No doubt we made progress but we have long way to go. 600 to 700 million of people have yet to taste the fruit of true freedom. But I agree what ever corrupt system we have, we still manage to atleast crawl forward. When I see Pakistan, Srilanka, Nepal, almost whole Africa, Mideastern country, east European country, I feel good about India.
To most of blogger on this forum, India gave them education, that why they are sitting in west and cursing our country.

PS - Before you start shouting "Hey it is the two individuals and their lives", remember that India is a democracy and I have every right to comment on the lives of public personalities. Yesterday's aerial proof by army have shown that there was no economic blockade of srinagar but separatists created psychological blockade in the minds of kashmiri people. Those people who think Kashmir will get independence are day dreaming. I myself being kashmir hindu know the head and tail of the kashmir dispute. Long before the spread of Islam, Kashmir used to be the main centre of Shavism. It was Aurangzeb who converted Hindus to Muslims. In 1990, remaining hindu population was murdered by converted muslims( even muslim neighbours participated in killing their hindu neighbours) and forced to leave their homes. It didn't took long for Kashmiri hindus to settle again. You will find Kashmiri Hindus( 4 lakh people) all over world holding highest ranks in different global giant corporations. Even the children of migrants who are living in refugee camps have settled in different parts of globe and are working in reputed corporations. Forcing Kashmiri Hindus out of valley was the biggest mistake done by Kasmiri Muslims as they were the backbone of education system, goverment offices (anything which demands educated people). Kashmiri Muslims fell into the trap which they had dug for Kashmiri Hindus. Their people blow the bombs, their people get killed. Kashmiri MUslims are now bleeding for the last 2 decades because of the sins they have committed and will continue to bleed until and unless they are going to repent for their sins. of Kashmiri Hindus(children of the great rishis and munis) was scattered on its soil. Try how much hard Kashmiri Muslims will try for independence but in return they will get bullets and death because "Kashmir is now a cursed land".
On 61st year of independence and having lived in this nation for the last 40 years i think i owe it to its leaders Corrupt , criminals , castiest , funadamental what ever we may call them they have been able to move this nation a long way. Wilson churchill strongly believed a country so divided on caste and relegious lines can not stand the test of time and existance. Indians like vivekandana and tagore were also sceptic. Today we stand at the helm of global reputation as one of the only 5 counties in the world which grew as emerging Nations of the few 100 countries that were set free after the second world war. A nation whcih did not have a own stell plant in 1947 today have some of the biggest steel gaints A nation which did not know how to make a Car toaday have guuts to aquire some ikon brands A nation which transported most of its goods in bullokcards as early as 1940's today ... I agree to your comment about people sitting in the western world and cursing India.. I feel bad when they feel proud about themselves that they could escape the chaos.. and how India cannot come out of the 3rd world country title.. It's about time we accept that each and everybody has to contribute whatever little they can to improve things..

Mohammed Imran, I agree with your post. Given our rocky history, Indians and India are doing okay. Despite the "million mutinies" that take place in different parts of the country, there is progress. Millions and millions of families are living normal lives. Their children enjoy school, they have religious and other celebrations, go to office, run businesses. On the whole, are happy.
I cannot say, that Indians living in the U.K., or U.S.A. or Canada are "happier". They have their own little problems. May be electricity black outs are not one of them. But there may be other issues.
Whatever our differences, in this sub-continental sized country, our DESTINIES are INTER-LOCKED.

Excellent comment Mr. Mohd. Imran. May be our leaders are corrupt but still far better than our neighbouring countries. Democracy is still alive in our country. We have still hope that one day we will become a superpower.
