We need a real ddemocracy also.. On one had we have congress where being born in Gandhi family automatically gives you right to be PM. On the other hand we have BJP whoch contests election but is controlled by an organisation which is not accountable to people of India. None of the 2 mainstream parties are following the spirit of democracy itself...secularism remains a mirage.
This is the kind of pseudo secular politics that discredits genuine secularism. India is a free country with freedom of speech protected by the constitution. Groups are free to protest against authors or their books but the government has a constitutional duty to protect free speech. And it should do so consistently regardless of whether the offended group is Muslim or Hindu or Christian or whatever.
Congress is useless and as dangerous to secularism as the communists or the Hindutva brigade.
Our beloved PM and his government has done a GREAT job from preventing the French from honouring Taslima! In fact they should not stop here, they should instead recommend the same honour to Mr. M.F.Hussain for is excellent pieces of ART on 'Saraswati' and also confer Mr. Afsal a Bharat Ratna for his 'dedicated' service to this nation!

Also they should pass a bill in parliament to cease the voting rights of Hindus in this country ......... otherwise why these people are not afraid of majority vote bank, only appeasement of minorities????
War of Independence has to be triggered again if we want to save our country from going the way of totalitarian trinity - communism, islamism and christianism.

Yet another classical example of India's double standard. On one hand we claim to be the worlds largest democracy and on the other we do not allow freedom of speech. the Congress is simply doing so to please the muslim community and of course they are preparing for Islamic funds in their kitty for use in the next elections. Shame on the Indian Govt that they should treat Taslima like this ; a lady who is telling the truth of the attrocities of the Hindus in Bangladesh and the muslims have the cheek to talk about Gujarat!! Muslims are the most intolerant people in the world and they will always insult all other religions and this is being truthfully conveyed by these people. India should ideally give Bharat Ratna award to Taslima, grant her Indian citizenship and provide her total security. Shame on Indian Govt for being so stupid.

that is going in the wrong direction. lets respect free speech and ask for both Taslima & MF Hussain the right of expression. Those whose feelings are offended are welcome to protest peacefully or to go to jail if they turn violent. That is the way the constitution meant our laws to work - it is sad that Congress' pseduo secular policies have discredited secularism so badly
Due to the intrinsic cultural diversity, each State in India cannot 'productively' govern more than 2 million citizens. India should 'decentralize' 602 districts into States or Cantons as in Switzerland.

Dirty minded people.. Taslima had not contributed anything to our nation's growth or economy or to its values and culture..Except some seeds of hatred.. She is not even a good writer.. She became famous only for shaking the sentiments of a community. That anyone can do very easily.. you dont have to be talented for doing that.. I think rediff has became another nasty media for spreading the poisons of hatred
