Education in India is ,of late, reduced to a big business

The views of the writer,an NRI are not totally correct and do not reflect true position. Education in india,of late, has been reduced to business with spree licensing by the govt on the plea of their inability to cope with the increasing demand partially, which in turn,is due to growing awareness of its importance even in poor & villagers and partially due to increase in population.Though often govt schools are complained of lack of infrastructural facilities and competent faculty, the position in regard to the second & third rate private schools too which sprang up like mushroom growth driven just by their zeal to make money is not different. The buildings of such schools are in a pathetic state and the standard of the teachers employed abysmally low-a majority of them are not qualified and work for few hundres. It is the mediocre mind set of the middle class & lower middle class who clamour & canvass that education means only a private convent irrespective of its back ground or standard that makes these schools thrive well day to day.As long as people suffer from this false prestige, private schools are sure to exploit with no imparting of worthwhile education. It is not that all public schools are bad & lack in standards In fact, though not in %, there are many students coming out from public schools who emerge more meritorious than those of the private schools. It is the spark & motivation in the child that is more important than the spacious modern class rooms.(Contd in next wri

Sorry to say but you are not aware of ground realities. Tecaher absenteism in govt schools is rampant and tecahers are not motivated to impart best education to students. Private schools face competiton and thus have to provide quality education. Voucher system will create this competition and it is very likely that because of vouhers even govt school standard might improve as there is competion to attract voucher money between private and govt schools instead of current situation where there is virtual monopoly of govt schools who are clearly failing to deliver the goods

I am sorry that I could not respond to you earlier Mahajan!! I happenned to see my post after posting just today.
I am alive to the ground realities.I was only telling that not all the public schools are bad nor all the private schools good. Many of the teachers in private schools are poorly paid and lack motivation to improve their teaching techniques & talent. The competition between the private schools is mainly amidst the top rated only-certainly not between the mediocre & low standard schools.

With appropriate ombudsman and committes to regulate these isntititutes. The committee should have adequate repersentation from parents , eminent educationists and oversee the quality standards in the private institiutes.
Also these institutes should charge poor less or no money and get more money from the rich.
This way India will become an educational super power.
