India and China are like comparing a Watermelon to an Orange. Come on Journalist, come out of this China fixation Dictatorships seldom report 100% truths. You will see only what the govt wants you to see, In Democracy you will see what you see. In India you can call names to our PM make jokes about him etc but in China the govt does not take it in good humour So stop comparing India to China. India will use whatever method India feels applicable to develop.

Ramasubramaniam Iyer ,
The website and auther are not of dictatorship. The author uses her own eyes to see and tell us the information. We can know these things from many other sources too. Do not be jealous of China's feats.
It's more like poor people are wiped out of China ..Isn't that the philosophy of Commie swines, witnessed recently in Nandigram? Buddha rascal after all follows his masters
BEWARE - China has the biggest Army in the world. China is already a Superpower & Global power. China is now world 3rd largest Economy after US& Japan and it will become biggest economy in the world by 2020 only. China GDP is about three times larger than India, and its exports are eight times larger. China $5,800bn in savings dwarfs India $215bn only. China has $2,400bn of foreign exchange reserves, India has $221bn only.
I am an NRI and my ex-fiancee is chinese with who i had a relation for couple of years, during which i learned alot. Few interesting facts, which none of these so called journalist seem to know all about but dont know.. in china there is restriction on movement of people a person from guiyang cannot just move to shanghai or beijing to find a job, the freedom we take for granted in india. This restriction is not just to these two places but other provinces too, You need to apppy for a permit which is granted when you have a accepted job and a place to live... if you are found on the street then you are loaded onto a truck and left on the province boundary.

so funny your lies. China sees the largest movement from rural to cities, 300 million people have moved in last 3 decades.
This is one of the reason why you dont see poverty in big chinese cities compared to in India. Where people from the villages move to cities to find a new job even if they have to spend nights on road side or on railway stations.
Another fact in china you dont have protest when someone disagrees with the gov policy... we started building Narma dam long before work on 3 gorges dam started.. but because of Narmada bachao andolan we still await it's complition.
When china set up SEZ they did get protest in form of singur.
Another very important difference between indian and chinese media is that.. in india the media tries to find a negative aspect in the best of things, in china media finds the best aspect in the worst things.

china attracted lot of bad press on 3 gorges dam. the ecological dangers are well documented, and already at some places they are experiencing land slides.
your point about suppression of free press is correct. we do not get the REAL picture from anyone there. the chinese gov could arm twist even yahoo to reveal the info on dissidents and arrested them.
the poor have been displaced, poverty is not eliminated. pallavi aiyar is mislead into reporting about something false.
Recently cnn aired an environmental special in which they showed the impact of large scale mining, open coal mining in China. It showed the amoung of ill effects of the industry and the peanut compensation they pay to whole villages.
So, much for truthfulness of China. Suppression of rights, democracy, unlawful occupation of Tibet, aggression against India, corruption of high and mighty... - you name it, china has it.

we indians only want to believe what we want to believe, do you feel shameful just sitting there and jealous of China and do nothing? Bashing China can not make India any better. Jealousy doesn't do the same either.
