The great ghaatii culture!
by mar gaya on May 04, 2008 11:20 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If anyone knows anything good about Marathi language and culture, please let
me know. About culture I only know of women with lungis parted in the middle
who jump and dance like anything on ghaateee channels. And about language, the
less we say the better it is. Suffice it to say that any language which has
Ikde/Tikde as words is in it is simply laughable.

What makes you that the language is laughable??? Let me tell you that the language has always bred Patriots. If it is just about the women the typical Nine yard sari then your are being too narrow minded. The language is rich. Its simply because we have never promoted it ourself. Do you know what Dnyaneshwari is?? What Geet Ramayan is??? What Warkari Community is??? Who were Dnyaneshwar (Gyaneshwar for you), Tukaram, Ramdas,Namdev??? Let me tell about some of them. Dnyaneshwar is the person who translated Geeta from Sanskrit into Marathi in the form of Dnyaneshwari. Tukaram is the one of the greatest exponents of Bhakti Movement. His Abhangs have found place in the Granth Sahib the sacred book of the Sikhs. He was also the person to go to Vaikunth alive. The only one to do so in the Medival India. This is just some part of it. And this i think is sufficient to make you realise the Greatness of MY LANGUAGE. Tell me parallels for these personalities in YOUR LANGUAGE.

Readers of this website... take an example of how Hindi-bhashi migrants disrespect Marathi language and culture.

Raj Thackeray is truly a great man for fighting against this kind of injustice done by arrogant Hindi-bhashis! This is the criminal attitude of migrants from UP/Bihar coming into Maharashtra.

RE:Ghatiis have always been a cowardly race!
by milind sabnis on May 04, 2008 11:17 AM  Permalink

It is a shameful history that UP/Bihari people have. They are such a feudalistic and casteist society that for the last 1000 years they have not had any self-rule viz. ruled by Mughals, Marathas and the British.

Raj Thackeray is right about AB
by milind sabnis on May 04, 2008 11:11 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I heard Raj Thackeray's speech and there is nothing wrong about what he said about AB.

Why should Raj Thackeray be targetted when everybody in this country is regional including Hindi-bhashis? Marathis should also learn to be loyal to their soil, just as the great AB is.

Also all our politicians support the state they come from, what's wrong if Raj Thackeray asks the ministers from Maharashtra at central level to do the same?

Also the Hindi-bhashis who migrate to Maharashtra and stay here for many years refuse to learn the language and assimilate with the local population. It is time that this is stopped.

Milind, Sorry to say that your thoughts are provoked by Raj speech. India as a single country have a federal system of ruling, however this does not mean that central does not have any right on the state govt. In case, educated people like you get threatened by other statesman ....don%u2019t you think you are harboring disrespect towards humanity in the present and for the coming generation? This will only create havoc in the country and other states will also tend to follow the same.
Raj game plan is just to voo the maharashtrians (Uneducated / unemployed youths) for his own purpose / political power, which was Bal Thackreys old game. In case, if he is so serious about the uneducated / unemployed youth he should attract more industries / organization to Maharashtra and regarding culture in democracy you cant force anyone to learn any culture / language.
Imagine if culture / language is made compulsory in middleast / gulf / Europe for Indian working there, do you think this will work out?.....And do u think the immigrants needs to learn that?
Hope this message will make difference in your thinking!

rajeev, i can only agree with your message if if applies to all Indians (north, east, south, states included). All indians keep their regional identities intact, then why should marathis not be allowed to do so?

Yes I agree with Milind why only Maharashtrians?? Why should it not apply to all in the so-called Democratic, secular country of ours??? No one questioned the KILLINGS of the Biharis in Assam why a hullabulloo when Raj made only a speech??? And do you agree with the UP leaders coming and speaking in Maharashtra and speaking against the locals??? Maharshtra is the only state which had to fight and fight hard for a united state. Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue is still pending. With the latter making serious inroads into the Marathi culture in the border areas.
