Tasleema Nasrin
by Kris iyer on Jan 05, 2008 08:48 AM  Permalink

Sir/M'am, Taslima Nasreen has come to India believing India to be a free country with many writers, such as Arundhati Roy, able to express their views and comments on all manner of subjects. Her views on Islam or Hinduism or on any other subjects are not the issue. Freedom of expression by a sensitive and humane person is the first issue. She has been threatened with violence in Bangla Desh, a fundamentalist state, for expressing her views. She is a Bengali and loves the language and the regions where that language is spoken and written. I believe she loves Bangla Desh and West Bengal. Hence her preference to be in Kolkatta, if she is going to be killed Bangla Desh. Usual double-standards of the Marxist government in West Bengal, must have come to her as a great shock. It is not Indian tradition to play politics with someone who has sought our protection. This is the other issue. Our central government and the W.Bengal govt., are looking at the possible loss of some muslim votes if they are to extend basic freedoms to Tasleema. Unwilling to shut down the extremist trouble-makers who are hounding Tasleema they instead want to lock her up. Do any of us care for the truth ? Where is our Dharma? Where are all the Arundhati Roys, Teestas, Shobanas and Javeds, in terms of basic freedoms for Tasleema. A non-citizen living in India is not without rights. Indian authorities have to respect the rights Tasleema has under International Law. I personally feel, India would become a more

I agree if you can change this sentence "bundle and throw - her - out of India" as "bundle and throw - them - out of India".

Cheap Politics!!
by Tataghata Mukherjee on Jan 05, 2008 08:26 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We need to look into this issue with a differnt view. Everybody opposing sending back taslima are right, when you consider Taslima as a representative of womens fighting for equality to all females. Even I rate Females superior far above Men. She is the one who can bear all the pain and suffering to give birth to we mens.

But supporting only her because she voiced against the Islam is very pity. The intention of BJP now asking for citizen ship is not because of her work to liberate females.

If our parties were so interested in supporting femaales, ask them to first practice respecting females from their home. India have enough talented females for whome even 50 percentage reservation in election can be made mandatory. Why our political parties implement that first.

This lady knows we in india has large muslim population.we donot want street riots just because of a single alien women. she is giving lot of interviews and other things to psuedo securalistic press about how our govt should treat herand this is nonsense.

by Govinda on Jan 05, 2008 07:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Taslima need security as her religion people only are attacking her. She if wants to move freely she should not demand security. Move freely that too with security is something like have chicken as well as egg too! Better she should have guts to go back to Bangla Desh and change mindset of their people rather than getting shelter in India. Otherwise be bold to face the situation without security in India. Any issue can become International now a days. She if unmarried - should get married Indian boy[Of any religion!], get citizenship of India and live freely. She will get somebody to care of her.
