Kalaam and Salaam
by Dhurandhar Bhatwadekar on Aug 14, 2008 07:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I would have take this article and Kalaam more seriously, if Kalaam did not have the chance to be the president of India. He had the chance to change few things if not many during his 5 years of his presidency. If anyone had to list down 3 big achievements of Kalaam what would it be ? Kalaam did not have the time to take a decision on Mercy petition of 50 odd people. Majority of them he inherited from the earlier president. If he was really against Capital punishment, why did he reject the plea by Dhananjay from West Bengal ? What did he do cancel Capital punishment, if he was seriously against it ? If the president of India, can not bring about change, who can do it. He had the time to meet wife and son of Afzal (Should he be allowed to use the GURU in his name) Did he meet the family members of security guards who were killed by the terrorists in the Parliament act ? A lot of people like Kalaam becuase he was not a politician, but instead of improving Politicians, this man started behaving like a politician.

I think Sri Dhurandhar has echoed the feeling of many like me. Mr Kalam could have brought about changes if he really understood what is ailing us. He did as a captain, deliver missile systems to the country at certain cost. Like wise can any one say that he tried and brought about efficiency and answerability in any sphere of the government?

Dear Krishna Ji and Dhurandhar Ji,
Your point that Dr.Kalam, didnt do anything to improvise our country or change the politicians.
But please understand, there are only Thieves, Rascals, Killer Criminals and [Mullamaari | Mudichavukki, Kepmaari, Porambokes - These are the least dirty words available in Tamil to represent our politicians.], which one Mahathma like Dr.Kalam, can clean or rinse off. It should be a mass movement or as a whole a Nationwide Movement. We should be in a position to question our politicians and punish them.
But in today's scenario, we are all handfolded and handcuffed by these criminals.

Dr. Kalam brings out the areas that India needs to focus upon to develop as a nation.

And many people on this forum and around the country agree and respect the man.

Great!!!

But what next?

What did we do when we was not chosen for a second term?

If we like the man so much, why are we not electing individuals like him to run our governments?

We Indians are good at one thing and one thing only...That is LIP SERVICE a.k.a. BS.

If we truly respect this man, lets try to be like him.

No one individual will make our country great, but efforts by individuals (All Indians) will move this nation in the right direction.

Treating Dr.Kalam as an idol that is worshipped is what this nation does not need. We need to use Dr. Kalam as an example for ourselves our children if we have any desire to make this country great and make it prosperous.

Hope we all can make a difference and contribute.

What re Mr. X President! What good roads are you talking about? I think u talking about roads of Delhi. Please come to mumbai are you will know what development have we done. The Deshmukh government has been building one silly flyover near priyadarshani for the last four years and only now(DURING THE RAINS) have they come out of their sleeps to build that bridge!

Roads! BULL SHIT! It takes 2.5 hours to reach from Bhandup to Lower parel. Please dont make generalised statements like we have good infrastructure only because your village has seen some development.

Yes the roads are good where they are of concerete, but may I add those roads are NOT, I repeat "NOT", built for Indians they have been built for the MNC's.

What is there to be happy about.

How are we independent today ?

The British are gone, but we are still struggling after 61 years.

Personally for me, independence day is a day of embarassment. 61 years and we have the same corruption, same babu-mentality.

It is a day of frustration.

We should look at the positives as well, instead of looking at the negatives all the time like a pessimist.

Man with Mission Vision 2020: Former President A P J Abdul Kalam
by Loga on Aug 14, 2008 07:49 PM  Permalink

My take: Give India another 20 Years. Many ills will be taken care of. It is a very good time for US to partner with India. India will not, ever be like China, a country to fear. It will be a very strong country, and will remain friendly and open.
It should not surprise you that the highest rated engineering school in the world is IIT and the highest rated Management school is IIM. Both tougher to get into than MIT and Wharton. Medical schools like AIIMS and CMC Vellore are not household names yet in US but they are names to watch.
India has a lot going for it in the realm of higher education.
Give it time and not too much either, India will surprise you and very fast.

Though what kalam is saying has already been said by many people before, unfortunately for us ,no govt seems to be listening. But its good that the people are becoming more and more demanding of the govt compared to say 10 -15 yrs ago.
