Job profile I do not know, But, of both Joint Commisioner and deputy Commissioner of traffic in Mumbai is out of favour officers bidding their time to go back on some lucrative posting. Of late no officer has tried sincerely to understand Mumbai traffic andthen come with solutions.Constables are doing good job but they are a harrassed lot. political bosses want Mumbai to be Singapore/shanghai, but never made any sincere effort to improve and discipline traffic. let us begin with restoring BEST ques, keeping zebra crossing free and stop jay walking,at least ,to begin with, at places where underground or overhead bridges have been provided for road crossing. Let us do some simple acts and we may see a good result in next three to six months, like tightening of seat belts. I have stryed from question of job profile, but would like officers with zeal be sent to traffic department and not some one who wants to bid for his time.

I agree with you totally and we all should contribute by sincere and disciplined driving, stick to the traffic rules since the police and govt is not expected to do anything.
That Mumbai's roads are a mess is an understatement.
It's a no-brainer that half the mess is on account of the poliTICKS, bureauTWATS and bureaucRATS abounding and freewheeling in the city's sewers and septic tanks.
They get their pay, and payola, for doing bug-all for the city, except chewing pan and spitting tope-ka-golas on the streets, white-washed walls or vandalising whoever comes in their way.
But, worse, the country's richest city has been overrun by a local tapori-gutteri culture -- that was brought-in in 1977 -- which has now seeped-in deep into every personal pore, leaving outsiders gaping and gawking on the roads in disbelief.
On June 26th and 27th 2008, instead of being in Wellington near Ooty in Tamil Nadu, a pathetic Prez made her presence felt in Mumbai and held us for ransom on the roads for hours as some silly protocol dictates that the roads must be clear for 30 minutes when her V VIP convoy passes by.
Every appointment of mine was horrendously delayed for this doddering democratic maharani. I nearly lost my job ... but what the duck does she care!?!
Now because of the Patil-Patil kai-rey kasa-kai thingy with the D Y Patils she promises us a repeat run of the horrible traffic jams, on July 7th, not only in Mumbai but also in Navi Mumbai.

This is what you get when you allow one dim-witted housewife to call the shots and she handpicks an even dimmer-witted housewife, unfit even to be a municipal councillor, for a high constitutional office and her spineless chamchas put their thumb impressions on the docs.

gravy - it seems you are really irritated to the limit. cool down. i was also held up on the road during her last visit - but could not do much - rather than just wait like an idiot on the signal for the time as mentioned by you. can't do much - just have to bear it - no way out.
teh combination is just superb : poliTICKS, bureauTWATS and bureaucRATS. thumbs up.
note : all bombayites please make note and caution on the 7th july for the delay that rather than missing your appointments and loosing your temper for the delay.
Many a times, it is found that horns are not used when it should have been. Same can be said about trains also. Extensive horns by trains can definately reduce deaths on tracks.
Are so many car a must ? Is it affordable ? Not just economicallt, but also enviorimentally, ethically, infrastructurely ? Health hazards to travellers and others. Just press for the public transport to improve.
India takes pride in world class buildings, flyovers, sea links etc,but the manholes covers are 3rd grade.Andheri kurla rd. is testimony with almost all covers are either broken or may break at any time stage. Even those repaired recently are breaking down(Near Leela Petrol Pump) Why cant we have Even and Uniform Manhole covers which can withstand the heavy traffic on this road and that will ease traffic jams seen almost throughout the year.
I am staying in Powai. To reach home in the evening after the office hours from BKC via eastern express highway it takes almost 2 Hours to reach Powai. The main traffic jam is before the santacruz flyover which is yet to be completed. The traffic jam sometimes extends upto Kherwadi junction near Bandra. The fly over work is yet to be completed. The work is going on very slow. I wonder why can't the contractor employ more workers on the site and complete it soon. Even now sometimes we could see only very few workers working on the site even though only half part of it is completed. Is there nobody to check the progress of the work?. And it is better not to describe the plight of people travelling on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road in front of IIT. It take 45 minutes to cover just 1.5 KM stretch infront of IIT Powai in the evening. There are innumerable traffic jam spots in Mumbai. If you are lucky sometimes you may reach a place in time. Otherwise God also will not be able to tell when you will reach a destination in Mumbai considering the condition of traffic nowadays.

Going to Office from Bhandup to Malad West , I was struck up in Traffic jam at Bhandup. From there I started walking till Gandhi Nagar Flyover which is approx 4 km frm thr. The Cops at the signal are doing nothing and adding to the wooes. No comments on Mumbai bad traffic ....... its pathetic,............ worst.......................................................
Its really horrible. Its pathetic, fuel wastage cant be stopped.... Traffic management should be privatized immediately. Every day its the same story..today it was worst.
It was a horrible day on LBS road. It took 4hrs to reach from Mulund to Marol Naka bcoz of Traffic Jam. I am travelling on this road for the last 15 years but this was the worse traffic Jam I have seen.
