This simply shows the poor state of knowledge and information on part of Americans. This certainly is frightening , not for Indians, but for those who are pathetically impoverished in terms of knowledge about the rest of the world.India is by no means a country which can be ignored, more so, in current times. India is the seventh largest country and a fast emerging economic power, that has many distinctions to its credit. Media in the West may also be held responsible for projecting such poor image of India.
We should restrict foregin media to display our poverty and backwardness. This is creating wrong impression of India.
But what to do, i have faced similar question regarding Bihar in our own country. Electronic and print media has created the impression that Bihar doesn't have roads, electricity, multi storied building..balla..balla....

very true.....just a decade ago a colleague of mine was posted to Chennai and he was from Delhi....surprise surprise!!! his wife was worried stiff about waht they would feed their child as she had heard that one eats only idli/dosa 24/7....and yes that milk wouldnt be as good .....ofcourse it's a different story that they have now bought a house in Chennai and dont have any intentyions of going back.
I think the writer is pretty accurate with what he has written. A lot of times people from other countries really say these stupid things. You feel like kicking their butts and to move out the shell they live in...
if no country had possessed nuclear arms than do u thing america would have acted softly towards china. they could have bombed china by now. hiroshima nuclear bombers was interviewed when asked do u regret nuclear bombing by america in which children are still born with cancer or deformation of body? and the answer was i will still bomb japan if given a chance. so my dear friends though china is our enemy but we should join hand with chinese to overpower america
I have travelled round the world for business reasons and it is not that every country thinks the same. But it is a fact that we as Indians also do not know many things about many countries in the world.How many people know that English is spoken in only few countries in the world like US,CANADA,UK , AUS, SOUTH AFRICA. Other most countries are not even concerned about English leave alone to speak them . And we as Indians think that to speak good English we become one of the smartest. This is a misconception within Indians.

Rajarshi, how come you are posting here in this website in English? If it weren't for English (the universal language of Science, Technology, Management and Business), tell me would you have typed in Hindi on your computer?
No one has a misconception about English here. Just because I don't know about many other countries does not make me a less intelligent person.
Let me challenge your brain with one question: Do you know the difference between the languages, history, diversity, architecture, natural resources, cultures, food-habits, dressing habits, festivals, deities, entertainment of all the 4 Southern states of India (Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala)?

Of course I know about the southern states languages, diversity etc.
Every country has their own language. For eg in all the arab countries the language is arabic approx 23 countries. In thier computer key board is in arabic and not english. In spain, japan also the keyboards are in their respective languages.
How do u say that english is the universal language for Technology.
Wat do u have to say about Japan which is the No.1 country in the world for techology? Do u mean to say they study in English and communicate in English?

I am not saying we shouldnt know English.U got me wrong. Wat I am saying that 90% Indians are ignorant that English is the most spoken language in the world and if u dont know English u dont know anything that is wat educated Indians think.(most of them)
Now wonder Americans are the most ignorant people on earth. They no nothing out side America..Infact they do not even know much about America itself. Some Australian Media did a survey in US asking them wierd questions and seeing funny responses they get..For example "Are you given ticket if you drive car without helmet and most people from US replied that they could"...What a jerk these Americans are.
Don't blame them! What have we communicated in last 60 years? Esotoric data about sages, sadhus, Gandhism etc. Have we ever launched an info blitz about our industrial , financial, scientific prowess? We leave it to be westerners to find out on thier own. Also Unlike China ( which was in a similar situation) from the begining we shouted about Third World, NAM, CHOGM, North South Dailogue ( trying to ttell them that you colonized us so PLEASE give us money on grounds of conscience). Obviously they are right!
WHAT THE HELL THIS WRITER IS WRITING??? I'm sure he's talking straight from Red Indian Tribes. Americans are not aware??? Americans have better idea of India than many Indians. They know the immense growth, interesting diversity and various religion across India. I've lived in all parts of USA and everyone (from deli shop owner to IT giants) know what India is all about. There has been various sessions on Discovery and others depicting India's growth. Their Senators talk about us, their IT workers talk about us, their scientists talk about us, their shopkeepers talk about us and all with great respect. This guy just wanted to write something and he did it and Rediff published it because they had space to fill in.
i had watched on tv when journalist interviewed american during soccer world cup. journalist was asking what do they know about soccer? and the answer was what is it ? so do u feel europe is backward?
