Too many cars
by divya on Apr 13, 2010 06:58 PM  Permalink

Well my openion to this congestion is dat.. there r more no of cars on the roads den da available space...
in foreign countries there are strict ristrictions as to when and on which days you can use ur cars...for example today in mumbai every house has a minimum of one car and the middle income group atleast have 2 cars per house... and every day more and more cars are being added... so i feel that da govt should come up with a rule which states that only ceratin cars should be allowed on roads on particular days... and parkin being a major problem in mumbai... the cars should be sold to only those who can provide a parkin for the car.. they should nt be allowed to park cars on the roads...
and if at all someone wants his or her car to be driven everyday.. then he has to pay more amount of road taxes... coz he will be using the roads more often then others...
implementing such rules should solve our congestion problems to a certain extend
and yes ofcourse the technology used in road construction should be improved and da speed should also increase....
and they should def scrap the ideas of walk over bridges.. its crap...

Just change the system - all should be fine everywhere
by Praveen Radhakrishnan on Jul 09, 2008 07:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I lived in Mumbai for 6 years, though now living outside India and I know it is impossible for many contractors to survive without filling the potholes everywhere as the contractors who undertake the project likes to work every year and they make sure that exactly or even before the potholes are back. They create job for them by doing poor quality roads. Best solution will be if a pothole comes back within 3 years, then that particular contractor should lose any contract from the Government. People should feel the value of the job and that is something not to be taken for granted. if each and everyone feels the fear of losing the job, I know how hard people will work to maintain their reputation and the job of course. lesson to be learnt. Who is going to teach this? i would like to but how?

Yeah, Try walking from andheri to Churchgate for your 8 o clock morning work and back after your work at 9 at night. Let's see if health really becomes a factor then.

Threat is a great Motivator
by Ryan on Jul 07, 2008 11:27 AM  Permalink

we should probably take up arms and issue ultimatums to the BMC/MMRDA that local corporators will be shot dead if the area is not maintained properly. I think only nuisance value is respected in this country, not civilised appeal!

Travel through crowded local trains
by samwise on Jul 06, 2008 10:11 PM  Permalink

One should travel through crowded local trains than face the traffic. At least trains ensure that you reach in time.
Till the metro arrives this is the only alternative.

Its not the potholes but the encroachment which slows the traffic
by Anubhav Lal on Jul 06, 2008 08:50 PM  Permalink

You can see hawkers and auto-rickshaws parked occupying almost half of the road. I can bet that if people stop buying from these illegal hawkers we dont need police or BMC to remove them. They occupy roads because we buy from them. Just sacrifice a little convinience and get rewarded by better traffic
