Baba's Thought Contd.

11. When leprosy patients touched the soil, they transformed it into gold, but the politicians did that and made it into .
12. Carry your ideals before you like banners. It is not enough to put them on pedestals. Ideals which grip the masses prove to be a mighty force. Their force is stronger than the hope of earthy gain and they are more productive of real weath.
13. The war-cry will no longer be with Marx or Mao; the spirit of revenge cannot build a new world.
14. Only a revolution which leads to a higher sense of human dignity can lead to a higher and nobler way of life. Revolutions based on hatred and violence do not really change the situation. They merely transform the people who had been exploited inti a new class of exploiters but hatred and exploitation remain. Therefore, there is no substitute for Gandhi%u2019s way of rousing the impoverished masses to creative awareness.
15. To me, the common man%u2019s society is a maskless society. He does not carry that thick mask which the professional people, the upper classes, whereas they might look nice and beautiful. Very often they do not dare to say what they really think and feel.
16. Wherever God has pointed the way with his finger, he has also cleared the way with His mighty palm.
17. A person can live without fingers, but not without self-respect.

1. Work is my religion for work builds, I believe.
2. For me there is no better religion than the one that builds inside the human beings a sense of dignity and self-esteem.
3. In times of conflict, nation ought to intensify its contacts, discard failed approaches and try new ones.
4. Let us move beyond cosmetic changes into substantial new policies.
5. Charity destroys, work builds.
6. I believe, as a society we have to evolve, through experimentation, a system which combines the principles of individual freedom and common ownership. And that is what we have tried, basically with success, in all our projects, involving leprosy patients, tribal people and the so-called %u2018 disabled%u2019 persons.
7. Consider the honeybee. Its treasure is nectar, obtained even from the chilly plant. It is not at the cost of the flower. In fact, its act of extracting honey contributes to the progress of the flowers. You need not learn from Kahil Gobran, Marx or Gorbachev, not even from Gandhiji. Choose instead to learn your lesson from the honey bees as your silent partners; they will show you how to develop without destroying.
8. Those who do monumental work don%u2019t need monuments.
9. Joy is more infectious than leprosy.
10. Our governance is by a gerontocracy. This cataract of history can only be removed by youth. In this common man%u2019s century, only the common man can change the profile of this country.

by Jimmy Sharma on Feb 10, 2008 05:23 PM  Permalink

A Legend has left us... its indeed the time for national grief and sorrow. He was beyond any awards or recogntions.

Baba Amte was born in Rich family. But one day he sawa a leprosy patient dieing and was revelation he had in his life. He completely cut himself off from the comforts of life and dedicated his life to leprosy eradication and complete social service of the patients.

The famous British Writer Count Arthur is follower of Baba Amte and believes he was the sun who shined so bright that people like him automatically got attracted like moths towards his greatness...

Stupid person VS dont know the reality.
Narmada Andolan was started because Guj govt took land from people and did not compansate them for that. If people died in Guj because of no water then farmers died because guj govt took their land and made villages homeless, foodless and futureless.
baba amte was great. He was beyond politics, beyond cheap publicity and he was a clean charatcter. his service for the people is priceless.

i think writing this while seating in the comfort of AC is the most noble thing you can do... unlike dedicating all your life for leprosy eradication and complete social service. Baba Amte is the only contender for Bharat Ratna. And you on the other hand, is a toad in well who belives in his narrow thoughts.

Try to see beyond Narmada and you will see his greateness.

Vs,Shame on you for insulting Baba Amte. He was the type of greatness that should inspire us all. Very, very few leaders have come any where close to his class. He was a selfless personality who had the courage to take up the cause of people afflicted with leprosy and gave them a sense of dignity.Baba Amte and Medha Patkar were not fools to espouse the cause of tribals for Narbada Bachao Andolan. Many eminent personalities have endorsed their cause.Broaden your outlook and think in terms of the Nation and not in narrow parochial terms.
