98 COPS CAUGHT TAKING BRIBE INCAPITAL
by Anna Dorai on Jan 12, 2008 12:04 PM  Permalink

HT NEWS

A sting operation claims to have filmed 98 traffic policemen
demanding and accepting bribes from Blueline bus drivers at 23
traffic lights across the capital. CDs of the film reached the Delhi
High Court on Wednesday.

The man who `stung' the police with the help of a Blueline bus-owner
is 34-year-old Chetan Prakash, a west Delhi property dealer. Prakash
has a history of conducting such operations. Sometime ago he had
filmed about 59 policemen taking bribe from bootleggers. Then also,
he had submitted the tapes to the high court and all 59 had been
suspended after the court-ordered enquiry.

Submitting the original CDs of the Blueline sting to a bench headed
by Chief Justice MK Sharma, Prakash's lawyer Manish Khanna said, "An
organised extortion racket run by the traffic cops has been exposed
for the first time." The bench asked Khanna to hand over a copy of
the CDs to Delhi Police Commissioner YS Dadwal and the Home Ministry.

The sting, carried out between September 12 and December 2 last
year, claims to have captured 18 sub-inspectors, six hawaldars and
around 74 constables in the act. Khanna told the court that the
extent of the areas involved clearly show that it is an organised
racket %u2014 practically every bus has to pass through at least one of
the points listed (see box).

"Delhi stands painted red with the blood of 115 persons who have so
far died under the wheels of the dreaded bluelines this year alone.
With this expose, we kno

Cops and Mumbai police in general
---------

Trust me, we know them. We were scared of them when we were children, and we are scared of them now. Rightly so. Be scared. Because the so-called guardian of the law is often a half-literate, immoral rowdy who could not find a job, and the only job he could get with his minimum intelligence and educational qualifications is that of a constable.

This is not an insult to the thousands of good policemen in Mumbai. We know that you are not as educated or wealthy as the people whose lives are, in theory, under your protection. If society really has classes, you belong to the lower classes. In a cosmopolitan city, where people live the fast life, enjoy unheard of freedoms, the policeman is a grumpy, jealous, ill-paid grouch who is looking for someone to vent his frustration on.

It can be the couple necking on the rocks at Marine drive or Bandra Seaface. It can be the guy who has a new Maruti Zen. It can be that dude with long hair and sunglasses. The cop knows that you are easy prey. The cop knows that calling you a behnchod in front of your wife, or girlfriend will humiliate you, and you will not hit him. He uses that power, and he exacts his revenge on all the people who are so far ahead of him in life by harassing them and demanding a bribe.

Indian police is good for criminals , because police is criminal, that is why public is scared of police in India, then being friendly

Fact is that in west sex and entertainment industry is legalised. But in India the same industry is in the hands of mafia police. How do you think people in india can fulfull their natural apetite for sex? If they are rich they can go to thailand or any such country. But what about rest. I think whatver cabaret, brothels in India are running which are fully partnered by local police of concerned area. they are running by police blessings by paying them fixed hafta.

Every brothel in India is running by illegal licensing of police force who is total corrupt.

Whereas Indian sex industry (illegal) is more than 1 billion dollar stuff, which could be higher than any country where sex is legal.

so why not govt think of legalising sex industry and taking its control out of police hands.

by legalising it would have better checks and law order.

If not India will continue to have sex crimes, rapes, rapes bypolice ( like Sunil Atmaram more, and Maya tyagi case), custodial rapes, gang rapes etc. I think in india rapes are often done more by people in power, people in uniforms, people in authority who think they are entitled to do that.

future of this country is really bad, as public's basic needs are controlled by mafia and criminals.

Bombay is total unsafe, then not to talk about highly unsafe rest of Indian cities and villages.
by Mr Pundit on Jan 09, 2008 03:17 PM  Permalink

21 April, 2005: At sunset, while evening walkers hurried about the South Mumbai's Marine Drive promenade, a drunk constable took a girl to a police chowki situated right there and raped her.

Krishna Kujmar Tiwari who was one of the walkers heard the screams of the girl coming from inside the wooden structure, and with the help of other passersby, rescued her. The half naked and drunk cop inside - Sunil Atmaram More - came out and challenged them saying that he was with the Mumbai police, and nobody could do anything to him.

It seems that the guardian of the law - we don't know if Sunil Atmaram More was on duty when he raped the girl - approached the girl who was with three of her male friends, and asked them why they were loitering around there. Then he called the girl into the chowki for questioning, asked her friends to wait outside, and locked the door.

When the passersby opened the door, they found a half naked more inside, and the girl told them that he had raped her. The police arrived soon after, and took the girl and the cop away. An angry crowd that had gathered tore apart the police chowki on Marine Drive.

Constable Sunil Atmaram More has been charged with Sections 376 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code for rape and wrongful confinement.

India land of rapists
by Ramasubbu on Jan 09, 2008 09:53 AM  Permalink

Phoolan Devi and other Dalit (Untouchable caste) women say that it is common for women to be simply grabbed and raped or otherwise sexually abused by upper-caste men. These incidences are testimony to the lowly status and casual disregard of the human dignity of Dalit women in Bihar.

Govind Kelkar writes that"It is common practice to force a Dalit, agricultural labourer woman to have sexual relations with a Rajput landlord. If the woman declines, her husband, brother or father is implicated in false criminal cases."

One incident which was much-reported in Indian newspapers describes how a Dalit woman was str-ipped by upper-caste men, paraded naked through her village, then gang-raped and killed.

"Dalit women have suffered large-scale neglect under the feudo-patriarchal rule of landlords. Nevertheless, they have showed an unparalleled militancy and strength in fighting landlord oppression and in struggling for improved wages and their right to land and other resources," writes Kelkar.

Though atrocities committed against Dalits are occasionally reported in the Indian press and government documents, convictions are very rare. Despite the thousands of cases reported by the Indian government, Amnesty international, Asia Watch, and even the Indian press, little action is taken. The complicity of corrupt government officials & politicians in some of these killings and other human rights violations, though reported, remains uninvestigated by the government.

by Ramasubbu on Jan 09, 2008 09:08 AM  Permalink

We don't need indian legal system, Better scrap it and let public do justice to the criminals.

because of corruption and tie up of legal system with criminals, crimes are increasing in India. it makes this country as worst , insecure and unsafe country in the world.

Are we Indians don't feel ashamed of our criminalised legal system? or we got used to such things?

Save India ! this is just height of it... all accused released on bail... i mean what kinda impression does that give all the NRIs that beware, before you go to to india, enter at your own risk, noones there to protect or make them feel secure... if govt doesnt take action now, it gives a very wrong signal and can hamper the growth... Govt really needs to work towards cleaning this crime mess...

Always wishing all the best for India ! (cos our future is with it)

I think all foreign tourists, NRI's must stop coming to India. NRI must stop funding indian bureaurcrats, only then Indian legal system will learn a lesson running out of foreign income.

All the women in India must stop paying taxes to this horrible police and legal system.

Just make them stand in row and shoot them- i mean corrupt police and corrupt officials who take bribe and misuse the law and do not work for public specially when paid by public funds.

Indian police stations are most dangerous place even worse than normal streets or jungles.

Girls feels most uneasy and insecured in the vicinity of police station. So are we nurturing these police with our own money in the form of taxes?
