Cessation of Nuclear Supplies is only a Bogeyi
by All Right on Jul 02, 2008 11:00 AM  Permalink

The operating word is in the event of nuclear testing. Even here the agreement provides an exception - the right to test if

China or Pakistan tests.

No one in the nuclear community believes any more for the need to physically test. They now test through computer

simulation using past test data.

This is the reason why Vajpayee government shrewdly went for a serious of explosions - to generate such a data base

The nuclear deal is meant to cater to our short term needs. In the medium to long term, we depend upon fast breeder

depending on thorium. This opinion is confirmed by Kalam

The China deal had clauses such as Human Rights violation in Tibet etc. We know how China is flouting human rights not only

in Tibet but all over their country. Yet, the US president certifies all is well with them

Knickerwallahs, Read 1-2-3 Agreement Before Commenting
by All Right on Jul 02, 2008 10:59 AM  Permalink

A. If the Agreement works in detriment to India we can Terminate under Article 14

1. Either Party shall have the right to terminate this Agreement prior to its expiration on one year's written notice to the

other Party. A Party giving notice of termination shall provide the reasons for seeking such termination. The Agreement shall
terminate one year from the date of the written notice, unless the notice has been withdrawn by the providing Party in writing prior to the date of termination.

B. If the Hyde Act is seriously implemented by the US, we can pass our own laws to neutralize the Hyde Act- Article 2

1. The Parties shall cooperate in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement. Each Party shall implement this Agreement in accordance with its respective applicable treaties, national laws, regulations, and license requirements concerning the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purpose.

It is to remembered that the deal is only nuclear civilian cooperation.

The US will provide us technological transfers and uranium supplies to reactors for civilian purpose - for this they seek guarantees that enriched uranium will not be diverted for militrary purpose. What we do with our own or other friendly countries (like Russia) technology or uranium is outside the purview of the Deal

Nuclear Stand-off - PM meeting with President assumes significance
by jamsheed abumohammed on Jul 02, 2008 08:19 AM  Permalink

In the midst of an unresolved standoff with the Left parties on the Indo-US nuclear deal, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday and discussed the current situation with her in a meeting which lasted for about 50 minutes. Not much political significance is attached to this meeting. It is termed as a routine and courtesy call before leaving for Japan where he will attend G8 Summit. All indications are that PM has prepared himself for a showdown with the Communists over the nuclear stand-off and worst to come in a few days. This has brought foes together.SP has lambasted Communists over the deal and moved closer to Congress. This was on the cards inview of the common enemy Mayawathi on prowl in UP.BJP may distance itself with her but the political polarisation is seen as a significant move by the managers of Congress party for the next elections. This would certainly thwart wave against UPA. The real insight into the whole gamet of political one upmanship would reveal a different picture. It would be unwise for the Congress to wait till May to conduct elections as its standing is bound to worsen. Its mainly because, the international situation suggest no reprieve for Crude oil price and consequent effect on India economy. The situation for the present is tailor made for UPA to call for a mid term elections. It may not win but would make a dent into the BJP votes. Lets wait and watch the moves of the political pundits for the next course of action.

LEFT HAS GOT THE BOOT NOW !!!!! :)
by Raj on Jul 02, 2008 05:43 AM  Permalink

LEFTs should be shown the way left and told to stay there, and not try to meddle the middle and right path that India is taking, they are unneccessary hurdles, the obsolete, self traitor ideology which even China has thrown to dust bin, si followed by our taritors Commun(al)ist party of LEFT. Indians have a new vision for their future and this obsolete and dark age ideeology (in fact suicidology for the sake of comrades in China and pakistan) is not liked by Indians. We see light at the end of the tunnel, not gloomy, poverty filled future that LEFT is wanting whole of India to replicate what they have given to W.Bengal

Days are numbered
by Harinder Singh Mehbub on Jul 02, 2008 04:44 AM  Permalink

Election is due in another 10 months and Congress is still clinging to power. That is all they know. The PM has neither the guts nor the stomach to face the left. If he had any fortitude, he would approve 123 no matter what is the consequence. He is a coward and a power hungry person.

Lefts should withdraw support today (July 1)
by USamanta on Jul 02, 2008 02:17 AM  Permalink

If lefts dare to withdraw support to UPA they should do it today (july 1) instead of making any more drama.
Although I dislike communists, but I support their opposition to puppet PM, MMSingh's (and Congreess)
stands to deal N-deal.
Had their been PVN Rao or Vajpayee the situation would have been different.
Most likely they would have picked up any left leader (jo jaada baat marta hai) to represent IAEA.
That's the lack of vision of puppet PM, MMSingh.

Not anti Musslim, Just Pro-India
by All Right on Jul 02, 2008 01:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

lause 103-b-4 states "Secure India’s full and active participation in United States efforts to dissuade, isolate, and, if necessary, Sanction and contain Iran for its efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction, including a nuclear weapons capability and the capability to enrich uranium or reprocess nuclear fuel, and
the means to deliver weapons of mass destruction."

The clause is pro-India. We cannot have another nuclear neighbor. China & Pakistan is bad enough.

This clause is the reason why the Left and BSP term the agreement as anti-Muslim. The question is why the BJP joins them in opposing the deal - for a few Muslim votes?
