Shameful Fire Brigade
by dashrath on Jan 16, 2008 05:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The performance of Kolkata Fire Brigade has been disgraceful and shameful. They are now making up excuses like crowded shops, stock of inflammable materials etc.
Their job is to control the fire immediately, even if it is due to above facts.
The whole department stinks and there should be a total review and overhaul. The good-for-nothing top echeleon enjoying fat pay checks and facilities need to be sacked and replaced with honest and committed guys who can perform and not crib about obvious things.

Fire brigade job is a thankless job, they are never praised, if possible ever try to go near 15-20 m of a building in fire I bet you will not stand there more than a minute, and these brave men ( fire fighters) fought their hearts out for 90 hours in that crammed up burning hell craeted by wicked Marwaris - these people should be praised, and rather be ashamed of the people who are useless and only see others faults rather than their own!

learning the hard way...
by reena singh on Jan 16, 2008 05:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

people learn the hard way....they never thought about the possibility of such a disaster when working in such a conjested market. the businessmen there surely had lot of money to improve the condition. but they never did anything rather than increasing their profit margin. they also constructed illegally such high floors (why should only govt. demoslish it) why cant people have a sense of their own. we only blame the govt for everything (easy way) but people themselves are also responsible to a great extent. Well they were operating illegally and not caring enough about safety and have now learnt a lesson.....human always learn the hard way! i hope in future such things are avoided. may god give strength to the families who have lost their livelihood.

Marwaris are the parasites of Kolkata - and they are the ones fully responsible for this disaster in Kolkata - nobody should show sympathy on these dirty creatures!

Dear Birju,

Just as the US Health department depends on the Indian Doctors working in US, Kolkata, or rather WB economy depends on the Marwari Community. If ever there is any semblance of economy in Kolkata, it is thanks to them. Hence, kindly stop accusing them. BTW, I am NOT a Marwari but have lived in Kolkata long enough to understand the local economy.

Kolkata Bada bazaar Fire
by Anand YNI on Jan 16, 2008 04:41 PM  Permalink

Finally, they have doused the fire in the largest wholesale market of India. Readers may remember the fire that ravaged the new market a few years ago. In its place, "New New" market was built, that was ill planned and disastrous. Another fire there will pave way for a "New New New" market.

In order to avoid such happenings at Bad Bazaar the authorities hould ensure that the whole area is bared first, surveyed properly, land restored to the rightful owners, proper plan is drawn up, all are asked to adhere to the plan, ensure that they adhere to the sanctioned plan and finally construst a "New New New" Market that confirms to international safety standards.
Since we do not trust the governmental agencies help of trustworthy private agencies should be taken at every step.

Fire at Nandram Market
by Ghanshyam Sureka on Jan 16, 2008 04:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In my opinion it is the West Bengal Government who is to be blamed solely. The construction of the Nandram Market totally unauthorized. I have seen personally when work was stoped by the Muncipal Corporation the work was done in night after 7 pm. Whole market above 4th floor was constructed bit by bit in night and no one came from CMC to check and market became reality. In Delhi all unauthorized construction was demolished why not in Kolcatta? Is not the fault of the CMC and Government. Had Government would have taken corrective majors this fire could have been avoided and a huge loss of Nation could have been saved.

Sureka bhai, how many times have you approached the CMC with the complaint? If illegal structures are pulled down, hae of burrabazaar and other places would be gone and not to mention give fodder to opposition. BTW in Delhi only selective places have been pulled down. Many illegal structures thrive and are also about to be legalized.

Who needs to bomb Calcutta

With so many inflamable things dumped in such volumes in such ways, the terrorists donot even need bombs. Just a small flame from a match box will do the trick.

Fire at Nandram Market
by BHASKAR CHOUMAL on Jan 16, 2008 04:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am wondering, the media thinks Nandram market as barabazar. while it is a part of barabazar. In all news channel, websites etc. only the picture of Nandram market is being shown , no one is showing the fire around this market and no one is telling what actually happened in the locality around , what is the situation around. People who are not presently in kolkata is seeing only nandram market. Poor media coverage. Everyone is saying shops around 2500 , while actual loss is more than 4000 shops ,no one is featuring pagiya patti, tarpaulin bazar around nandram market. Media is concentrating only on this building.

When are we (Govt. of India) going to learn lessons? Since it started in the morning, that too on a week-end, people are safe. Thank god, it did not happen on a crowded weeke-end.

Rightly said. Perhaps one does not realize it but even in the past the majority of fires in the burrabazar have broken out during weekends.
Food for thought, i guess !!

You are a looser....dont understand the logic of what are you blabbering.

What does a person who is suppoedly doing hawala has to do a fire of this magnitude. Do you at all realise the loss to common man who were directly or indirectly related to those shops for their livelihood if you leave out the shopkeepers who have lost lakhs and crores in that fire.

By This one can understand how far good is our fire fighters and such fire is enough rather than any terror attacks. Where we could not bring down soon, what would have happened if there was another fire break. ATLEAST now every state should immdiately implement a solution.
