BJP should make it clear

that it will not honour this deal if it comes to power the next time since this deal is inked by a PM who not elected and also because this deal does not have people's mandate. Time to take it head-on.

Lots of Forum participants tend to mix up and talk extreme things either for or against the nuclear deal.

We must clearly understand that 123 agreement is for civilian use of nuclear technologies and resources.

And USA simply wants India to ratify that.

This is the reason we are clearly separating the reactor for Civilian uses and military uses for the International audience.

Our civilian reactors would be for International scrutiny. But not the reactors for military use.

We have to have clear "audit process" for the resources bought under 123 agreement.

We do not have such obligation for our reactors for military use and resources obtained from outside the 123 agreement.

The agreement text has been vetted by even BJP politicians and have praised in private.

The communists do not have any objections and all their 9 points have been addressed adequately by Indian negotiators.

But the actual story is different.

BJP needs to oppose. Because this has been secured for India by Sonia Gandhi and her team.

The communists need to oppose. Because they still can not do business with Amerians, even though China is a great beneficiary of American Wealth in today's time.

Who cares for the nation ?

The party is bigger than the Nation.

And some lunatics having great time and having a party seeing the Government of the day is not able to honour its International treaty.

Just think about it.

BJP is opposing not because Sonia is interested in the deal. BJP is opposing because it is not in our nation's interest. Sonia should not be making this decision, that is another issue too.

This deal is anyway better than signing CTBT that BJP was planning..

Mulayam favors nuclear deal.
by kamal baluja on Jul 04, 2008 02:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

By stating that now they have all the details they believe the n.deal is in the interest nation politician like Mulayam Singh DO ADMIT that their earlier held opinin was uninformed and their objection (to the deal) baseless. In this they display their own immaturity and intellectual illiteracy. Why couldn't they get opinion before from learned sources like Prof Kalam as they have done now rather than just relying on what the Left has to tell them. We get the politicians we deserve. 10 months wasted and this would be critical in getting the deal through.
And what is wrong in 'trucking' with the USA? They are the strongest nation in the world and can help in offsetting the growing threat of China whose menace is increasing by the day.

as if kalam wud explain and mulayam wud undestand...Nuclear deal is not about milking buffaloes, one can hardly expect yadav and gang to understand a single word of it.

The only thing which might have changed their opinion is that now since mayawati has walked out of UPA bcoz of rahul baba gandhi attacking her dalit votebase in UP, Mulayam is cozying up with centre to get off the CBI hook and pressurise PM to open cases against maya in taj -corridor etc.

Behenji tried to throw spanner by calling deal as anti-muslim...but mulayam made a smarter move by going to kalaam, ex-prez, scientist and above all a MUSLIM so tht he may yell out 'look muslim guy is supporting it, how can it be anti-muslim' and keep his M-for-Mulayam vote bank secure..

Some intelligent leaders we have...who needs standup comedy on TV

by Vijay on Jul 04, 2008 02:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Wonderful... roping in Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam was a wise move on part of Mulayam and Amar Singh. One can trust Kalam's counsel who has not held a grudge against the Congress party for not considering him for a second term. He has gone by 'what's best for the country'. Wish we had at least 300 such people as Kalam in the Lok Sabha.

Shiv Sena is supporting Nuclear Deal then why BJP not supporting N-Deal.

I am in a big setback after knowing that BJP is not supporting N-Deal.
Is BJP is doing this only because of opposition party.
Now i feel guilt to support BJP blindly from last 20 years.

Amit, I appreciate your stand. Most of us are not willing to accept a wrong we may have done. I too was inclined to BJP for a part in my life. However, just like you, I too sensed one day that all they cared was to attain power. I am not saying Congress in good.. they are equally bad but sadly, BJP is no saint party. Making people fight in the name of religion is most unfortunate. I traveled to some parts with an NGO in 2007 and met the women and kids who had been orphaned during some of the violence these people had initiated. When you see the situation of those families that have lost their sole-bread earner, your heart weeps for them. May nobody on Earth ever see that day. Just because that lady was from a different religion, does not mean that she has to now beg to feed her family.

Which NGOs were they? ORganized by foreign and Indian intellectual media? Riots did hurt that community... However it was required or else there was no way to control their mob culture... Bitter medicine... But need of the hour... Thats why Gujarat is so peaceful for the past decade or so... No one should take us for granted... They should know they would get back in the same coin.. The country has suffered enough from the day Muslim League was started pre-independence...

i think we should give the benefit of doubt to bjp.. they are in the same boat as the communists because of public stance against the deal.. but then they are the best party to give us a stable government and operationalise the deal in an effective manner. they are better of a bad lot of politicians..

BJP is not supporting Nuclear Deal for 2 reasons:
1) It is not clear whether the deal permits us to conduct nuclear tests or not.
2) US did not grant VISA to Narendra Modi.

BJP is not against the deal.. They only want an amendment so that our choice of doing nuclear tests for our security is not absolutely prevented... I guess they have a point... However I also feel they are not being clear on their stand... Basically offering a clear explanation so that the US does not suspect our allegiance in case BJP returns to power in the next elections...

N deal
by Ramanath Babu on Jul 04, 2008 02:25 PM  Permalink

If Mulayam is to be believed, congress governemnt did not share all information regarding N-deal with members of parliament belonging to opposition. Yet they want to ink this deal and asked for support from the opposition.

If only they had taken the main opposition party into confidence, the present scenario could have avoided.

End of veto power : Poor REDs

REDs enjoyed undeserved veto for last four years. Now after another muslim dependent party decided to back the Government over the deal, Left has been trapped in its own 'make believe castle'. The decision to withdraw support is being delayed on daily basis. Poor REDs.
