Get a generator for few thousand dollars. Some are even automatic they turn on when the power goes off.
If your phone doesn't work can you walk to your neighbor's house and use theirs. May be they have the old fashioned non-VOIP phone that works. Your neighbor would have helped you faster with your garage door than poor Greg who had to drive all the way from other side of town in this inclement weather.
Or is this all fiction? Indian-american version of Chicken Little.
The feeling is scary.In fact our microwave had stopped working for a few days and i felt as if i could do "Nothing' without it.Funny how we get used to such things as is we were born with such comforts:(
Strange...! what happens if that SMS even wasn't working? or you were trapped in house itself which were fully digitaly electricalized and got locked up? India is far better.. atleast the person survives.. :)

It's all crap. Unless he is really dumb, it is not difficult to put most of the automated things to manual mode.
