Ok, change the name if you want to but try to keep it simple or at least make it sound less funny !!! Bengaluru.. LOL.. . As if its going to make it a better city.. Even chinese city names like Nanjing and Guangzhou are easier to pronounce !!!

At the most , I can say Bangaloro .. not Bengaa-lu-ru...
All those who are justifying the name change because Bombay named Mumbai and Madras named Chennai, listen up - Its still quite easy to pronounce both the new names... Try speaking out loud a few sentences loud having the word Bengaluru in them.. it will really slow you down while speaking.

Why double standards? why Kannadas don't stop learning/speaking English instead of changing city names?

Mr. Hemant Kumar. Your knowledge and ignorance shows how well cultured you are and your state.
India will become another Soviet. It will get divided into pieces. Maharastra politicians dont want north indians, Kanndigas dont want Tamils, telugus, and malayalis. Assam no comments. I think India will go back to some 700 years when it was ruled by different Kings. I think Rediff will be the major contributor for spreading this hatred among indians by bringing out articles like this. Every one should understand one thing, if you prefer only locals to live in a city or state, within 1 or 2 years that state or city, either it is mumbai or bangalore, will become a backward area. Then it will be too late to come up in the fast growing world socioeconomic scenario. Any how, by observing the messages posted by all for the past several months, I think India is a single country only on map, otherwise it is union of states.

Narendra,,,,,,, Have you ever been to Chennai...You are talking about so much abt mumbai n bangalore....just live in chennai for few months...u dont even write anything here..u will shut your gob there and will learn tamil in 2 months.... Development of any city is not dependent on anybody...Its a gross effort....ITs you guys need to come to bangalore to earn your food, its not that company got opened up since you are coming here....hope you mind this before wrtiing...We are not telling you guys to go out of bangalore..Follow the policy "While in Rome be a Roman"...Respect local language and culture..dont dominate them....This is the rule of life...Hope everybody against this policy understand and live.... If the same things happens to your state city u will come to know how u feel, till that time u dont realise

You are saying as if Chennai is open to everyone. Everybody knows how cosmopolitan the Chennai is. Just shut your mouth and settle in Chennai.
When tamils expects everyone to speak tamil when outsiders set their foot in TN why can't tamils do the same when they come down to bangalore?
Only gulburga and belgaum names have changes... rest even earlier we(kannadigas) used to pronounce the same way ... kaunsa badi baat hain vicky nanjappa ismain...
Every Indian language is the personification of Goddess Saraswathi. Every Indian is my friend, brother and sister. All languages are equal and all Indians are equal. If somebody wants to use Indian names instead of English, let us encourage them to do so, but let that not be a distraction or cause of anger and jealousy.

Well said! Name change was a good decision as 'Bengaluru' gives a local flavor and hence we localites are feeling happy for it. Who cares for westerners?

Come on! Be more respectful to our bangali and tribal brothers. This how we disrespect each other until war or some catastrophe unites us. Why not in peace time too?
