I have seen many postings on rediff which say that a Jihadi Martyr or a Holy warrier who sacrifices his life is offered 72 virgins in paradise after death. Is this really true or something ficticious or read out of context. Please specify the section number in the Quran if you wish to be authentic.
Further, what happens in case of a woman holy warrier ? Islam which incidently is the only religion which allows women the right to divorce and claims fairness for women. So technically, what do they get when they sacrifice their lives. Non-muslims, please be respectful in your replies. Thanks.

hi milind, I understand your dilemma which I think is also shared by a lot of our Indian brethren. These so called terrorists or Islamic fundamentalists as they are called have mis-interpreted the Quranic teachings. The basic fundamentals of Islam are to pray 5 times a day, perform haj, fast during the holy mnth of ramzan, charity and to fight against your inner desires/addictions(jihad). This is the actual meaning of jihad. Earlier our Prophet(PBUH) in his days used to fight with other tribes for survival. This is the meaning of jihad. Si jihad is a term used for "fight". It doesn't anywhere mention in the Quran that you have to kill all non-believers. Infact there's mention of Moses,Jesus in the Quran. And it also mentions that we need to respect other religions as well.And about the 72 virgins, its just another cheap method of brain-washing these guys like Osama use to convince recruits that they are not doing it for nothing. Most of the people whom they recruit are from illiterate backgrounds. And in Islam, much respect is given to people who grow beards and pray 5 times a day. But just growing beard is not enough, you have to be a true muslim at heart. But generally, people think that this guy has a long beard, always wears a cap,prays 5 times a day, what he is saying is/must be true.But people with even an ounce of common sense would understand that its all bullshit. This whole message expressed by Zardari is incoherent. This is not new when it comes from Pakistani politicians. On the one hand, Benazir seemed to be happy about Musharaf. After Oct. sucide attack, she had said that Musharaf had personally warned her of potential suicide attacks on her and thanked him for the tip off. Now - inspite of this - if she wanted to expose herself to attacks and gets killed - how does it become Musharaf's failure as Zardari seems to be claiming. Also, assasination of an ex-prime minister is a serious enough reason to postpone elections. That country is unstable right now - anyone with even below average intelligence can see that. People who killed Benazir are probably some folks who had personal vendatta against her. To me it appears that Musharaf is the sane guy who is trying his best to keep Pakistan together (and with that intention he wants to wield power) and folks around him are plotting ways to somehow bring him down - for their selfish reasons. I'm a strong supporter of Democracy but the last elections in Pak showed that democracy means a fractured mandate and great power to extremist religious (read non progressive) groups. Kashmiris - the folks supporting the merger with Pakistan - good luck to you.

The danger existed when the Muslim invaders beheaded Hindus for opposing Muslim rules. Hinduism survived all those cruelty for 1000 years. Now Hinduism will survive even when there is no cruelty. there are 80 crore hindus in India itself, not sure about pakistan and bangladesh though. FYI hindu is a 'Sanatan Dharm' which means the one whose beginning and end both are not possible to measure in time.

It seems there was another religion before Hinduism, life was mostly simple, tribal and nomadic...The earliest evidence for elements of Hinduism date back to the late Neolithic to the early Harappan period (9500%u20132600BC) ... of course at that point of time no one knew what religion.. it developed through social, cultural and traditional practices and knowledge acquired over thousands of years, and so it lies as diverse as its today. Also, you dont have to get officially stamped as an Hindu, you just need to believe you are so to be one, unlike any other younger religions where you would have to have religious baptism etc. Philosophically thinking, even today, every person is born a Hindu. :)

i agree with u. India's situation is no different. Sonia Gandhi dint want to be Indian citizen first, but she accepted it because her husband wanted to be PM of India, now she is trying her best to build political carreer of her son Rahul.
