Raj Thackeray next step will be. One city person will not allow to work in other city.
New Bombay people can't work in Bombay. Puna and Nasik people should not allow to work in Bombay and Vice-versa.
Jai Maharashtra

RE:Who can learn Marathi?
by Milind on Feb 07, 2008 11:48 AM  Permalink
Ignorance is bliss...!perfect in your case... maree huve!

FYI!

Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Marathi people of what is considered western India. It is the official language of the state of Maharashtra. There are 90 million fluent speakers worldwide. Marathi is the 4th most spoken language in India and the 15th most spoken language in world. Along with Bengali, Marathi is the oldest of the regional literatures in Indo-Aryan languages, dating from about AD 1000.

Marathi is estimated to be over 1300 years old, and it is evolved from Sanskrit through Prakrit and Apabhramsha. Its grammar and syntax derive from Pali[citation needed] and Prakrit. In ancient times, Marathi was called Maharashtri, Marhatti, Mahratti etc.

Dakhini and Hyderabadi Urdu spoken in Hyderabad and some parts of Deccan are considerably influenced by Marathi. The grammar of Hyderabadi Urdu is adapted from Marathi. In fact, it is also called a creole between Marathi and Urdu with some Telugu words.

Kannada: especially the northern Karnataka Kannada has been heavily influenced by Marathi. E.g. the feature of aspiration, quite non-native to any Dravidian language, is found in northern Kannada. Also some kinship terms like vahini (brother's wife) are adapted from Marathi.

Bal Thackeray defends Amitabh Bachchan
by Hebbar R on Feb 07, 2008 11:33 AM  Permalink

In this whole issue, the symptom is being seen and the cause is long forgotten. The main causes for this trouble in Mumbai are :-
1) The division of India on linguistic basis.
2) None from the Political class, over the last 60 years, have given any indication nor encouraged the fact that India is one country. They have achieved political success for themselves by their "divide and rule" attitudes (probably as much as the British themselves did).

Even today, if one assess the issue, one can realise that the establishment does not treat India as one. There are barriers/Check posts between states. Movement of people and goods is such a hindrance between states. However economically justified these barriers may be, they are still a hindrance.

It is very difficult for a family to migrate from one state to another and language is the least of the problems.
