Amazing thing is
by Dhruba Chakravarti on Aug 08, 2008 02:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The amazing thing is Manmohan Singh, Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee continue to lie to the country about this. And, nobody asks them for an explanation.

Why do you think the US officials want to study this more carefully and take more time for this... and not vote in haste? Because domestic laws are domestic... Are you really senile enough to believe that some stupid law in the US is going to supersede an international agreement. Well, if you do, in that case, you can create a law in India and say the US cannot use any nuclear energy. You think that will work? Why would the US honour an Indian law and why should India honour a US law? Are you really that clever to not understand this?

This is a diplomatic dance that you got to tune to your music and not the other way around. I am not even sure, you will "get" what I am saying. The US is opening its doors to us... and though there is reason to be suspicious of their intentions, what is on paper cannot be refuted.

This IS good. If educated people like you cant see that, god save India.

US law affects US stance vis a vis India. Thus the Hyde act can restrict US from supplying nuclear fuel to India. In fact, it may even be used by congress to push US foreign policy in the direction of isolating India interms of nuclear fuel access.

Whats important is the stance taken by other suppliers with a more independent foreign policy. E.g. France, Russia, etc. If they are locked into lucrative supply and nuclear power plant construction projects, they might be inclined to continue providing fuel even if India tests a weapon.

So I don't completely agree with your simplistic view of things.

I agree with you on US stance in case of nuclear tests done by India.

Berman's fear is that other countries who do not have such a rule might sell more equipment to India. I think this is a positive in favor of India.

slap in the face for indian congress which told so far that international law will supersede US law.

These people couldnt insert a single line saying that this deal is not tied to US law, which china was able to do in their deal with the US. So India couldnt negotiate something which the chinese got without a problem.

Manmohan things that he is doing a great thing by lying to the country

ha ha ha india made slaves again by the west. must be part of sonia gandhis plan.

You want to believe what you want and have not real understanding of what is happening.
Don't you think US folks from opposition party(Berman is a democrat whereas Bush is Republican) would like to delay this deal?

Also, this opposition by some US politicians is clearly proving that whatever MMS had said was correct. There is no tie-up mentioned between NSG waiver and US law!

Here is something more Berman had to say:
"
Meanwhile other countries might rush in to take advantage of a more lenient NSG waiver and do business with India on their own terms," Berman warned.

"This would give other countries an unacceptable head-start in securing commercial nuclear contracts with the Indian Government, thus placing U.S. firms at a competitive disadvantage," Berman wrote to Rice.

You guys want to believe everything a white man will say and take it for granted. Try trusting an Indian for a change. You will see wonders in our country.

CatchTwentyThree :-)

You are really naive to think India can make domestic laws that can prevail... :-)

You will no doubt believe what a Congress man says and take it for granted... :-) And ignore everything else... for instance the clear cut proclamation from US (read the story above if you don't believe me) that THEIR DOMESTIC LAWS WILL PREVAIL...

:-) So long...Adieu

:) well what we gain is the technology access and that is all the deal is about. I think india is looking for a good mix of fuels & technologies here. Thorium although in abundance we r yet to have the techgly to harness energy out of it. mind you no one has the technology yet as they don't have much thorium :).
One argument was we may be fuel(other than thorium) dependent on NSG. Fair enuff..

Come out of this perspective....

N-deal is just a pawn in the bigger strategic game. Mark my words.
It is now upto India, how it plays its cards. Sardar g started off well. But it is always the end game which matters. Cards to chess :), well says the game changes. Wakeup!! it is a game of games(GOGs - registered :)). The question is do we have the stomach or enuff players with stomach for GOGS. sardarg may one day go for the best of GOGs, curious how looks in GOG(L)s
