by godzila on Feb 18, 2008 12:16 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

so what if some1 has feelings for their native place.
if amitabh bachchan has love for his native place in up so what is wrong? even other ppl hv such feelings. sharad pawar has love for his hometown baramati. cm deshmukh has love for latur. narayan rane has love for his native kankavali in konkan. so whats wrong with it. just like rane wants kankavali in konkan region to be developed, amitabh has feelings abt allahabad in up.

Should having such feelings be a cause of hatred activities? One can have such feelings but the state of affairs is such that a person may be bad mouthed or even suffer for this. The article precisely points out that it is the minor differentiating factors which dominate politics and laws.

they say there is unity in diversity
by godzila on Feb 17, 2008 11:56 PM  Permalink

they say there is unity in diversity in india.

but in my opinion, there is diversity in unity in india.
ppl here changes their loyalties n unity on flimsical grounds.
they sometimes unite on the basis of communal lines, but when under same religion, they change the loyalty on the basis of their castes.
even after that they may get divided by regionalistic lines like in this case like locals and outsiders.
so same persona who was united and fought for certain religion is now divided among different regions and so on.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I OBSERVED IS THAT all the ppl change their loyalties when the matter comes to monetary aspect. they forget all their unity like that of religion, or that of caste, or of region, etc. but they get united for monetary gains.

so there is diversity in unity in india.

Majority of the Maharashtrians don't support MNS
by Aniruddha Phatak on Feb 17, 2008 10:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hello Mr. Tarun vijay,

I am slightly disappointed by your article. As a media person, you have a responsibility to present a balanced view on things. I don't think you have done that.

You must not conclude that all Maharashtrians support the stand taken by the MNS sainiks.

Most of us realise that all the non-Maharashtrians who have come to Maharashtra do a lot of good work wherever they are.

But maybe you chose to ignore the view of the majority because it suits you and provides you with an oppurtunity to point out the various divisions in the Indian society and particularly the Maharashtrian society.

Most Maharashtrians respect the non-Maharashtrians because of who they are. If you convert to a Maratha, or any of the other Maharashtrian castes, then there is a good chance that this respect will diminish a little.

We respect people who are willing to fight for their rights and identity.

Hope you will find the strength to do what is right rather than do what is easy.

Also, the Shiv Sena has in the past raised the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and tried to send a few back to their country. The Mumbai police oficers were attacked in West Bengal. The Mumbai police didn't get any support at that time.

you are right but the majority doesn't come out to vote either. Neither will they come out to stop Raj and his goons from the hatred mongering activities.

Hi Gautam,

Your point about the majority of people of Maharashtrian origin not voicing their opposition against MNS activists is valid.

But is this true only about people of Maharashtrian origin or is it generally applicable to people of Indian origin?

Do you think that people will come out against Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav; people from Bihar will do the same against Lalloo Yadav; .....?

The people of Maharashtrain origin fear MNS as much as the people of non-Maharashtrian origin. If the police can not protect the office of the big media channel, then the common person has no chance or the common person percieves that he / she stands no chance against the "Goondagardi" of MNS sainiks. So they probably keep quiet.

I can't say that this is true for every single one of the people. But it is true for majority of the people.

We oppose Hindi
by Terminator on Feb 17, 2008 09:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We oppose Hindi

There is no need to impose Hindi on non Hindi speakers as the national language.

Why do we need a national language in a democratic multi linguistic country?

If we need a national language then make English as the national language.

All languages like Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu are being sidelined and Hindi is being promoted. Soon our children will forget their mother tongues and will know only English and Hindi.

All non Hindi speakers should take a stand against Hindi and save their languages from extinction.

Bhayyas have made Hindi the national language after breeding like rabbits.

At this rate Mahrashtra will be without Marathi, Punjab will be without Punjabi, Bengal will be with out Bengali...

We need to take a stand now before it is too late.

Hey Terminator,

Maharashtra will definitely not be without Marathi and West Bengal will not be without Bengali. I also suspect that most other languages will also survive.

The same is also true about Hindi.

You must be a foreigner since you are willing to accept a European, language as the national language over an Indian one. Pathetic mate. Next you will be calling all our freedom fighters as "traitors" since they forced the British to grant us Independence.

Shame on you.

This is the my only response to you. I will not be wasting any more time on your posts.

English is not a foreign lanugage , IT is a GLOBAL language. So by learning English bahyyas will merge into the global economy. Instead they insist on sticking to Hindi and ask rest of the country learn Hindi.

For a Tamilian or kannadiga, English and Hindi are equally foreign. If English benefits, why care about hindi?

Can you please come out of your RAT hole and see the world?

y to close ur eyes. english is a foreign language. each n every country has its own original language. even ind has so many of our own languages. russia, japan, china, france, germany, etc. all the big brothers hv their own language. they dont run after english foolishly like v indians do.
y to give so much importance to foreign lang like eng. hindi is a binding force for india. nothing to reduce importance of other languages. all the other languages are important n their importance shudnt b ignored in each n every state. but hindi combines the whole of ind except to some states which r vehemently protesting against hindi on parochial lines.

Good article, main problem is population explosion
by Ram Sharma on Feb 17, 2008 08:07 PM  Permalink

it is a very good article. i was born in rajasthan, brought up, educated in bengal, worked initially in bengal, then in UP, Delhi and MP. anyone in the country is free to go and work anywhere except unfortunately to north east (as rightly mentioned in the article). marathis, marwaris, gujratis, punjabis, bengalis, keralites, oriya, tamilians etc r working in different states.

the main problem is population explosion in the country, which is eating up all our limited resources, extinting many animals, birds and plants and increasing global warming. Lalu is one of the biggest culprits having about 12 children.

like china we also must forcefully enforce the rule of one child per couple. However the central govt is silent in this regard.
