China can never be trusted, if the events unfolding over the last 60 years are any indication. China has annexed vast territories in Myanmar, in Arunachal Pradesh, subordinated Tibet and are building infrastructure with lightning speed, so that they can subjugate Tibet on the exit of Dalai Lama. They always fish in troubled waters and Nepal is the latest in this list. India needs to be alert on the 'C' and "P" factors, for one hates India and the other works to destablize India. Indian agencies would do well to keep China under a neutron microscope and assess their subversive tactics to maintain our integrity.
Suspicion is a disease which all of us suffer from whether individuals or nations.i feel the Chinese are businesslike and professional not like us who dilly dally in negotiations and bargaining.Be open if you want to grow .We want growth economically, politically we have no roots now.The cow and the calf have eaten up the vegetation while the lotus is wavering in the mud,the hammer and sickle are combating with socialist capitalism.economic growth is important, employment is more important.Joining hands and working towards a goal is the ultimate.

It is better to be concerned and safe rather than being sorry like in 1962.
Let us carry on with the talks with CHINA but let us not get carried away. Let us not be overawed by China whom Manmohan Singh has called our GREAT NEIGHBOUR. The Chinese are known to be treacherous and back stabbers of the highest order.
Never let our guard down as far as China is concerned. The price we may pay could be very very high. Let us be careful.

as india only behaves like an 51st state of USA and says only what USA wants, every body will suspect it. remember despite every body has got right to progress in all respect, india voted against iran just because USA wanted this. now if USA says something else, india will follow this too. so as USA is spreading international terrorism and attacking on poorly equipped countries without any valid ground, any ally of USA too is suspicious. india should not become a part of usa and should have its own say and thinking so that it can gain some pride and good selfless friends in the world scenario.

Dear Golden : Your thinking is muddy. China is the biggest threat to India and USA could be a useful ally, which USA has begun to realize in recent times. Winston Churchill once said that Britain has neither permanent friends nor permanent enemies ... but only permanent intersts. When you are fortunate to locate some 'selfless' friends, do pls announce it to the world.

Are you from the Left brigade by any chance? Next you will say 'China's chairman is our chairman'. Which country has attacked India, and taken over a sizeable part of its territory? Which country claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of itself? The US or China? Only muddle-headed Leftists will support China vis-a-vis the US. And even these Leftists send their children to American, not Chinese universities.

we dont want to be a pushover. we should first concentrate on fortifying our borders, and setting our house in order. right now we have plenty of issues with borders, naxals, weak anti-terror policies. the way the government is lax abt terror, i shudder to think whats on the government's mind!

Modi jaise hi ab international politics me kam aaenge. He has some spine. He can take decisions. Not like the Congies or the Commies
Hats off to Sri Raman for his excellent analysis and synthesis of this complex issue in a commendable style. It is an article worth preservation at least by the academicians and the aspirants of high civil services. While argeeing fully with Sri Raman,I feel that we need to be on our guard with China in the context of its increasing infrastructural activities in the strategic defence areas of the of our neighbouring countries and its leaning towards and pampering of Pakisthan.I also feel that China is consciously envious of the increasing competence of the Indian IT sector which is posing a threat to their monopoly over the allied fields.Though there have been no apparent altercations and attacks by China after 1962,the lull cannot be taken on face value. There is always a calm before storm.Though theoretically,we may infer in our way as lay people,we need to view the considered opinions of our intelligence agencies with due weightage especially in defence matters. What meets the eye cannot always be taken for granted. The "galloping trade" pacts, "proliferating exchange of visits" should not blur our inside vision to see the moves of China.Sri Raman will kindly excuse me if I say that it is not pessimism if we be on our own guard in our own interest as history had already taught a very bitter lesson for believing in the slogan-"Hindu Chinee Bhai Bhai" in 1962.And naturally, once bitten,we need to be shy twice.I fervently appeal to Sri Raman to contribute more such stuff.
Every INdian should be vigilant of this fact. As long as Communist Parties rule China, dont take anything for granted. China wants a weak India, an India which is ruled by puppets that take orders from China.
Communist China is a greater danger to India than Pakistan or Bin laden.

Pakistan ceased to be a threat long back. It is just a minor irritant now. India should concentrate now more on China.

True. My wild guess is that India developed Nuclear weapon just to make CHINA think twice before making any moves of attacking India for any reason as they are already Nuclear.
Not at all because of Pakistan. They can be contained with some Kashlinikovs(Spelling may not be right) made by the Afghans. There is a saying that the Dogs which Bark won't bite.

Same problem is with west bengal also... China literally controls west bengal.. karat, basu, yechuri are just for name sake... actual power is yielded from china... the real example is the opposition to nuclear deal...

Hi Sameer : Amen to all you have said. And the opposition to the US nucelar deal is because it will make India energy independent, which is not to the advantage of China and in turn, its satellite CPI-M. CPI-M's only agenda is to keep fomenting trouble.Else, they have ruled West Bengal for 30 years and it is a long time for them to have done something really good for the people. Jyoti Basu in his 90s has suddenly discovered that West Bengal needs capitalism to get ahead. What a clown and CPI-M says it would be okay if he is conferred the Bharat Ratna. He can be conferred only Communist Ratna and am sure, China, Russia and other commies will go to town on that issue.
