Bharat Ratna was conferred by the Government of India posthumously. Critics have questioned if he would have accepted the award, had he been alive. ie MGRin 1988
Its moronic of Rediff to ask some leader from CPM whether Jyothi Basu should be given Bharat Ratna, for which the answer was apt and then put the headline as if CPM like BJP has demanded/requested for the award.

Had Jyoti Basu been a politician of the countries like China or earstwhile USSR,he wud have been shot like a dog if he had supported a foregn aggression like he and his comrades did during china aggression.It is an Irony that communists r occupying an important position by virtue of their 60 seats in todays politics.Our countrymen should give them a fitting reply in 2009 elections.For me the only person that deserves Bharat Ratna is Mr. Ratan Tata,who kept a promise unlike our uncouth ,corrupt and dirty politicians and changed the face of the car manufacturing industry .
in that biman basu was not proposing the name of Mr. Basu for bharat ratna. When media persons asked his opinion about it he was replyin thats all. this is a real examble where a media can twist any news. I dont thing this as a big issue for discussing.

J Basu's name should not be uttered...he deserves all kind of award from Chaina only, NOT FROM INDIA
