Baba Amte
by lakshmanan sowmianarayanan on Feb 09, 2008 01:02 PM  Permalink

It is unfortunate that the last link with the Gandhian ideals is snapped. He is the living example in a country where the so called intelleigentia want to to question Gandhi and his ideals even without knowing for what he stood for. Reading from few pages of history they think that they are super intellectuals. This man lived a life as per Gasndhian values and its is heartenein that in this world of Dr.Amit like his sons are following his foot steps and are serving the needy. Let us for a moment get out of this mundane materialistic world and really pay homage to the great soul.

You didn't hear of Baba Amte isn't surprising, cos the great man never been the center of controversies, neither he tried to interfere with governments on any issues. He avoided to go on hunger strikes for own causes. He also wasn't hungry for fame.

Baba Amte - "Amar rahe" 'Eeshwar aplya atmyas shanti devo hi tyache charani prarthana'.
Yes we should be happy & proud thatwe belong to such a great country where people like him have lived!!
Be positive,Practice some of his activities& leave Cynicism. For most of us here, I think he's much above 'Bharat-Ratna'. Publicise good thoughts & actions and ignore the negative side. This will help us and the country as whole. Hope most of the people will agree this....

Gandhi was great...

Agreed that baba Amte was great but comparison with the all time greatest mahatma gandhi is not justified. Mahatma gandhi was far greater a social server than baba amte...

There is not a question of comparison. I dont understand why you compare two great people. The article says 'Followers' then where comparison comes from. We should admire Amte for the kind of service for mankind he has done. Why common people like us only admire, compare or create unwanted argument there is need to follow them rather!

Very true Amol. I agree with you.
Its very easy to compare and criticise. But it takes grit to praise and pay homage to great soul. Ask them to shell out Rs.100 and they will think twice before donating (many would consider tax benefits!!!)

You didn't hear of Baba Amte isn't surprising, cos the great man never been the center of controversies, neither he tried to interfere with government (to hand Pak 55 Cr Rs.) on any issues. He avoided to go on hunger strikes (Partition) for own causes. He also wasn't hungry for fame. He never been responsible for killing of lacs of Indians ( partition).
It's not a time for comparison as long as he's greater than we all Gandhi's followers (???!!!) is a great thing in itself.

So that shows you did read good books on Baba Amte's life!!
If you want to promot Gandhian thinking, write in a blog or start a website! Here we only talk about Baba Amte. this is not a place to demean Baba's work by comparing with anybody else.

baba amte leagues ahead
by sreedhar reddy on Feb 09, 2008 12:37 PM  Permalink

baba amte towers above other social workers. he was a genuine person. this is shown by the fact that while he worked quietly, his followers like arundhati roy and medha patekar to some extent have thrived on publicity. baba amte's departure is a huge loss to our country, may his soul rest in peace
