Cooperation
by Fried Yakov on Jan 31, 2008 11:56 PM  Permalink

Yes , we need cooperation with USA, but it should be transfer of technology and not only sale of equipment, and that too at reasonable cost. With USA the lone superpower in space sciences, we do not have much choice, and spending time to 'reinvent the wheel' would better be used to advance farther. We should be able to upgrade the technologies we receive and adjust them for our own use, if necessary take the help of retired scientists and engineers from premier organisations worldwide. Our booming economy should be able to take care of their hefty salaries if it is technologically worth it.

When did the USA helped us
by Dipak Bose on Jan 31, 2008 05:51 PM  Permalink

USA refused to give Nehru technology for even a steel plant. They never helped us for the last 60 years but armed both Pakistan and China( since 1972) against us.
The Soviet Union took two Indians ( do you know their names?) to the space in 1982; also it gave India everything for the Space Research--- India has never developed anything.
Russia now wants participation of India in the International Space Station, but USA will not allow it.
This is the American cooperations!!
Yes, some American companies will be interested to supply some rubbish equipments at a very high cost to cheat India. Remember ENRON, who ran away from India after stealing Rs.6300 Crores from the Industrial Development Bank of India. USA is trying to destroy Indian's nuclear weapons programme in exchange for some 30 years old nuclear plants.
This is the nature of American cooperation.
In 1966 USA gave us some wheat because of Bihar famine and in exchange India had to stop the Planning for three years, devalue the Rupee and allow imports from USA for goods what we do not need. Then in 1971 it was about to attack India at the height of the Indo-Pak war, but could not do it because of the warning from the Soviets.
Thus, learn who is friend and who is enemy.
This Nair must have taken bribes from American companies or want to send his children to USA for MBA studies or wants to get a job in USA after his retirement.

Indians can go ahead - if a chance is given.
by A.D.Edward Raj on Jan 31, 2008 12:10 PM  Permalink

It is interesting to note such a requirement at this stage.

It was when Professor Sathish Dhawan and Professor UR Rao, lead this organisation, they lead it with pride, and challenged all the technical difficulties with dedication. During those times, an attender with a knowledge can go and share his thoughts with the chairman. Remember great inventors like Sir CV Raman, Ramanujan, Edison and Michael Faraday were low grade employees!.

During those times - when the ISRO was under the great leaders, it took the challenges head on and succeeded.

But, these days, the system is changed. Even a scientist can not go and meet the chairman directly if has any idea.. Why chairman, even approaching a section head is very difficult!

I worked in this organisation like a bull (and worked even three continuous days without a second sleep), but could not get my ideas through. Instead I was victimised, and dumped. I wrote a petition to our former president - Dr.Kalam for help - but no use.

Thus, I resigned my scientist job at ISRO, and right now, working hard to establish a telescopic observatory in the high mountains of Nilgiris. I hope to see the first light soon.

I only hope, ISRO will soon catch up the old style to encourage its own employees to reach the space rather than depending on imported technologies.

With warm regards,
A.D.Edward Raj,

Former Scientist, ISRO,
Founder, Indian Science Trust.

No Mr. Nair!
by TheOneAndOnly on Jan 31, 2008 11:11 AM  Permalink

No! There should NOT be any cooperation with the USA or any Western Power.

This is just a preparation for another attempt to sell off Indian Space Programme to USA like Indo-US Nuclear Deal.

Mind It, the Space programme provides the Delivery Vehicles for our Nuclear & Other Weapons.

Seems Our People in the Top are Sold Out to the Bankrupt Western Countries.

Whatever is to be done Must be done by India All Alone, Mr.Nair!
If you feel incapable, just STEP DOWN.

Really, India is having too many Talented Jobless fellows. You would be helping them.

Idiot, USA had space programme 200-300 yrs ago? US had slavery then. Yes US is ahead of us / we are behind them due to various reasons, just don't exaggerate the difference. And what's your point? Should we just sit and cry because we lag behind. Shut up, get up and start running, not to catch up with them , but for our own sake.

So? What has article got to do with AID? If no country should give /receive aid world wouldn't what it is. This isn't about jingoism nor about inferiority complex. A willing partnership. Anyway, don't want to waste my time with a CONFIRMED idiot. If you reply to this, it would be self defeating. Since I am not going to come back again.

Bullshit, Now i am 100% sure that you are totally out of your mind, hearing here and there don%u2019t assume that u got the highest knowledge, if u flip through the facts India even give out the AIDs to other countries, when u said about US give out the AID to India or other countries, how do you know US has money did they come to your home borrow form you??? If u check out the facts of the world bank US is one of highest borrower, they are taking money from one hand giving with other hand no big deal, and all the AID doesn%u2019t come free there are many if and buts.

Coming to Advance technology and all if u refer to history In India we have proof of doing plastic surgery about few hundred years ago when the world did even dreamed of this. In today%u2019s age even we have many of advanced indigenous technological advancements, take the recent nuclear test, you so call advanced country (US) could not detect it at all until we have announced it out. Your so called advanced country could not even deal with Y2k problem with out the help of Indians, even today India and India have their invisible hand in almost all innovative and advanced technology inventions. Indian are in leading the global top business houses today.

There was a story about these kind of Guys.

A Beggar near a Five Star Hotel got a Lottery thru a Rs.1 Ticket. He was asked, 'What will you do with this money?'
He Replied, 'I will Build a Five Star Hotel Myself, And Sit in the Counter And Then Beg.'
(So that, No one will drive him away.)

When Useless fellows are allowed to Sit in such High positions thru Rajya Sabha, This is what will happen.

Shouldn't ISRO restructure itself??
by on Jan 31, 2008 09:03 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yes, there is an urgent need for a greater cooperation between US and India on space.
But look at NASA and how it is structured with lion's share of work done by giant corporations, Universities and other Govt. institutions.
While in India, we have so much of it controlled by upper echelons that universities and other Engg. colleges hardly participate in any collaborative projects.
India is still run with a caste based and political system where people differentiate each other on caste and region. There is no incentive for honest and sincere work!
ISRO must be restructured and a better system must prevail.
Sincerely,
Madhu Rayala

The most important step for ISRO and India is to have a joint project with US on Satellite communications and direct internet relay to rural areas. But our bureaucracy and corrupt governments are least bothered about any education opportunities for our 650million rural citizens!
It is simply impossible to change India without providing scienctific education through Internet!
Thanks,
Madhu Rayala

The Country is doing tooo much for the said 650 million.

The Fact is the said category of people increased 6 times in the last 50 years. So We need to multiply the Social Indicators of that category with 6.

And Most of the Investments by the Govt on this category is going JUST to feed them. After All, They are the vote factory for our politicians.

'One Child Or NO Govt Support of Any kind' policy will positively change the country just within 5 years.

Do you mean Reservations and Recommendations are killing Indian Institutions ?

I know there is a hell lot of craziness to downplay the Talent of OCs by Non-OCs - to prove their Non-existent Merit.

In the process, A lot of Innovative Research gets either plagiarised or sabotaged.
