Indian Politicians - Rather than sending your Offsprings to USA and West , send them to China. So, that you can hear few stories of its Development[ especially : Poverty & Infrastructure ] from them and get shame.
IDIOTS - Wake up : You have eaten enough -- spent money for Indian Development in all Aspects.
India is country of 15 different languages, 2000 dialects, 7 world religions and so on....If we don't have democracy we will have civil war.
In India people have lot more freedom than China. People have the freedom to speak against the government unlike in China where thousands of students were killed in 1989 in Tienamen square.
China adopted free market in 1978 and India adopted in 1991. After that time India has also progressed a lot. Indian middle class has become richer and absolute poverty is 25% compared to 45% in 1991.
We Indian should cherish our gifts, our democracy, our free media instead of comparing blindly with China. In next 15-20 years if India holds on to her growth rate we will become richer and more powerful and we will also have something which China doesn't have.......FREEDOM!

Great point, intellectual freedom is far better than being a communist drone.

Dear Raman How much of intellectual freedom you have against the views of dravidian parties in Chennai.
This is one of the reason why you dont see poverty in big chinese cities compared to in India. Where people from the villages move to cities to find a new job even if they have to spend nights on road side or on railway stations.
Another fact in china you dont have protest when someone disagrees with the gov policy... we started building Narma dam long before work on 3 gorges dam started.. but because of Narmada bachao andolan we still await it's complition.
When china set up SEZ they did get protest in form of singur.
Another very important difference between indian and chinese media is that.. in india the media tries to find a negative aspect in the best of things, in china media finds the best aspect in the worst things.

Yes do you want to take a Governemnt permision to move from Bangalore to Hyderabad as does in China.
Do you want to move 1.5 million people from their lands to build 3 gorges dam. What is your family is one amone them.do you want to live in government shelters as happening in China
SEZ is between builders and land owners, why Govt interfers by buying land cheaply and sell to developers at high price??????
India media is what EX KGB instructed, they don't but they still following.
why we have to compare India to China,Saudi Rabia,Iran,North Korea like countries than to USA,UK,FRANCE,AUSTRALIA,NEW ZELAND???????????

sickularindia please read the heading.. it is a continuation... i am trying to say that in india we dont hide out poor.. we dont clamp our media, we debate on our decision...
by the way.. personaly yes if i have to move 1000 people to benefit another 1 million if i was in power i would. i would look at the bigger picture nto the smaller, but in doing so i would try to make sure that 1000 people who are moved are not neglected and the compensation is not corrupted upon.

why you want to move 1000 people for paise, when you can collect extra money from 1 million people who gone benefit from the dam and give it to 1000 who should be millionaires by this. The development should benefit both the groups.
RE:continuation... of the last comment
by abhinav on Jan 12, 2008 03:04 AM Permalink
this is the problem with you.. it is not about paisa it is about improving the standard of living.. how many times have you lost electricity, because of which the country suffers including those not displaced. How many farmers commit suicide because the crops fail due to no water.
electricity can be used to improve living and country development, and water for the farmers to have good crops.
you cannot just put a magic wand and improve life of everyone equally overnight ... developement is a continuous process in steps.

privitize electricity, privitize sez, privitize farming(no price determination from gov)-----
Development by the people Development for the people
why we need gov to interfer in everything.People can understand suppy and demand and they will adopt to that, just like demand for 1 lack car
I am an NRI and my ex-fiancee is chinese with who i had a relation for couple of years, during which i learned alot. Few interesting facts, which none of these so called journalist seem to know all about but dont know.. in china there is restriction on movement of people a person from guiyang cannot just move to shanghai or beijing to find a job, the freedom we take for granted in india. This restriction is not just to these two places but other provinces too, You need to apppy for a permit which is granted when you have a accepted job and a place to live... if you are found on the street then you are loaded onto a truck and left on the province boundary.

I think the Chinese idea is more advanced. If we had this in India, we would never have had to see cities like Bombay, Calcutta, Bangalore become dieing cities. Ok, have you seen how non-kannadigas or non-tamilians are treated in the respective cities. Talk to them before you talk about what you learnt from chinkus. We have shit in our own backyard and we talk about small problems in neighbors house...... fools.

nandita... i am not in anyway saying we dont have our own problems, we are not developed and we have a looooong way to go..
my reply is in response to the statement "poverty has been wiped out in china" we dont hide our poor people.. or differentiaet between people, as a democracy everyone has equal right. beside we have independent judicary which no doubt is slow, unlike china where the ruling party apoints the people to do the justice

i agree with you. My chinese friend also told me that. If you are caught you either pay up or go to jail and sent back. That means you live illigali in your own country.

This is a drawback with most Indians...we have some kind of liking to under estimate us....just because China is growing at 10% doesn't mean that China is superior...Freedom is priceless and India is shining example to the entire world how well it has maintained its democracy despite all the disadvantages

let me tell you another intersting fact... in china you cannot marry another person of a different province, unless you have a working rite in the province you are going to marry, or you declare that after marriage you are not going to move in that province for work...
i wonder how would we react if any government in India tried to implement this ridiculous law

hey sikular what ever u said is correct but u know we need commies...you yourself excel in many fields where u have a stiff opposition/competetion..most humans get the best out of themselves when they are pitted against good opposition/opponents...so the goverment of a rising and vibrant country like india would be as good as its oposition.. now who is in the opposition...it was congi then bjp and its going to be between them...why commies...Now tell me wats the difference between congi and bjp..wats their idealogy..its just that the heads of govt change it was Atal now its manmohan.. wats the differencce in their approach to foreign investment its the same..now who started sethusamudram -bjp now who is against it the same bjp when ... im not against bjp...they gave us an alternative after 50 yrs? but wat good is it...they just oppose each other beacause they have to oppose..well now this is why i believe there has to be some one who has views different from both..u and me might be aware of nuclear deal..but for how many can u vouch that they new abt the nuclear deal..brainy guys like u have debated here in rediff..why..beacuse it was brought to the notice..every one having a say...evey one entitled to have their own opinions..thats wat democracy is all about...there has to be views there has to be debates and counter debates for the same....and let every indian know what is happening...i belive had no commies been there...u and me wont have had the chance to debate abt many

democracy in hands of millions of ignorant, uneducated guys is like handing electronic goods to apes. And don't accuse me as being a commie for taking this stand. I could as well be a Islamist or a Sanghi depending on where your mind is dancing with all the nonsense. USA did not give voting rights to even all whites(blacks got it later) until more than 80% of them were educated in late 19th century.

There is order in China that sane person can relate to. In a chaotic nation like India, sane people can't identify with it. There are thousand opinions about every matter and each opinions contradicts the next. That results in apathy and ineptitude. We need some order in India.
RE:India is a chaotic nonsense

True that and that is why most sane people in India like to go abroad for studies or work and find the new place better to stay. The same people who in India threw stuff on the roads and didnt care dont do that when they are out of India.

come to LA and you will find people doing the same. Since here there are less people so you will find less garbage on street. Although situation is same

hahahaha soo true Calix... i live in Paris and it is exactly the what i notice. the only difference is the number of people, in some parts of the city if you dont see the artechture of the buildings and only street.. it could very vell be confused with india

I have visited southeast asia, India is a big hype by west and even has worst infrastructure then there neighbor pakistan comparing by all the investments that have been pouring into india. China is a reall change and can be compared to any developed country. It will take india another 100 yrs to where china is, both countries have different dynamics it will take a lot to change in india
