I love your reply. I think the women whether Local or Tourist should have the right to take extreme measure in self defense, since it is clear that the Law enforcement agencies are failing repetedly to enforce any Law and protect the fundamental rights of the citizens.
BAN THE POLICE...
I am currently residing out of India and although I love India and would want to come back eventually I feel very insecure even about visiting my own country on my own.
I also have to give crdit to western women who demand that the Law is enforced and they get justice.

I truly empathize with your feelings and I think its got to do more with the awareness levels - sexual education and if it is discussed openly then I am sure there can be a gradual change... But it has to be seconded by stringent law enforcements... the DIG -- or should I say the DOG and his son are still absconding

Publicize the Punsihments too
by Dravidian on Jan 10, 2008 01:10 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Media should also publicize the punishments given to these rapists and molesters, so that other potential rapists or molesters will be deterred. After all, punishment is supposed to have a deterrence value. So publicizing it is required.

I agree...
And I think it is absolutely wrong to cover the faces of these "unless proven guilty" criminals. Why does the police allow these crooks to cover their face.

Eve teasing...
by Rai on Jan 10, 2008 01:00 AM  Permalink

Many people think eve teasing is only in colleges, we need to bring/impose strict laws to overcome this kind of eve teasing in public. Many woment wont complaint, becase they will again molisted at Police station. We need to produce better policemen(or police-women), my personal feeling is that the recuirtment of police should be given to some militry department where the curruption is less (instead of our so called Politicians), if a police pay HUGE amount as bribe to get job, he wanted his money back by the name of Bribe... We all educated should follow some ethics irrespective relgion/caste/bhala-bhla to build a better system for our childern. Otherwise, our kids will settle in better countries... and the proposition will increase in our won country. Respect wonmen as your sister or mother. Do marriage before you involve such complications (in our country average marriage age is more than 25/30). Eventually, it will change one day...

Reporting one crime does not undervalue the imporatance and destructiveness of another crime.
Women rights have to be also raised. women are after all almost half the countrys strenght and aomen can be from any religion yet be subjected to sexual assaults.

Bad, but unfair bias
by zzzzz zzzzz on Jan 10, 2008 12:50 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Is it expected that we believe rape and sexual molestation (by priests or otherwise) only occurs in India?

Some people immediately start talking of Indian culture and hypocrisy, forgetting that it is the circumstances and the inefficient means of tracking down criminals that lead to such crimes.

No, it is not the circumstances and inefficiency....it is the mind set. It is the social ethos that we are living with. The premise that anything goes as long as we destroy mosques and kill missionaries. Rape and sexual molestation happens everywhere, but elsewhere the guilty are brought to book, no matter if he is a priest or a god man. I know of a certain god man in AP who has been accused of sexual molestation by scores of people, in whose bedroom 4 young men were killed, but he went scot free. Not even a public investigation was allowed to be done. Is this circumstance or inneficiency? Unless we rid ourselves of this mind set we will remain in a state of denial and will always live in hypocrisy.
