We should note what Sashi here. "religious intolerance". with minorities being targetted in states like orissa, gujarat and other parts of india, India is never going to be on top for long time. All the efforts put by intellectuals in bringing this country up will put down by "religious intolerance".

bose babu kashmir panditon ke bare me aap ka kya khayal hai? Or u care damn for them coz they are not minorities?
I admire Mr Shashi a lot. also, please lend me the oppurtunity here.. almost all sticky issues in gaping at us indians can be traced to preventable issues of diversity. no doubt we have begun gaining ground on international stage.. but we still have a long way to gain international respect and crdibility .. as mr.Tharoor learnt to his and as well as our indians expense ( sec. general of UNO appointment). we need a new lot of learned, selfless leaders with clear vision, who for the starts are respected by the masses, and vice versa. other things will fall back in place sooner than imagined. The new found resurgence is an indication that the common man has the potential to be globally competitive ..but to gain respect from others, we have to get started from home.
Pkl. afternoon,4.10pm Sunday, 3rd Feb. 2008. This is a good piece from very articulate writer Mr Shashi Tharoor and civil servant of International Forum of UN who missed being taken as first Indian Secretary General at UNO,last yr. He rejoices in the fact that under changing cataclysmic transformations of Post industrial economy based ,now more on Knowledge -Economy and Brain -power and end of the age of Ideologies are now gone.We hope in the light of changes taking place in South Asuia also after Chinese pushing us from north we are able to reesist their thrusts , and in some way seek accommodation with Russia chastened after the end of of its Socialist Ideologies in early nineties. Of course only soft power is not enough , that we had Mr Tharoor across all the aeans of civilization , what India, today, as the late chancellor Prince Bismarck of Prussia used the expression needs is iron fist in the velvet glove...D. Excellent and proper understanding of the reality that we face.
While India's diversity is its biggest asset that propels us towards becoming a great power among nations, it is this diversity that is being exploited by religious intolerance and political opportunism to undermine our growth.
It therefore is, in reality, our greatest liability till the Paswans, Mayawatis and other narrow-minded, parocial politiconomists of India are voted in and allowed to run amok & rule the roost.
