PUNE-Thieves get smarter on expressway
by fire desire on Feb 25, 2008 01:25 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

PUNE: If you are driving down the Pune-Mumbai expressway and a man or youth astride a two-wheeler offers help by saying that your car is spewing smoke, beware. The %u2018Samaritan%u2019 may be a cheat disguised as a mechanic.

According to the victims, a gang of such cheats looking for unsuspecting people is on the prowl on the expressway. Car drivers have been duped to the tune of anything between Rs 1,500 and Rs 4,000.

Speaking to TOI, Dattakumar Sawant, a senior citizen, said he was travelling with his wife towards Pune on Friday and a biker took Rs 1,400 from him on the pretext of changing a %u2018faulty%u2019 part that was %u201Cspewing smoke%u201D.

The Reality
by on Feb 25, 2008 01:19 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What is happing in Mumbai and other south Indians cities especially in Bangalore, large numbers of North Indian people are settling down and they show utter disrespect to local language and culture, instead they try to impose their language and culture on local people, this is totally unacceptable. There are lots of incidents where gangs of migrant people abusing locals and insulting women folks as per media reports. Show me how many incidents of Maharastrians and Kannadigs involving in any anti social activities in North India? There is a fundamental difference North Indians with rest of the country. Please refer to recent statement by Lt.Governer of New Delhi.

Lets talk about Lalu and other UP politicians, they are the real culprits for mass migration from Bihar and UP states into southern states. These corrupt and criminal politicians ruined both the states and causing socio and economical problems for rest of the county. If these politicians from UP and Bihar are not contained, they will create a situation which leads to civil war. I dont blame Thackeray as much I blame North Indian corrupt and criminal politicians.
After all, states were created to preserve local language and cultures. It is time for all non Hindi speaking states wake up and oppose these corrupt, criminal and breeding machines from UP and Bihar.

Raj the Menace
by Paul on Feb 25, 2008 01:10 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

So India has changed. Sure India has changed, India has changed to the land that even an Indian is not welcome. Since when did Bombay realize that being a separate region would be better? Since they gained popularity as the Commercial Captial?

Be informed you communal rats(only the communal rats) that India gave you what you have today! Indians gave you your film industry! Indians protect you! There a zillion 'Indians', other than Maharastrans, in the armed forces, yet you look upto them for protection and kick them out of your place. You punks are nothing but some immature rats, along with your so called 'politician'.

What do they mean by teaching "Unity in Diversity" at schools?? Unless a couple of featherbrains and couple of poli-'tick'-tions get dumped somewhere in Indian Ocean, the statement will never hold true.

Can vouch for the fact that 25 lac Biharis support that? A blasted few politicians are for the idea, but that's no reason to sweat it out on the rest of the Biharis. What's with the invasion? Are you a native of Mumbai? are you complete Maharashtran, a true blood? Ask your pop mate, we all mixed, with all Indians..nobody told you that you invaded Bombay then, no native tribe rose upto you with arms. They only welcomed you becuase you were an Indian. It's a pity you can't be any broad minded, not even as much as the those tribals.

PUNE - If you live in these areas, beware!
by fire desire on Feb 25, 2008 01:05 AM  Permalink

PUNE: Citizens better watch out, particularly if you live any of the 18 localities which has been identified by the city crime branch as %u2018most prone%u2019 to house break-ins and thefts (HBTs).

An analysis of 2,300 HBTs reported in 2007 by the crime branch has revealed that it is not just the fringe areas, such as Chinchwad village, Nigdi, New Sangvi, Dhankawadi and Mithanagar, but upmarket areas like Shivajinagar, are also prone to house break-ins. These are the localities that figure prominently in the list prepared by the crime branch.

Other areas include Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA), Bhosari, Hadapsar, Wanowrie, Old Sangvi, Kalewadi, Aundh, Yerawada, Bibvewadi, Tingrenagar and Kondhwa.

In fact, Chinchwad village, Nigdi, PCNTDA, Hadapsar and Wanowrie had reported over 20 HBTs each in 2007.

The remaining localities saw between 90 to 110 cases of thefts and house break-ins last year. There are 50 more areas, such as Sadashiv Peth, Nana Peth, F.C. road, Prabhat road, J.M. road, Sinhagad road, Maharshinagar and Handewadi, among others, which reported between 50 to 100 HBTs in 2007.

The common modus operandi employed by thieves was breaking locks or cutting window grills to enter the house.

Other methods deployed were breaking door latch, use of duplicate keys to open locks and driving holes in the walls of jewellery shops.

Mass marriage scheme for Maharashtra
by fire desire on Feb 25, 2008 12:56 AM  Permalink

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government is planning to implement the mass marriage scheme, launched in Vidarbha region to help debt-ridden farmers marry off their daughters, all over the state.

"Going by the good response the scheme has received in Vidarbha, we are planning to take it to rest of the state," Women and Child Development Minister Harshwardhan Patil said.

The scheme, under which over 16,000 marriages have taken place, was introduced as part of government's relief package to six districts in the cotton belt which have witnessed a large number of suicide by farmers.

It was launched in February last year and provides for a subsidy by the state to the tune of Rs 11,000 per marriage, the Minister said.

It stipulates that a minimum of 10 couples should wed during a mass marriage ceremony. Marriage registration certificates are provided to such couple immediately after the wedding by the authorities in every district.

The government has so far made a provision of Rs 24 crore for the scheme, Patil said adding of this, Rs 16 crore had already been spent.

In order to encourage voluntary organisations to come forward in arranging mass marriages, the government gives them Rs 1,000 per couple to meet related expenses, he added.
