'You are working overtime to finish democracy'
by James Bond on Feb 28, 2008 04:30 PM  Permalink

Somnath Chaterjee is the worst speaker of Lok Sabha India has ever seen. Since, communists are herd-minded they cannot play a good catalyst role as they are very rigid in their approach. All these years, they have supported Congress from inside and threatened withdrawl of support from outside and look at their reasoning they want to keep communal forces out of power. Infact they fear BJP the most.

And the Drama continues
by DSK Rao on Feb 28, 2008 04:25 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Political system in our country has come to a stage that it is a mockery to call it a System. We have unfortunately incapable & corrupt people who have managed to occupy positions of power in this country. Neither these people have the decency nor the required vision to steer this country. What is left is cheap antics and discussions of no value wasting the Tax Payer's money.

The whole lot should be ashamed of themselves as collectively they are responsible for thousands of farmers commiting suicide.

They all should be arrested for abetment to suicide & cheating(Sec. 420 for making false electoral promises) and thrown behind bars.

Unfortunately, the Drama continues

If it is true that thousands of farmers have committed suicide, then it is scandalous for sure. However, one needs to find out why did it all happen. Did the farmers get whole of the loan sanctioned to them or there was a cut at the bank? Did the farmers use the loan for the purpose for which it was sanctioned, that is, for cultivation, buying farm cattle, farm machinery, etc. or did they spend it on dining and wining at naming ceremony, hair shredding, marriage, or repaying loans taken from the local lender?

Dear Rao,

You hit the nail on the head when you said "And the drama continues".

I would like to add something to your line where you propose that all the politicions should be booked under sec 420. I think that WE the voters, who put them there are equally to be blamed for this situation. Afterall, these corrupt leaders are corrupt because WE bribe our way out of trouble. They are LEADERS, because WE send them there. And it is WE who just say a whole lot of things, but dont care enough to venture out of our comfort zones and try to change it.

A proud Indian.

Unfortunately we as voters have very little choice. We are all busy in our small little worlds that when the time comes for elections we have equally bad choices to choose from and who all make a cacaphony of noises in terms of promises. So many refrain from casting their vote in sheer frustration.
In fact when I was invited for the 'Lead India' show, I made a request that instead of identifying ONE leader, the exercise should identify 544 Leaders(1 per constituency).

I want some viable alternatives

Disgrace aboundingin theLok-Sabha...
by D goel on Feb 28, 2008 04:19 PM  Permalink

Pkl. afternoon, 4.10pm,Thursday, the 28th Feb. 2008.
It is extremely distressing that indians in general do not realize the value of constitutional behaviour in our parliamentary sovereignty. No session of Lok-Sabha whether Budget or others is free from adjounments and rowdy slogan-shouting round the Speaker's Podium!
Any lover of orderly pursuit of political processes either in opposition or sitting on the ruling benches is not free from this responsibility to see that the work of our Lok-Sabha Speaker is not made increasingly thankless and pain in the neck.
We are in a sense burying Democracy in silly and idiotic noise related euphoria of protests ,
that are unfortunately ,seen by our Politically partisan Parliamentarians as the testimony of their playing loyal to their respective political constituents!
Nothing gets on record except the psychological feeling of slogan-shouting rowdies amongst our honourable MPs that they are second to none in espousing by voice if not with Reason the justified obligation of playing the watch -dog of their constituents! The role of debate and argument is better than creating riot and walk-out does not seem to rub on the tough hides of such Political mavericks!.D.Goel

Somnath-Babu
Your record seating on Opposition bench was not very very rosy. Indians have very good memory power. And, your party is only good at Shouting "Nahin Chalaga..!!". We indians know that very well.

Democracy
by vinay kapur on Feb 28, 2008 04:09 PM  Permalink

Democracy has nothing to do with how members behave in the parliament while interacting with each other. What is relevant is how ordinary people are treated outside the parliament by
the elected representatives and the elected governments.Ask the people how they rate the government in this regard.

What is happening in our country in the name of democracy will put us all in shame among the outsiders. These days brilliants boys and girls do not want to go for IAS and IPS and other allied services becuase they have to work under these people. Yes, we need to do something to arrest this trend. All these crockadile tears for the farmers is nothing but for votes in the next elections. First of all, we should ban all regional politics. Only political parties who have a positive vision with national interest, and who can put these into paractice should be allowed to contest election. No body is interested in the nation's progress; their interest is limited to themselves, their parties, state, constituencies, etc. Let them at least practice, what is preached.

But we can do nothing. Our hands are bound as we have given all the power to these parochial politicians, as we ourselves are parochial and regional to the hilt. That is why we have a Raj T., a Karunanidhi, a Mayawati, a Mulayam S., a Praveen Togadia, and others. Some countries have military dictatorship, others have/had dictatorship of the proletariat, we have dictatorship (hidden in the garb of democracy) of the uncouth, unruly regional chauvanists. it is too much to expect from them positive vision in the national interest.
