I read the same article in San Jose Mercury. Is there a common source? Why is this projected as if its rediff that did the research. Rediff should get into the habit of quoting sources, and not encourage plagiarism.

Idiot Rakesh, it is clearly mentioned 3 or more times in the article that this news had first been reported by Mercury News.

Cool I missed that, no need to rant. When I see "Rediff News Bureau | February 19, 2008 15:46 IST" on the article that to me is the source of the news. There is a protocol for everything.
Though there are considerable number of Indians in the US, I am highly skeptical whether such a high number are illegals. I hope India continues to develop at a lightning pace, as India's rapid development has brought about a welcome change- one that so many years of restrictive government policies could not do- it has started reversing the brain drain with some educated and skilled Indians returning to India leaving their jobs in US/Europe. If this economic growth of India continues undisturbed, emigration is bound to diminish. Focussing on economic groth is the need of the hour.

I know there are a significant number of Indians who take up jobs at petrol stations and etc etc professions that are not highly skilled per say and wouldnt have been acheived on a H1-B. I think this article is incomplete. The thesis is most Indians arrive in the US legally through H1, B-1 etc but continue their stay after the visa expires, thus making them illegal. Obviously its the greed of the American corps to blame here as much as the ones who stay back. This article is frankly bogus and furthers nothing but anti India agenda.

Mama I agree with you. Moreover if someone is illegal then there is no hell bigger than US. "live free or die" are not just words behind the cars.

The reason your message bothers me , is because if India has a weather change and makes it like the harsh weather of the US (with the number of cars increasing global warming will affect the subcontinent sooner rather than later), then youd hate your motherland. No country is shit and its all mother Earth. Hate the man not the earth that doesnt belong to you or me.

Rakesh, I think you may be owning a business (human trading) or a HR pro. You just want to oppose and has nothing else than the scare of mother earth.

yea the number seems high because it takes little time to go out of status if you dont get a job immediately after getting laid off. It takes a while to switch/get jobs in United States - so the people just risk it..but if things get dire they return..they're not ILLEGAL "illegal"!! They dont cross the border/or swim over the straits illegally!!!
they're not like the "illegal" immigrants of other countries who might kill a CBP officer trying to cross the country illegally!!!
Stupid Americans - always single out H1 Bs because they can't do anything about their southern neighbours who burn the american flag if told to go back or their huge latino population is a deterrent vote bank... Indians keep their mouth shut and hope the backlash will simply pass!!
