Some issues are worth losing elections over...
by imran patel on Feb 26, 2008 07:16 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is a great opportunity for our PM to stand up. There are certain things that are more important than winning elections. And this Nuclear deal is surely one of them.

The PM needs to draw a line in the sand. Layout the benefits of the Nuclear deal. He needs to start talking with the Indian public. He needs to have a dialogue with the Indian Public. This is a cause that requires the PM to have a "Rath-Yatra".

He needs to make his case in front on the people of this Nation.

The benefits of this deal outway any downside. No other party will oppose this deal if the Indian people feel comfortable about it. The PM needs to close the communication GAP within the Indian People.

He is a honest man. People may think he is not a "Leader", but they do not doubt his credibility or his honesty.

The big hurdle in this deal in COMMUNICATION.

The LEFT or the BJP will be doomed if they oppose this deal.

Dear Mr. Manmohan,
Do not take advise from the Congress-Loyalist. There are times when you have to put your country before your party.

Your stand on this Nuclear issue should silence your critics who doubt your leadership skills.

Start a month long program to sell this to the Indian Public. Choose people that you trust to be your spokesperson. Give interviews. Have debates with these Anti-Trade/Communist pin-heads.

This is an opportunity for you to shine and make good on your promises.

Communication is the KEY.

Imran,

The elections are decided mostly by the illiterate voters. The educated and the well off do not bother to vote. The opponents will just sell the idea that MMS has sold the nation to US. That will decide the outcome.

It hardly matters the problems remain. One can always blame others for our state of affairs, especially the US.

Self above nation
by shiva on Feb 26, 2008 07:01 AM  Permalink

It is clear cut that the issue is self above national interests. We are dependent on Middle East Oil-70%, more than many including China. We can be blackmailed anytime, as oil is becoming a weapon of politics and is high in foreign policy of many. Recent world tensions are stoked by the big powers securing their supplies.

The alternate energy is still far away. Solar can be a plus for us, but it is two to three times more expensive. Hydel will invite the wrath of environmentalists. Let us not wake them up!

We should pursue all avenues. When China is getting it all from everywhere, why should we be so afraid? Have they mortgaged their interests to US & others? Our inability to decide on anything has made others ignore us. Australia bends backwards to please the Chinese as they know their demand for their minerals can give them fortunes. They are ever ready to supply uranium to them. We cut a sorry figure, as we have to comply with the basics, get approval from Nuclear Supplier's Group of which China is a member. We are recycling the fuel and the scientists know we are at the end of the tether.

Is it too much to expect our leaders to put their heads together to find solutions to basic national issues? Where are the road maps for energy security down the line? What solutions do the various parties have?

The sad part is the elections are decided on issues that play on the emotions and parties can survive by blaming others ad naseum. The voters are sold dreams.

If congress has guts, they can either accept the deal or reject it or atleast they can resign, if they are not able to function properly. But the problem is congress only knows power, and biggest problem is we elected them, so we have to suffer.

Strong Will
by SHAAN on Feb 26, 2008 05:16 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If UPA leadership is having strong will, they have to go and sign the treaty with US. If needed say good bye to this Stupid Communist front and go to Election. Communist are always against the development. I remember, when a technopark came to India for the first time in Kerala, our CITU friends asked a labour charge of 100-200 INR to unload one PC weighing mere 5-7 kilos maximum. Our comrades have to be evacuated to China to implement all these bad culture there. If that happens in a matter of one week all these people will be behind the bars. For sure. Our fellow comarades in Kerala, mostly uneducated and barely passed 10th grade dont know whats communism. They simply follow the stupid ideas their very very rich leaders crow on stages! They even dont know their leaders are very very rich than they can imagine.

the treaty isn't valid until ratified by India's parliament ... the UPA govt. does not have the sauthority to sign a deal until the parliament approves it ... you don't understand!

it's time for UPA to scuttle the deal and save its govt. because they cannot make the deal without left support.

It's like asking - your money or your life? you don't want to give your money away but what's money without life. LOL

the deal won't be valid then ... US can reject it and should congress be replaced by someone else next year, that party can reject it ... for the deal to be binding, it must be ratified by the parliament ....

it is like saying that you sold your dad's house without his authorization .... you dad may not accept the sale or reject it ... because it's his house and he didn't authorize you to sell it.

India will never prosper if communists remain in power
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Feb 26, 2008 04:30 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Indian people should decide whether they want prosperity or communists. Two of them can not co-exist. Communists love to remain in poverty, as they are in West Bengal; but India, as a country must reject poverty and embrace capitalism to prosper, because, it is a proven fact that ONLY capitalism can make you happy...

Crappy communists!

It seems that Congress and Left feels that all Indians are stupid and illiterate. So they can do any thing they want. This time we must teach them a good lessons to both, if we want to progress. So it can be remembered at least for 25 years.

actually in USA thery haven't built any new nuclear power plant in the last some 10 years .. they are phasing out nuclear power in the USA by not building new plant.

nuclear power accounts for only 20% of US power production but in france it is 80% of their total power production
