Awards should be timely
by mallaiah anchoori on Feb 05, 2008 09:38 PM  Permalink

Rarely we come across soldiers like Chunnilal volunteering to be part of military operations even after discharge from army.Hats off to his patriotism.Very often the gallantry awards are given very belatedly years after the heroic operatoin/s or posthumously after the death of the hero. Can we not evolve a system whereby the awards are bestowed on the heroes immediately after the triumphance?Such a gesture on the part of the authorities concerned goes a long way in boosting up the morale of other valiant army people and also the person concerned who resolves to part take in many more such operations.Official redtapism should be put an end to in such matters.Just as justice, encouragement delayed is encouragement denied. It is a pity that Chunilal should have got his due share of awards after twenty long years. The force of encouragement that could have been actuated by early and timely awards perhaps would have made him do many more such heroic actions.
