Bias!
by R on Jan 16, 2008 02:45 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The bias is clearly noticeable in the article.Just one example.The author is speaking highly of the Su-30MKI and talks about IRKUT (Russia) , France and Israel but he totally turns a blind eye to the very important things that India(DRDO and other govt organisations) has supplied!

"Su-30MKI is fitted with several Indian designed and manufactured avionic items. Several critical items were developed by DRDO under a project code named "Vetrivel" (Spear of Victory Vel in Tamil) in close collaboration with the PSUs and the IAF. These included the mission computer, display processor and radar computer. Other systems supplied by the DRDO and HAL include the INCOM frequency hopping, jam resistant radio set, radar altimeters, IFF units, as well as dial-pointer instrumentation for the cockpit, intended as a backup for the digital Liquid crystal displays.

Some of the components developed by Indian agencies were:

* Mission Computer cum Display Processor-MC-486 and DP-30MK (Defence Avionics Research Establishment DARE): The 32-bit mission computer performs mission-oriented computations, flight management, reconfiguration-cum-redundancy management and in-flight systems self-tests. In compliance with MIL-STD-1521 and 2167A standards, Ada language was adopted for the mission computer's software.
* Radar Computer - RC1 and RC2 (DARE)
* Tarang Mk2 Radar Warning Receiver High Accuracy Direction Finding Module
* IFF-1410A - Identification Friend or Foe
* Integrated commu

Those contributions are impressive, and important. DRDO avionics are good. Making a sophisticated aircraft like Su-30 is something only a few countries in the world can do. China can't. Canada can't. South Korea, Thailand, Philiipines etc definitely cannot. Let's appreciate the good work DRDO does, instead of mindlessy complaining and bashing them.

Work culture in DRDO
by Arman on Jan 16, 2008 02:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Name one scientific organization where people work 9-5 shifts. DRDO is not a manufacturing place. Even in US, scientists have flexible work hours. They don't show up for work for months.

So cut this crap about DRDO employees are having chai etc. Lets find the ways how to encourage new ideas, solve problems.

Only missiles that China has supplied to Pakistan are within 300 km range. All other claims are bogus and misleading. Pakistan cannot manufature a decent bicycle but CNN says that it selling missile and nuke technology---oh.. sure if pigs could fly.

All other claims about Ghouri, Abdali are bogus and has been deliberatley played up by western media.
Pakistan cannot manufacute a decent bicycle but, if we were to believe CNN, has been selling nuke and missile technology....Oh Sure

Should blame to DRDO's hiring policy asking to have atleast 80% in Undergrade, which is easily attainable in Southern Indian but no elsewhere.
