Point of View
by sriram ramamurthy on Feb 05, 2008 06:36 PM  Permalink

Please read my comment in this ongoing fracas and give me a reply. Iam born and brought up in Mumbai, aged 35, mothertongue is tamil. I have a friend who is a Maharashtrian, aged 27 years. Who is more of a Maharashtrian, my friend who was born Maharashtrian and spend 27 years in Mumbai or me, who was born a Tamilian and has pent 35 years in Mumbai. For people like me Mumbai is all we have, as far as a city of birth or native place is concerned. How do you differentiate as to who represents the Marathi Manoos in this case?

Jis din pure North Indians road par aa gaye, us dil sab marathiyon ko Pakistan jana padega. Do not show power in home. Bahar niklo tab pata chalega. North indians raj karte hain sab jagah. Raj abhi bachcha hai. North indian power se takraoge to kahin ke nahin rahoge.

jis din saare UP aur Bihar waale road par aa jayenge, tabhi unko pataa chalega ki duniya kitni aage badh gayi hai, Rapes, murders, in sab cheezon se waqt nikaalo aur dekho, Maharashtra kitna progress kiya hain, Education aur Political condition aapke states se Maharashtra mein kaafi achhi hain, security hain, stable life hain, UP Bihar ke leaders kyon progress nahi karte(karte hain, par khud ki) samjha karo, and from next time marathi sentiments ko disturb naa karo to achha hoga

Will i need passport to enter Maharashtra now being a non resident marathi???
by swapnil divekar on Feb 05, 2008 12:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I'm a Maharashtrian born and out of Maharashtra (MP to be precise)and our family is there for three generations, never in my life i have faced any kind of discrimination, hatred or violence in my life just coz I'm non-hindi speaking fellow. and guess what my place Indore is largely populated by Maharashtrians (Even the MP representing indore is Maharashtrian). there are few localities where only Marathis can buy or rent a house (hope that will make MNS feel good). Still we are never taken as 'outsiders' or anything like that? I hope MNS knows what hunger, family and words like that means because thats the reason behind this mass migration. MNS should rather be proud that Maharashtra (or mumbai)provides livelihood to many even from out of Maharashtra and this really makes it Mahaan-rashtra.
What does MNS want exactly sympathy, votes, attention or is it really a concern.
But the likes or Maya, Mulayam and Nitish Kumar are genuinely concerned they should create opportunites in their states to put a stop at this Exodus.
I hope that this hatred is not met with hatred and sanity prevails.

I do not agree with you for the difference in Cast. We are INDIAn's first.

People like you and me shall never make difference between Castes.

You guys often attack them.
Whether those guys will competate with others to get job or Fight you guys.
I belong to a most voilent community,
I know how my people's talent are wasted in anger and fighting and indiscipline.
So i will ask you guy to adopt yoga like training and concentrate on all marathi developements.

whats happening to India
by Arun on Feb 05, 2008 11:13 AM  Permalink

I always thought Mumbai is one of the close-knit communities in India where different religions, cultures and languages live together peacefully. I cant believe Indians have started quibbling like this! I saw the videos in CNN-IBN and my god, they were really gruesome. These goons running into the streets, and slapping and kicking north-Indians, just because they look like different. We know what Gujarat riots did to the country, we dont need another one. Why people get swayed away by these cheap political tricks? I dont know what police and government are doing - India has the largest police force in the world and I am sure Mumbai owns a big chunck. What were they doing when this filth is happening? How come such molesters ride freely in the city doing what they wanted to - burning taxis, assaulting by-standers, etc. Until people stop getting tricked by these useless politicians and religious leaders, whose only motivation is divisive politics, there isnt much going to improve.

Dear Mr.San abcd, Don't be a coward when you dare say such things in writing. Maharashtra is nothing without the mix of INDIANs .... If you are really so concerned .. go & help your farmers who die due to hunger & small loans. It is not that Maharashtra does not have money ..... but still poverty kills people here. Lastly, Mumbai / Maharashtra is a part of INDIA & pls do not think like JINNAH.... Jinnah also thought the same way .. & result is infront of you. DO YOU WANT TO BUILD A NEW PAKISTAN. GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR THINKING. JIO AUR JINE do yaar... Thand rakho dost ... dont get carried away by these politicians who will enjoy our fight bcoz that will also mint them money & power.

Cool political drama, isn't it? Now MNS is known at national level, and it may represent itself as true saviour of Maratha community. While other side, SP may emerge as North Indian saviours. So, no doubt, it benefited both opponents. But at the same time, it did nothing good for a common man. It won't be any surprise even if Mr. Thackrey says sorry for hurting statements of north indians now, as his goal is achieved. It's same thackrey who was talking about bringing together all communities, when he started his so-called 'sena'. So nothing is unexpected from him.
Nowadays it's common to read full hatred messages on rediff with saying like 'leave our place and go to your place'. What is your and my? This is my India, who are you to dictate where should I leave? What culture are you talking about to respect? First we should learn to respect Indian culture. People forget the meaning of metropolitan culture when discussing these things. When we talk about few cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad, it means that we are talking about the mixed culture. It means that in those cities all cultures can prevail together. And mind it, there is no 'my culture' and 'your culture' type of thing in these cities. And still if someone is doing this kind of cheap stuff, it implies that he/she is not eligible to stay in that place. He should stay in some village instead.
I read few messages regarding respecting American culture and comparing it to Mumbai. But bos

I read few messages regarding respecting American culture and comparing it to Mumbai. But boss, one need a visa to get there, so do we want a visa to get in Mumbai and cities like this? If we want to implement so in all states, it won't be one India.
Finally, I still firmly believe that these bunch of people (including hatred messagers on rediff) do not represent whole Mumbai, overall they are good and are having the ability to accomodate any culture. Mumbai is not made by itself, it's people who are staying there, and the people who are working for it, made Mumbai.
