When it comes to Farmers' issues, all are excellent in acting and there are dramas everywhere. In today's Deccan Chronicle, there was a group photo with a caption 'Sonia meeting Farmers". Well-dressed (dress worth many thousands), fatty fraud farmers who doesn%u2019t know anything about soil. Nonsense drama! Have you ever seen an Indian farmer with only skin and born on his body, Sonia? Your security guards will chase them away if they try to approach you. Now, all the nonsense drama in the parliament! Koranennum kumbilil thanne kanji! Even Chidambaram will join with all this brouhaha because after all he has to be got elected again by these very untouchable farmers.

Survival of democracy
by vanaja sampath on Feb 28, 2008 04:01 PM  Permalink

Even after 60 years of independence, we are yet to learn how to select an MLA Or MP.Similarly the elected MLAS & MPS are forgeting the people who brought them to such an important position of deciding the genuine requirements of the people who voted them to power. The eloctorates are exploiting the illetracy of the masses & get their votes rateher buy their votes. Unless an MLA or an MP has got a strong political will & conviction to develop his constituency to the satis faction of the people of that area, democracy is at thestake only.Save agricutural lands & ceiling on TIDAL PARKS CONSTRUCTIONS.

The MLAS & MPS alsorequired to know certain basicparliamentary norms. No use of opposing anything & every thing only because they are Opposition members. T.Sampath

Speaker's reaction
by sharad Patankar on Feb 28, 2008 03:58 PM  Permalink

How ridiculous ! A staunch communist talking about the democracy and it's value. A person living in glass house should not throw stones at other glasshouses. See how nicely and brutally democracy is murdered in W.B. his homestate.

'You are working overtime to finish democracy'
by Harkishan Haswani on Feb 28, 2008 03:57 PM  Permalink

I think 'Loan' is 'Money' which is not needed by farmers. They are commiting suicide because they could not produce the crops ventured by them while taking loan (there would various reasons for such failures). They need the field i.e. 'Zamin' to continue venturing and trying their speculations with nature. I have heard peasants are not highly educated (may be I am wrong) Therefore, this is the key to all of their problems. If they become highly educated, then they would hardly fail - that would be termed as 'Green Revolution version 2...3...4....n'.
However, as a FIRST STEP presently highly educated section of the society (INDIA as a WHOLE) to be approached by the GOVERNMENT to find out the RIGHT TOOL to survive during such failures and also consistently keep monitoring the data on day-in day-out basis. You would see the difference 'Doodh ka doodh aur Paani ka paani'.
Thank you for providing me an opportunity to write on this subject.

In Singapore, where I worked before, the ministers are qualified educated people who are amongst the highest paid individuals in the land. They are expected to produce tangible results and are completely accountable / responsible for their actions. That's why laws are strictly imposed if anyone steps out of line. All activities are planned in a corporate manner aimed towards achieving results.

While our country (and its people) are great, sometimes I feel that the constitution needs to be changed, so that the masses cannot elect such clowns as our representatives. These jokers shout at the top of their voices meaninglessly at our expense and think they are doing a great service to the nation. Ask them in detail about their subject and they will often not have a clue. Yet we continue to elect them. In a way we deserve what we get.

These jokers need to be stripped and horse whipped in public.

Couldn't agree more. The calibre of our politicians is pathetic. Yes, our constitution must be amended..instead of adult franchise it should be literacy franchise.

Remember reading in Time magazine years ago...during the American Auto worker's strike, a meeting was held between the president of Auto Mfrs union and president of Auto workers union....guess what, they were both classmates in Law school - Harvard University. Such calibre.

You are working overtime to finish democracy'

It is very unfortunate to hear such comment from speaker and our MPs should work together irrespective of their idealogical differences when it comes to put the Indian Agriculture and Poor farmer on right track. Without the backbone of farmer, all our growth rates are meaningless and the Indian farmer .. MG of our freedom struggle. Urban people should cooperate to understand the difficulties of millions of farmers working .. though for their survival and to serve the people. Let us have genuine understanding of their problems before stamping them as 'simple politics'

I appreciate your concern for the poor and small farmer. But the hon'ble members do not protest on behalf of the small and poor, they have their eyes on their prospects in the coming elections. Small and marginal farmers only occasionally get the opportunity to get a loan from government agencies, it is the wealthy, non-tilling 'farmer' who get the benefit of such largecies, but are unwilling to return the same. They are patronized by certain people, may be for undisclosed favours.

Every country will get a government which will be a true representation of the people of the country.

Look at the kind of language people use in this discussion board. Look at the venom in it. The group of 540 odd MPs in the parliament and hence the government is the true representation of the same people. There is no logic in whatever they are discussing. You will always bring illogic to counter logic and reasoning. You will get what you deserve.

One should look at the way the British MPs sit in the House of Commons.

Keep fighting.
