Tharoor guy is a typical media guy. Using half truths and flattery to pander to the starved indian audience. Instead of doing all this natak, why doesnt he try to improve UP and Bihar first.

Mr. Shashi Tharoor is working for UN. Our great leaders like Mr. Lalloo Prasad Yadav, Mr. Ram Vilals Paswan, Ms. Mayawati, etc are more than enough for "improving" Bihar and UP !!!!!!! They are the champions of "sosial" empowerment !!!! And of course bloggers like 'USA' and 'SadaChiddi' They have great visions !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our politicians will always spoil the party. They have only their self interests and no consensus even on vital national issues. They make the people fight on created issues like caste, region for their selfish reasons. It does not matter thousands of lives are lost. The end result is they survive to fight many fights. Even God is afraid to recall them as they tend to live forever to create anarchy.
Indians can survive anywhere. They know they have to depend only on themselves. The fight by the communists in Kerala led to closure of all companies including govt owned. Keralites left to survive in hostile unwelcoming places to keep body and soul together. One Mittal left Kolkatta and saw opportunities everywhere else. It was a cake walk, as the humongous problems he faced in his younger days made him see opportunities anywhere. The multinationals embraced us, fuel efficient as Japanese cars, but more reliable than the German ones.
India has advantages over others including China with the our enterprising people, who have to try harder than others for basic necessities. The drag will always be our selfish politicians & ever present stumbling block, our bureaucracy. Once we overcome these two plagues, we will be on our way to become a country to be coveted by all.
I pray that the young should just seize the chance and retire the oldies from recycling contentious issues for their living. We cannot get ahead by looking at the past. We future is ahead.

Dear Shiva, the majority in our country do not understand (or pretend to not understand) these simple facts. They are content with blaming Brahmins and upper castes for some crime purported to have been committed by their ancestors.
The constitution of our Country provides equality to all, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion. It is for us to make the best use of opportunities. No politician or religious leader is going to help (like a Santa or a Lord Krishna helping his poor class-mate)
There is a false sense of pride in India. It is true Indian are seen in global places more than before. But some of the appointment of Indian CEOs to commerical enterprises are pure business gimmick When pepsi got into problem in India, suddenly the Indian -Indra Nuyi became its CEO When Vodafone was in crisis and when they want Indian market - they put a indian sarin there Citi bank CEO appointment is no different We can be really proud of India, only a dalit becomes the PM-because that is the only way to expiate the sins of centuries and tell to the world that India has truly arrived

sadaChiddi, it's because of idiots like you that India is a backward country and majority of the people love to think of themselves as backward.

Thanks. 'Intelligent' Indian!!. Now get out of here, don't flaunt your intelligence here, we can't bear it.
In the article,Mr.Shashi Tharoor has cited examples which are very silly. Can any one say me how the watching of Bollywood movies and TV soaps by war-ridden people of Syria and Afganistan is going to contribute our Economic growth in any significant manner?
If IITs are on par with MIT and let us assume that our IITs are better than any Technical Institutions of other countries....then why an IITian B.Tech is opting for higher degree(MS/PhD) abroad mostly? Why a PhD from an average US University(compared to MIT,such as Univ.of Maryland,Univ.of California) is always given preference for Faculty positions in IITs itself?

He's not talking about economic growth or hard nos., he's talking about soft power. For an example, French people don't like the growing influence of Hollywood in their country. What this means is that US soft power is increasing in France.

I always maintain that individuals / institutions who show performance IN SPITE OF adversities need to be appreciated more. India has lot of limitations - Diversity, Baggage of Casteism, Our Politicians etc. - but still IT IS SUCCEDING. Now, when I read comments here I feel that INDIA IS PREGORESSING IN SPITE OF SUCH INDIANS... Is it not a proud movement?

Exactly. For most of the people commenting here, elimination of muslims from India is the fastest way to bring it to 'glory'. Modi is the one and only Hero! That India is not ruled by such kind is a miracle.

You got married on the suhag raat, you said do you want to see my Laudaaaa, she smiled, shyly said yes. So you opened yr dhoti and said see my Laudaaaa. She immediately said this is not Laudaaaa - this is bulleeee(as its small) - if you want to know what is Laudaaaa and experience it - then you have to go and see my friend "Pangaliya".

Brahamin or no Brahmin, all Indians need to go together, otherwise we will perish. Casteism is not only the creation of brahmins or other casteists but due to tolerance of non upper castes. There is a great chunk of those people in India who support and are ready to work shoulder to shoulder with th so called non-uppercastes. All of them should take alead in building the country into a great power, where all enjoy genuinely equal rights. Progess in all the fields will only help to throw, the wrong people in power, out of power.

the cooruption is become so acceptable in india that everybody know it exists and discusses it a lot but do nothing. I think we need a leader who is able to bang all these corrupt politician and official. we need no infrastructure or facilities, these will follow automatically once corruption is eradicated.
