The Govt must spend less on itself and more on the people with weak or no voice of their own.

8% - 9% growth in next 20 years will help India to reduce poverty.
by raj on Aug 14, 2008 08:09 PM  Permalink

8% - 9% growth in next 20 years will help India to reduce poverty.
With 8% - 9% growth in next 20 years poor will become 10% percent of total population only.
Still more than 40 % people lives under poverty.
As per government data it was 90% people lives under poverty in 1970.
80% in 1980.
70% in 1990
60% in 2000
And now 40% it means improvement is there in next 20 years it will become 10 to 20 percent only.

Though what kalam is saying has already been said by many people before, unfortunately for us ,no govt seems to be listening. But its good that the people are becoming more and more demanding of the govt compared to say 10 -15 yrs ago

Dr. Kalam brings out the areas that India needs to focus upon to develop as a nation.

And many people on this forum and around the country agree and respect the man.

Great!!!

But what next?

What did we do when we was not chosen for a second term?

If we like the man so much, why are we not electing individuals like him to run our governments?

We Indians are good at one thing and one thing only...That is LIP SERVICE a.k.a. BS.

If we truly respect this man, lets try to be like him.

No one individual will make our country great, but efforts by individuals (All Indians) will move this nation in the right direction.

Treating Dr.Kalam as an idol that is worshipped is what this nation does not need. We need to use Dr. Kalam as an example for ourselves our children if we have any desire to make this country great and make it prosperous.

Hope we all can make a difference and contribute.

It will be great if all muslims , not only in India, but also the world takes a.p.j abdul kalam as an example.

Then all this ISLAMIC TERRORISM BS will come to an end all over the world , and the world can then divert resources to other important issues like poverty, literacy , cancer , aids , global warming and stuff.

I am not refering to idol worship as people worshipping Lord Ram or any other Hindu Gods. it is their religiona nd they must do that.

I am refering to the idol worshipping of politicians and political parties.

Ah ok. Agree we shouldn't 'worship' personalities.

Dr. Kalam had his tenure of 5 years, it is not like he never got a chance to be president. IMO it is fair that he was not elected for the 2nd term; perhaps the notion of second term should probably be abolished for all big political posts including that of PM and CM. This so new ideas come up and people do not get complacent in there posts.

These are FACTS from Wikipedia, you can verify there needs to be a completely different approach to how we solve the problem, I think the need of the hour is more honesty, integrity, politeness and trust among every citizen of India.

I wish all of you a great independence day. See the following and see what you can do it, change doesnt start from the primeminister or the MPs, it should start from us, the people of India. Let us bring more honesty, politeness, trust, accountability in the system by first changing ourselves

What u said is right and we should work even harder towards improving it. But let us realise that in 1947 we were even worse and we have improved a lot. We just need to keep the good work going but much faster.
