One thing that does come out of this discussion is that Indians are too image concious for our own good? Why do we care how the forigners percieve India? Let us develop India and then all the perceptions will be corrected. I think we have an inherent inferiority complex about ourselves. Let us shed our complexes and get on with our development. No one will look down on 5 trillion dollar economy. Right?
Well, it's not just India, these American kids don't even know about US itself. Ask anything from history, or current affairs, or science, u'll get all kinds of ridiculous answers but the right one. So the point is don't be amazed if they don't know about India.

But they know how much a burger cost and we do not know how much a kg of rice cost ?
Hey Dhruv / Nisha , Pl come and see India first hand. 9 out of 10 places are the pits. I mean it. There is filth everywhere. There are people who get water bills every month , and who dont get water even twice a week. Most public place dont have any useable toilets. So , so , so .......in several ways , you will be sorry to learn that your American classmates were dead right to begin with.

When me compare need to compare a Indian cleaner with his US counterpart and not ambani with common American. Can any of us imagine asking our domestic help "How was you weekend ?" on a Monday morning %u2026 No way !! We need to get to that level to compare with US. All Indians need to have a basic living standard then only we shine as country.

This shows us how patriotic we are. Would you say so to your neighbors, if one of your own family members were rude to you?
So why speak ill about own country, where you live and enjoy this internet edition of rediff media and commenting on this article.
Guys - give the kid a break. He is only 15 and is very brave of him to have written on an international website. You must remember this is written by a teenager and not an expert on India or Indian development and so does not represent a 360 degree view. Now for all the mud slinging happening on the disucssion board. 1) remember that we are all indians outside india and out here ( i am in the UK), we are all indians, not from a state in India. Can we not behave like Indians inside India as well. 2) India is progressing and is half way there. So we dont have a completly modern society like the US/UK.(hence the chest staring by Indian men - heck, men do that all over the world), niether we a completly regressive society ( like N korea or Somalia). 3) while our IT folks have done India's image a wolrd of good, better media managment is definitely needed. Most news out of India is either about accidents, diasaters, poverty or about our fights with Pakistan. 3)We need better social manners. Our personal manners are amongst the best in the wolrd -but social manners are missing. 4) We need to make our society in general more aware and having a global out look. Mass media and bollywood need help here. And I dont mean having our stars shooting films and dancing on the street corners in London. We have a half glass of water- and its the perception that counts

Iam really thankful to you that you said it all. Indians awake and speak good about your own country and strive to make it still better.
we are still behind many Asian countries in infrastructure, poverty, bad behavior.Always having communal violence, religious violence against minorities and discrimination of caste, color of skin and many more.Best for Indians to humble themselves and let the world laugh at us as we deserve it.Don't compare Mittel and the other guy as they are just greedy guys and make a show of their wealth so too all bollywood stars----nothing but corrupt and they destroy the values here.Cheap women who have noting but big mouth. Why can't they give generously to the poor like American stars. They are no match to any stars of AMERICA.

At least give some credit to yourself and let others also do so. We have shown quite a good progress. Let's take this credit and build our country strong and respectable.
More then 60% India do not have electricity. Probably you know only about you and surroundings, the true India is a lot different. Please do not hesitate to accept that you are lucky enough to enjoy some luxuries. Please do not blame population. It is population is the our main strength and the population you talking include you me and our family.

Why do you think just because it is Salim Khan you have to bring in Pakistan. He said his comments as an Indian just like any other person is doing. Stop this nonsense.
