Let's be self reliant dude!
by vinayak sinha on Feb 27, 2008 01:54 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If India can send a miss%uFFFD to the moon then why not go for an indigeneous air carft carrier. If need be, buy both the US and Russian and create a new hybrid one that is better than bith and sell it back to Russia and US:-)

No one wants third class Indian products. Share of India in both world trade as well as weapons is less than 1%.

bad ad position

Why do you put ads which cover the news item itself? Can't you design the page properly?

Kitty Hawk may sink Russia's Gorshkov deal
by vinayak bhide on Feb 27, 2008 01:46 PM  Permalink

The pragamatism must be capitalised on by us.
In each & every relationship there are pros & cons, what our policy needs is immiscibility like Red China.

Grow up rediff
by Rahul on Feb 27, 2008 01:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think rediff should get some better folks to comment on such matters.
1) Gorshkov has already been signed and India has already paid money...I think USD 800 millions.Beacuse of Gorshkov India signed the Mig 29 deal (naval version) and infact India will start getting the delivery from next year
2) Gorshkov was supposed to join this August but now may come in 2011 but the deal is done
3) India will get all the high tech gizmos with Gorshkov not with Kitty Hawk
4) india has lot more at stake with Russia like brahmos, Su 30, Akula, Amur Class, Frigates, Smerch, T 90s. So India is not a fool just for Kitty Hawk which itself will be decomisinoned to kill Gorshkov.
5) yes instead of refurbishing Viraat they may opt for Kitty Ahwk (as a stop gap) before Gorshkov and indegineous AC joins
So rediff please do not publish such crap

I donot understand your point. You look all confused. You should come out of the Chinese mentality. One thing is for sure whatever you mean India has to look at it's strategic intrests and to hoots to whatever China does. As of now it looks foolish to even think of Leeting Goshkov go not foolish but childish. Someone confused like you can only think of china, russia, blah blah....Grow up you crappy

The Kitty Hawk is also much slower on sea in terms of speed and manuevers when compared to the Groshkov, and what such millitary battle groups needs is - quick action, as quick as possible. However, the US counterpart is larger in size and can house more aircraft than the Russian ship.

A larger carrier doesnot mean more protection. The only good point I see in this entire deal is transfering the steam ctapult technology which only the west has and India doesnot. Apart from that if now we go for the F 18 naval version we already have ordered Mig 29, we have the Sea Harriers and the Jaguars...it will be a nightmare of platforms to handle. So better stick to Gorshkov and if viraat is decomissioned then think of Kitty Hawk.
Moreover Russians have been more reliable than US and we have more at stake with Russians thank with US

very strategic move
by enticejuan on Feb 27, 2008 01:45 PM  Permalink

can't say about it , it needs lots of rethinking n pondering to go against the offer or along with it , the only option seeing the current world scenario is it is good for INdia n govt to start pouring billion of money in R nD n start manufacturing of own aircrafts , as world is moving ahead with new futuristic weapons n no country is feeling safe about security nobody not usa or russia is going to sell their very latest or future weapon system they will always sell which is going be obsolete in few years or will be decommissioned in their army sooner , so there is no point of buying second rank n outdated materials with so much money
