No easy way out
by shiva on Feb 21, 2008 06:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The best decision seems to be no decision.

MMS is the scape goat for our problems. This is simplicistic and ignores the harsh political landscape. No harm in being proud of our democrazy but what choice does MMS have? Even the coalition is ever ready to pull the rug from under his feet. He is jumping from many crises to others, all domestically created.

We have no national interests. We agree on nothing. The energy situation is one such. We are one of the most dependent countries on the Middle East oil-70%. Oil is becoming a political tool. Never rule out the situation when we may not be able to get it at any price.

Many talk about alternatives. They are many decades away. Solar will be the best bet for us, but where is the cutting edge technology? There are many credible reports that oil production has hit its peak and the recoveries are getting more expensive. The days of cheap oil are over. The reserve figures in Saudi is unrelaiable. There are wheels within wheels to maintain that there are great reserves to put off any major alternate energy initiatives.

Many countries including China, France are going for increased nuclear power. We are the outcaste and not even in the NSG group to get fuel. Australia prospers supplying uranium to China. We are at others' mercy in all types of fuel needs.

Unless we have a consensus on these vital national interests, our ego can be deflated in no time.

We can fiddle when oil still burns!

Green house
by Rajeev on Feb 21, 2008 03:23 AM  Permalink

Its easy to say use green house etc..But these techs are costly..and not easy to make 4000MW etc from these techs. Nuclear energy is sure costly to install But once the reactors start,it produces tremendous power at relatively low costs.

Solar Energy is one great gift to India but our politicians with the lack of vision, are not doing anything to harness this free gift. India has access to free solar energy in abundance atleast in 50 percent of the country. Give heavy subsidies to Solar Plants and give Solar panels to Farmers so they can generate current while SUN is there is day time and then at the same time use it for irrigation purposes. This conserves majority of Electricity. Also, give subsidies to Solar Energy Plants, give subsidies to Solar Manufacturing Plants, so that we donot get flooded with imported Solar Cells but use our own produced Solar Cells and this will help the entire eco system. Lack of VISION and selfishness of our politicians is what is ruining the development of our politicians and also lack of knwoledge of common citizen of India is what makes our politicians get away with their mistakes and irresponsibility. It took 1 year for our politicians to announce the Semiconductor chip manufacturing policy. This tell how irresponsible our politicians are.

INDIA NEEDS ELECTRICITY TO REDUCE OIL DEPENDENCE
by sridhar gorantla on Feb 21, 2008 12:44 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is true. Every year, Indian exports are around $120 billion and India spends about $50 Billion only on Petrol imports. We should side with USA and get this deal cleared, so we get more electricity generated from Nuclear Power Plants. With this, we get more electricity and this in turn will fuel people using Battery operated 2 & 3 wheelers & to some extent 4 wheelers as well and this will reduce India's OIL import bill. This means, India will save lot of money by not spending it on the Import of Oil. More over, if we are stuck with Oil, which is mainly from Middle East, its not good for India. OBSERVE ONE THING CLEARLY. IT IS THE WEST THAT HELPS US DEVELOP BY WAY OF GIVING US MORE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK IN THEIR COUNTRIES AND BY WAY OF TAKING OUR SERVICES FROM OUR IT EXPORTS AND APPARELS, PHARMACHEUTICALS etc. While Muslim nations have not done anything, inspite of India having worlds second largest Muslim population. Think about it on whom we need to have alliance with for our development. When there was an Earthquake in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia gave 3Billion dollars as a charity. While the same Saudi didnot give any thing for India in its time of need, inspite of so many Indians working and serving Saudi's doing menial jobs there.

And more ove, if you want to see again roads free of smoke pollution from Petrol based automobiles, then move to Electricity based Transportation rather than Petrol based one.

Who is against progress?
by snpost on Feb 21, 2008 12:41 AM  Permalink

Bhaiyas are always against progress. If there was a vote 90 years ago on getting the technology for electricity - Bhaiyas will be against it. It applies to anything that require change - nobody is selling the country - who will want to buy UP/Bihar:).
I can understand the commies - they are getting paid by China to be against the whole thing.

India should ignore Communists and these anti-nationals.
But India should not ignore Hyde act. It should bargain on this act to keep its Sovereignity.
In near future if India tests any nuclear test and US sanctions on India, then all N-power plants will be
shut down. This will affect Indian ecomony miserably.
To sign present form of Hyde Act mean India has to send the idea of nuclear test to the cold storage forever,
which is clear from the speach of Condoliza Rice,
US State Secretary.
But MMSigh so far lied to Nation, he misled.

Communists should be banned in India, since their all acts are anti-national and anti-social.
Do MMSingh has guts to go against Communists. Rather he piss in his own pant and
lick Communists for the support.
Most notorious person in UPA is Pranab Mukherjee, he is pure walermallone (inside red, outside green).
Because of his CPM and communists dare to carry out all mess-up.
