But, BJP has also become a party of 'permanent leaders' sitting as a 'high command' in Delhi, retaining power until hospitalization due to old age! They nominate 'yes-sayer' state leaders, ignoring incompetance, criminality. Unless BJP really re-establishes itself as a party with a difference, it would not make a difference. Every state should be allowed to evolve its 'Modi', without interference from Delhi. All such Modi's can meet in Delhi to decide central leadership, limited to 5 yr terms and only advisory role after that. Families prospering on political connections should be weeded out from influencing policies.

Correct observation Jai Hind. Most of these jerks including Jyoti Basu thru Amartya Sen are Bangladeshi in origin. Their bravado and progressiveness disappeared when Muslim Leaguers chased these guys out. It didnt matter they were refugees in Sealdah station platform or shipped away to Dandakaranya and Andaman islands. These guys didnt have the guts to be communists in E Pakistan but chose the soft belly of Hindu majority areas to preach their imported theories. According to some analysts, there have been instances where the Muslims and Buddhists have been taken as single groups such as in Karnataka and declared backward. The Tamil Nadu GO No.1564 of July 30, 1985 has used terms such as Syeds and Sheikhs for declaring the Muslims backward. But these and other similar terms do not denote a caste, which is essentially categorised on the basis of one's traditional occupation and a set of rituals. The government has also reactivated Backward Classes Commission, which is going into its second round of hearing on Muslims soon. The sources believe that the data collected by the chief minister's men would be incorporated in the commission's report in support of declaring the Muslims backwards.

NEW DELHI: In yet another sop, the Cabinet on Wednesday approved a central scheme to provide 25 lakh pre-metric scholarships to students from minority communities in state-run and private institutions. It also decided to set up a special institution to preserve classical Tamil culture in Chennai.
The Cabinet also approved the merger of 50% of Dearness Allowance with basic pay to employees of central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) following the 1997 Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) pattern. This will benefit employees following IDA pattern of pay scales in CPSEs, which are in a position to absorb the additional expenditure without budgetary support, information and broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi said after the meeting on Wednesday.
The pre-metric scholarship scheme for students from minority communities has been formulated by the ministry of minority affairs, finance minister P Chidambaram said after the meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA). He said Rs 1,868.50 crore during the 11th Five-Year Plan had been approved for the scheme. Of this, the Centre will put in 75% while the states are expected to invest 25%. However, for Union Territories, the entire burden would be borne by the Centre, he said.
Chidambaram said 30% of the scholarships would be earmarked for girl students of each minority community in states and UTs and would be transferable to boy students only if eligible girl students were not available. He said the selection p
