too. However, during the present Rath Yatra we saw much goodwill toward each other and muslim community adjusted Mosque prayers to accomodate Rathyatra to avoid congestion.

That was a commendable gesture. It is time to bridge the gap, as soon as we can and as much as we can. Whatever religion we follow, the roots are more or less the same.

WHEN YOU CONDEMN WRONGS, YOU APPRECIATE RIGHTs TOO.

You brat, Rathyatra is not a local festival. It has a long tradition and known all over India. People from different parts of India come to attend it. Just don't write anything without proper knowledge.

Mukhtar...please grow up and stop speaking in a toung which is regional, biased and infuriate others. Does rediff invited you to come and read this news? If not why then you use this platform to create hatred among peoples. Keep in mind, Hindu, Muslim and all region folowers visit puri at this time just to attend the festival. Lalbeg- the muslim saint was a great devotee of Jaggannath and History is the witness how many songs he has written relating to the Lord.... please educate youe self and then speak.... please

reason for this rath yatra? why rath yatra celebrated every year?
by purna kumar on Jul 04, 2008 08:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

the main cause for this rath yatra celebration is to give darshan to one of the greatest devotee of Lord Jagannath. That devotee is born low caste like shudra. so when he wanted to worship Lord Jagannath the temple pujaris didnot allow him. So the devotee lamented a lot. And requested Lord Jagannath in a prayerful mood for his darshan. As Lord Jagannath the ALL merciful supreme creator bound by this devotee's love and affection came out of the temple to give him darshan. By this Lord Jagannath proved that HE is present only for HIS devotees. JAI JAGANNATH!!!!!!!!!! This is all what I was told If any mistakes please correct me!!

Visit the Jagannath Temple at Puri. You will be proved wrong.

Lord Jagannath (Sri Krishna) with his sister & brother visit his Aunt's family. In Mahabharat story, you will find that Pandavas are Krishna's Aunt's children.

Wonderful festival but
by deepak on Jul 04, 2008 08:07 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its a matter of regret and shame how prejudice remains in force in Hindu temples, although there are no Hindu supreme authority like Vatican. Many devotees are not allowed Jagannath darshan for not being Hindus. This should stop ! The word Hindu should not mean only Indians now...Hinduism is a global religion and adopting Hindu ways and beliefs have become increasingly common. Indeed there is more activity on Hindu religion in Hawaii than in many parts of India. No one opposes a temple to acquire property in the west like they do in Kashmir.

Not so sure about this point. People from other religion do things not allowed in hindu religion like eating beef etc, so may be it is valid not to allow everyone inside to preserve the sanctity of the temple. Anyway, one of the the main motivations of rath yatra is to to give darshan to all devotees who can't visit the temple...

Lot of Brahmin kids eat beef these days in US. When they come to India they dont declare it before entering the temple. It is stupid and old fashioned not to allow people. Religion should change with time. Hinduism has always changed with time. During vedic times Hindus were eating beef (from bulls). It is only after Buddha came Hindus refrained from eating beef.

Barring people from temples has nothing to do with Hindu religion. It was vested interests that created these stupid rules.

Western devotees of ISKCON may be strict vegetarians and yet not allowed. Most Hindus today may not be vegetarians at all. There is absolutely no reason to bar anyone from entering a temple. Shows this beautiful Hindu religion in bad light.

WHAT YOU SAY IS RIGHT, QUITE BROADMINDED UNTILL YOU SAY "ODIYA PEOPLE ". THAT WAS TO NARROWMINDED.WE HAVE SOME HINDU TEMPLES IN GUJARAT WHERE EVERYBODY GOES, EVEN NON-HINDUS.

FRANKLY LET US KEEPASIDE PROVINCIALISM ETC. LET US WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT THE WRONG TRADITIONS WITHIN US. WE MUST DISCUSS OPENLY EVEN IF MUSLIMS JUMP IN TO SARCASTICALLY INSULT US. THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO MAKE ANY AMENDS IN THEIR HEGEMONICAL TRADITIONS, BUT WE HAVE AND LET US DO IT.

ONE THING WE CAN DO IS THE VIP TREATMENT AT SOME TEMPLES. I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THE GREAT TEMPLE OF TIRUPATI IS FOLLWING THIS. IN GODS EYE,EVERYBODY IS SAME. EVEN THE HEAD-SWAMI SPENDS A DAY WITH GOD IN A POOR VILLAGE WITH DALITS ETC, THEN WHY CANT THEY DO AWAY WITH SUCH A SYSTEM.

JUST DISREGARD WHO WANT TO HAPPILY DENOUNCE US FOR NARROW REASONS. WE KEEP FAIR DICUSSIONS ALIVE BCOZ. ALL NEGATIVES CONSIDERED INDIA IS STILL A MUCH BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN THAN SO MANY SUNRROUNDING COUNTRIES.

JUST LET US REQUES AND IF POSSIBLE COMPELL SOME OF OUR GURUS WHO WANT TO STICK TO WRONG TRADITIONS.

U r right mate...... I am a Odiya, but i hate to hear any thing which is squeezed with a hint of regionalism in it.....Name changes, Caste changes and language changes in course of time... Go back to History, go back 1000 or 5000 or 10000 years... were we speaking Odiya or Punjabi or Hindi that time too???? Things are evolving along with the time, and in time also it will evolved so some thing else which is more better. So dont bind your self along with a region or a caste or language.....

Dear Mr. Deepak I read your message above. this is true. You have mentioned very valid point. And this happened long back itself. This famous rath yatra in only for those people who are not allowed inside a temple. LORD JAGANNATH IS very much merciful. He can do anything for his Devotees, no matter what caste, color , race, etc., he belongs to..

Why Mr.Samuel's message is not reported for abuse? Do they tolerate such psycho-nonsense hurled at their religions or their religious figures... This guy must be another of those bhikaris who are thrown a few dollars for working on the poor to convert them to their self-centric, narrow minded religion.

Big surprise from where you got these informations. You have written big story i can write about any regilion. Hindus regilion change alot after it's existence. This regilion give us freedom, which others not. We oppose anything which is not good for society. Hindu temples tell about sex also. Without that your existence also not possible. You have written about Vatsyana, all world is earning money from his books. Writing about these words i feels your not kind to other what God Jesus expecting from his follower. God Jesus was great, but you people are not following single word. Anyway better be good human, not chirstan or hindu.......don't talk or write without fact about any regilion. It's matter of fath this way you heart the sentiments of that person. That is the biggest sin.
